1. Any ideas on the standard/quality I should be looking at? SM58? Which stand works well? I cant stand rubbish mic stands!!!
2. I think, from my experience, that bands usually have a few members with delusions of grandeur. My ex band is the same. The guitarist THINKS they are going to make it big in the underground punk/hardcore scene. Note I said 'underground' which basically means if they did, they would be flavour of the month for a while, then the next band on soundcloud would take the helm. The guitarist who I speak of has been a close friend of mine for 15 years or more, and we seriously fell out over it. I am mature enough to know you HAVE to work, and work comes first unless you are a professional band getting PAID. If not, then its a fun hobby, and as long as you dont ruin your career, the band can take up as much time as you want it to. For me, I can practice once a month with a band, and a few times at home a week to my ipod, and be happy to gig. Original bands that practice every week and never gig are just wasting time IME, and hardly ever make it. That was quite a rant, I do apologise. Stand your ground. I did, and im glad I did, because months down the line, Ive watched them lose members one by one. They have been going for 6 years, and their early days were always the best. Now? I think its time for them all to move on, and try something new and refreshing.
3. I think around £850 would be 'acceptable', but if its really clean, maybe more! Don't let anyone take it for any less. I know the market isnt great, but you do tend to get the whole: 'its worth £700 tops' with this line of basses. A year ago? Maybe so, but not now the minimum price is around £1040 for a standard colour non-sunburst. The prices are very high on these now for a new one, so I would be tempted to try and keep it
4. I wonder. Its weird how they have admitted to the min load issue, but not officially said 'go and use any 3 8 ohm cabinets, or a 4 and 8.' Could lead to quite an interesting stack.
5. The bottom table, min load.
6.
Bugger! I Hope these haven't gone. I blew a speaker on one of my DB212's
WHATTTT? How did you do that dude?!
7. See the table at the bottom, btw.
8. Re: the minimum ohms, see this new document produced by TC. Apparently there is more information coming on the whole 'wattage' specs. http://www.tcelectronic.com/media/tc-electronic-power-rating-and-active-power-management.pdf
9. Cosmetic differences, I think pre-post EQ switch changes, and DI level. I'd personally want the latest LM.
10. Well, a recent budgeting exercise showed that whilst I can afford it, I would be straining over the next few months, and it is Xmas after all. So, for now, ill put it on the back burner. I used to own two before, and one always came out on top, and I didnt miss the old one when it was gone. I told myself then that two was daft...but temptation towards basses is ongoing! I think it might be better for me to invest in something totally totally different, but perhaps mid 2012. We shall see!
11. Im going to give it some thought. Ive been offered one at a very very good price, Oly White/Tort/Rosewood, so I may pull the trigger.
12. Great sound, look kinda cool, BUT uncomfortable, (IMO). I really wanted to like it, but couldnt get on with the whole shape/neck.
13. I have always been a Ray or P player, although I do like Jazz basses from time to time. I have my Rays (incl other EBMMs) covered. (although I still want a 2EQ at some point). I have a very nice American Standard P and J. For some reason, Im still weighing up buying another American Standard P. I have no idea why. I know one would stay mint, and the other would get more use, but I don't see why I need another?! It would be exactly the same apart from the colour, even the same fretboard. Ok, one could be strung with flats, one with rounds. Is there any point? What you have to realise that as much as I play, I also collect as well, I think if they hadnt shot up in price, I would have already bought one, but to buy one now, you are looking at £1000 or just under if you haggle for a non-3TS colour. Damn GAS.
14. Soundslive have the best deals on these I think, but anywhere will match the lowest price. Soundslive sometimes have 10%-20% off coupons/codes if you sign upto there email mailouts
15. I think once you are talking £1000+, id have to have a quality returns policy (which all stores should be operating anyway) which allows a full refund. If that isnt an option, I wouldnt bother. I see why people go and test, I used to do it in Newcastle all the time, but now I dont live near any good bass stores, EVERYTHING has to be by the internet. Once you factor in the cost of travel, a whole weekend out (most the time Id have to stay with the missus in a hotel if its 3-4 hours drive) you may as well try the 7 days returns policy. Id love to A/B the Mayones with the Sandberg. The main attraction to the Mayones is the killer blocks, great old Fender colours, and the J+J in the right place, whereas the M+J on the Sandbergs dont seem to be in the right positions. Apparently the Mayones have Glock pre-amps, which also sells it for me.
16. Wow, great news! Take a Big Al, it can do the lot! Good idea, all three.
17. Bump for the topic!
18. See, I'm tempted by one of those Mayones as well. Not sure which colour I'd go for.
19. I thought that JT...what a looker! Id have to be certain on those Delano's though. Beautiful design.
20. The earlier models (not sure what years) are heavier. The vinyl covering is just a cosmetic change I think.
21. Damn knew I'd miss it! I knew it would go fast!
22. The Mayones Jabba basses are nice, but i dont like their other designs. The Sandberg bread and butter type Fender basses are no doubt their best sellers. Now an American Standard Fender is £1000-1100 +, these Sandbergs on the German websites seem very good value. Why we pay so much in the UK for any equipment from Europe is beyond me. My suspicions are, we are used to it, so the dealers carry on!
23. The attraction to Sandbergs is the modern take on classic shapes and tones. Similar, I guess, to why I like the Mayones Jabba Jazz basses. Problem is, im fussy with Jazz pickups. Call me old fashioned, but normal USA Fender Jazz pups are hard to beat. I love the aethestics of the Delano pups, but id have to spend time with the bass for a few hours to determine if I really get on with their pups.
