1. Greetings from a student in Lincoln about to begin my 3rd year of a film course. Very fun city, a nice blend of student madness, ye olde worlde heritage and a fairly happening underground music scene. Don't suppose you've heard of the Jolly Brewer pub which hosts a brilliant open mic night?

3. Sorry that I can't directly help, but i'll certainly agree that jamming with people is definitely a great idea. Do you have any guitarist friends that are any good? I'm only a relative newbie to bass as well, although i've done drumming for years. My drumming came on loads as soon as I started playing with people (was gigging before the end of my first year of playing) and one of my best mates is a guitarist who is very accomodating when it comes to helping me lay down basslines to his guitar lines.
4. Selling a few more bits and bobs off to raise GAS money. First up is a lexicon mpx100 multieffects unit. Has some VERY nice chorus and delays useful for bass guitar, as well as being a brilliant reverb unit for vocals, guitars or drum busses if recording. Is a mono or stereo switchable unit, has an optical out (my primary reason of using it was to give me an extra 2 channels on my recording setup using SPDIF in, its bypass is footswitchable (no footswitch included) and has full midi in/out/thru channels so you can control the whole thing with a controller or footboard. Wanting £60 for it posted. I don't have the original box but it would be packed very carefully. Citronic 31 band graphic EQ. Very simple single channel (mono) graphic eq, can cut boost +12 to -12. Has a bypass mode but is unfortunately not footswitchable. I used it in a rack of bass equipment to fine tune a tone - forget your built in 7 or 12 band eq, this lets you dial in any conceivable setting over 31 bands! Also used it when tracking vocals in recording sessions, fine tune a voice and track it sounding perfectly EQ'd. After £50 for it posted. I'll get pics up asap. Ben.
5. Might well be useful... http://forum.orangeamps.com/topic.asp?TOPI...peaker,external In short - the amp kicks out 35w at 4ohms. The built in speaker is 4ohm. The unknown is if it automatically breaks the link to the internal speaker. If it doesnt, and you hook up a 4ohm extension cab to it, the amp will see 2ohms and become quite unhappy. What are you trying to achieve by driving an extension cab? As really 35w of bass really isn't going to be too loud whatever speaker you use is it?

9. Drumming at gigs I made a point of always tying my pink fluffy hippo mascot on top of the kick drum - even if I was using someone elses kit. When I start gigging my new band where I play bass i'll be having my soft toy tortoise on top of my stack. Its just something i've always done with both instruments since the beginning...
10. Is there a decent website that explains where the notes are for standard tuning on a 4 string? Would be very handy as a reference, and saves me from having to buy a basic bass book...
11. Its totally different with it being an all valve head anyway. For example, a 15w Orange Tiny Terror guitar amp totally screams through a 4x10 and is fine for live on stage stuff. A 15w solid state guitar amp however would only be useful for quiet bedroom practise. What impedance is the 200w ashdown cab you're using? and at what impedance does the head kick out 50 valve watts at? Something like a 300-400w cab would be my guess - any chance you can take the head into a well stocked bass shop and try some cabs?
12. SS73 - that setup actually sounds pretty good on my AH200 gp7 head. Cheers!
13. Looking to get myself my first effects setup. Figured i'd try out the Zoom unit seeing everyone is raving about them so much. Having looked into it theres a few different versions, a £100 odd one, the u, and a £40 odd one, just the plain b2.1. Whats the real world difference? I don't need a USB interface or a volume pedal - just want to experiment with a bit of amp modelling tones, overdrive, compression, delay and of course have a tuner. Is there any reason to go for the more expensive one or will the cheapy do all of those things at the same kind of quality? Cheers! (Edit - ok, im even more confused, theres the b1 which is £40, the b2 which is £60 and the b2.1u whch is £100 odd - which ones would do me proud?)
14. I'm after just £60 for this now including postage within the UK. Also interested in trades for any pedals - bass overdrive/distortion or delay, maybe one of those Zoom multieffects bass. Cheers, Ben.
15. I would also very much like to hear a recording of the ODB3 on its own with a few different settings - been considering one for a while but have had no chance to get into a shop to try it out!
16. Bear in mind that there's very little point booking out a practise room and fiddling with the sound on your own. As soon as you get in a full band situation there'll be drums and guitars competing with the frequency spectrum and that previously immense tone will get muddied up with sounds from the other instruments. If you want a cutting yet deep bass tone to play with your band, you need to develop that while playing with your band.
17. You know those cool circle ones with a brand name you see in music shops? My local does the Fender logo'd circle top ones for £30 I think - ask your local shop about it!

19. Aw man, that would be such a handy bass for me to get - the perfect cheap and classy looking introduction to 5 string! I'll see what I can do... Me wants.
20. I would laugh quite hard if I found out the shop was using dodgy cables, or plugging things in at the wrong impedance. Can't imagine why a head would just randomly blow unless it got damaged in transit or something :s

25. Theres one of those on ebay at the moment. Looks very oldschool! Not sure I quite understand it... is the 15 at the bottom facing out the back of the cab?
