Hi all Received a new Fender American Standard P bass as had some credit with the store. Just caught the cash-back offer so it was cheaper than the 'normal prices' (which have hit an all time high...silly high prices compared to 2 years ago). The bass was brand new...sealed from Fender. No one had touched it. I have another P bass upstairs. It was £200 cheaper than this one. Beautiful bass...at the same time my 2011 USA Jazz is also excellent. This new P bass ain't so great. Looks and feels a bit bodged. Fit and finish aren't as good as my other two...by far. Fender have also changed the stock strings and they also ain't so great. How long do I play the lottery for and when do I give up?! Shall I try another? Should I give up and get a Bongo? Store is being patient, I may add. No problems there. P bass being picked up tomorrow...now I need to decide what to do.

I'd take the Fodera and sell it.

Gallien Krueger MB 200 - can't believe how good it sounds

Sounds like a returned item or display? I'm sure Thomann will jsut ship another -
I had two, sold both locally to new players. Perfect intro bass, and quite well made. Awful frets though...I told them to use nickels or flats as the stock strings ate away at the frets incredibly incredibly fast! I'd like another still...but guessing that's it now. Can't believe its been a year. I ordered one when I moved home (temporarily) and moving was a HUGE mistake. Can't wait to move back to Newcastle.

Weird. I also think Markbass are off the pulse when it comes to the latest market. The new amp they have isn't really anything new and they are discontinuing the F1/F500!
-
Well, it seems Ibanez have the new amp/combo listed next to the old one: http://www.ibanez.com/Electronics/Series-Promethean_Head http://www.ibanez.com/Electronics/Series-Promethean_Combos Looks like perhaps they are an additional to the line...and they are cheaper: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/ibanez-promethean-p3115/56949 http://www.gak.co.uk/en/ibanez-promethean-p300h/56951 I don't understand it if they discontinue the existing line though.
Dear Musicman20, Thanks for the warm welcome. Well, of course that depends on your personal attitude. We believe that there are many people out there who want to ensure that their instrument is manufactured sustainably and who are willing to pay for this certainty. On the other hand we ourselves are convinced that environment protection is worth a little extra effort and so Warwick will proceed. Last but not least this approach even makes sences economically if you think a few years further. Beeing independant in terms of energy can not be a mistake in the long run, just like the protection of the world's forests.
Hi Dirk Great to see you are helping Linus...always good to have manufacturers on here helping out. I understand exactly where you are coming from regarding sustainability/environment. My own personal view is that the current economic situation is affecting so many people on a daily basis that the majority can't really justify extra cost for something that we ultimately cannot afford to worry about at the moment, (unfortunately).
I'll take you up on that and please don't think I've demonized I realise some people don't get my humour so I'm sorry if offence is taken.
I want a video diary of Wayne playing the Dingwalls! There will be that point where he either loves it or doesn't get on with it. I'm betting he might be quite taken with it, but not 100%.... Looking forward to this

I was thinking that if I ever get to gigging a lot again, (no idea what 2012 brings at the moment) ill be getting the SBMM Sub...Im guessing they are in the Squier CV price range.

Think the recessed logo is to the left, on the cab that's almost out of shot. -
I don't think Wayne means a fad that players are going through...I think he means just in general the whole fanned fret idea might/might not be as popular in 5-10 years. Who knows, it could really take off!

Just having a browse this time! Always liked their Jazz basses, but noticed they seem to misalign the bridges quite a lot. The e is almost off the board! Like you say, probably doesnt happen on a Squier CVP!

Wow, the quality of the combo fit and finish looks much higher! Check this picture, (flush corners, recessed handle, etc!). http://bassgearmag.c...012Day1_167.jpg http://www.bassgearmag.com/uploads/gallery/resized_NAMM2012Day1_166.jpg It even appears to have GK a GK logo recessed into the wood. Very similar to a Berg AE finish. -
Jens Ritter has a word with chinese copy guy....
Does that mean Jens was flattering the German press? That was very good, I'm not a fan of a lot of his stuff but he dares to be different, I respect that.
Haha...well, its kinda cool that anyone would copy something you do/make/etc (it obviously means its quite good!), but obviously this is different. -

He played that totally cool. Imitation is the best form of flattery, BUT this is a business. -
Nice, pricey though!

Mike Dirnt is one of my earliest bass playing heroes I can remember. This is back when Green Day hit the big time with 'Dookie'. He is a DAMN good player. Very quick with a plec, melodic, and tight!

Hi all I've always liked the design and feel of Lakland basses, and of course the tone is pretty spot on, but this poor string/neck/pup alignment seems very common with their basses. It's put me off buying one for two years, as every time I like one, I see something similar to this: http://www.guitargui...=12011216450649 Shame...I thought there QC was meant to improve with the takeover. It might not affect the tone that greatly, but that E string is very very close to the board, and visually it looks wrong.

Its not so much not 'liking' the extra scale, I think its just because Im quite comfy on a 34". I can see the arguments for and against extra scale, especially on the Dingwalls, but I tend to like the B to be quite tight and percussive and of a similar feel to the rest of the strings. I could try one and eat my own words, but alas, money and time is a barrier.
-
Well, it could well tick a few boxes, but I know deep down after 15 years of loving Fender and Musicman that they would never go anywhere. Anything else would have to be an addition, and to be honest the next bass won't be for quite some time.
