I too have been tempted to get one of these for my covers band. The sounds are very convincing. I play a Warwick Thumb bolt-on and the Thumb sound on this bass brought a big smile to my face. The bass itself doesn't feel too great to play. Just like any other Far East knock off. Sounds like a bass £1000+, feels like a £200- bass in your hands.

I came about this close -> <- to replacing my rig with an LD300. I've got the Studio as a practice amp and love it to bits. I don't tend to use anything but the 'Rock' SVT patch, but I also really like the 'Clean' Eden sound they've put in there. I didn't replace my rig in the end because I really like the sound of my Hartke aluminium speakers and I can't replicate that with this combo. Line 6 are doing a promo this month with Line 6 gear too. I've posted the details and Luke has kindly made it a sticky at the top of this forum.

Very nice bass already, and it hasn't even got strings! Can't wait to hear/see the finished product.

Hartke amps are ridiculously loud for what they rate the Wattage as. My 350 Watt HA3500 never goes above 3 out of 10 as it would cause discomfort for people in the adjoining buildings. I'd recommend giving them a try.
You dont see many BO Thumbs like that! They certainly didn't skimp on the wood for that one. You could be forgiven for thinking that it was a CS model. Its extremely nice
Thankyou very much. I'm quite proud of it.
The Euphonic Audio iAmp Micro 300 is under 3lbs, has two channels and can be picked up for $600 in the US. Someone on Basschat ordered one from the UK, but I can't remember who it was.
Does it also do the fancy voltage switching thing? Or will it need to be modified to work in the UK?

That is lovely. Looks like it's got a really high gloss finish to it (similar to Sei's usual finish). Gorgeous.
From previous ones I had seen, I figured they skimped on wood grain choice with the thumb bolt-on. But that one looks lovely.
It's funny you should mention wood grain. Has anyone else noticed that Warwick sometimes swap the grain of the wood 90 degrees for some instruments? My Thumb BO has a completely different grain to the pictured 'stock' Thumb BO on the website because the wood has been turned through 90 degrees (the top and bottom edges of my bass match the front detail on a normal bass). This wasn't a Custom Shop option as i've owned my bass from new. I've also seen some Infinity SNs with the wenge fingerboard cut at 90 degrees so you get all those lovely tiger stripes down it. Mine is cut so that all of the gaps in the grain are visible. Anyone? Just me? Here's the front of my bass. Still Ovangkol like any other Thumb BO:

I've had a look at this amp before and on paper it sounds very cool. The Bass Gallery have a price for it at £749 though! The value for money doesn't sound good compared to the Little Mark 250, which you can get from the Bass Centre for £299 in the sale. The switching voltage does sound very tasty if you happen to travel internationally.
Ive got GAS for a BO5 thumb! I just love the ovangkol and there supposed to sound killer. To have one bubinga and one ovangkol would be sweet!
A buddy of mine here in Norwich bought a second-hand Thumb 5 NT custom which is all Ovangkol and it sounds great. I wouldn't sell my BO 4 for the world.

What a great range of sounds you've got there. Of course i'm going to be attracted to the Thumb I went bolt-on but the through neck is just so special.

I use a Hartke 2x12 and get oodles of low end response. The cab itself is quite a bit larger than your average 2x10 though which I think is the main contributing factor. If you like the response of a 10" cone and the low-end of a 4x10 sized cabinet, how about looking at a 2x10 with a slightly larger cabinet or some kind of shelf porting to improve the bass response? E.g.

Tascam Bass Trainer. Click here for spec Great piece of kit for practicing with headphones. My basses sound great through it. I'd just like to point out that I am in no way affiliated with Line 6. I'm on their mailing list as I own a registered Lowdown 110 Studio amp which I think is actually the best practice amp I've seen or heard. Just thought I'd share the wealth and let you all know about a special offer Line 6 UK are running at the moment when you buy any of the bigger Lowdown combos (not the 110 Studio, as you can't attach a floor controller). I'm usually on the right hand side of the stage as the crowd see the band. I try and put my amp as far into a corner as possible as this seems to do wonders for the projection. I've also recently found that I hate the sound coming out of my amp if I can't feel it through the floor in some way. I played a gig where the stage was so small it was basically a drum riser but there was just enough room to fit the amps on there with him and I stood in front of it. Because I was on different flooring I couldn't feel the amp through my feet and it all sounded wrong. Strange that.

A very respectable setup you've got there. Just goes to show that you don't have to pay through the nose to get a pro-quality rig, just keep your eyes on the freeads
-
Wow! That's a super-rare Warwick Streamer you've got there. A wenge neck and some great flame maple too. I'm sure it sounds lovely.
-
Yay! Another Thumb BO 4 user. I do love mine to bits.
-
The Thumb and Status caught my eye the most from your crop there, but they are all great.
-
I own a bolt-on and that is definitely one of them. The body should be bubinga (though a buddy of mine has a custom 5 string thru-neck in Ovangkol), the fretboard should be ebony, the body would be a lot smaller, and it would have 26 frets and 3 tone nobs instead of 2.

Warwick have released a Just-A-Nut 3 to replace the flimsy Just-A-Nut 2. It's a drop-in replacement and I've done it for my own Thumb BO. You can do it yourself with just a screwdriver and a couple of very small spots of superglue. I wouldn't recommend trying to swap a Just-A-Nut 2 for a Just-A-Nut 1 (brass) as the brass ones are slightly thicker and you have to remove the truss rod cover, fill the screw holes, and then reposition it after you've put the new nut on. Chore.

I have played through the 4x10 VX combo and I thought it sounded pretty good. Considering the cost of the paper cone VX cabs they do a perfectly good job. They pale into nothing compared to the XL and PRO series aluminium cones though. The Transporter range is the worst of the bunch.

Yowza. I think Gamble's SWR 6x10 sounds awesome. The Ampeg I tried sounded woolly and crap. Can't wait to hear your new cab Dood.
-
I'm glad you've gone with Hartke. As far as weight of the cabs go, I can carry my cab over short distances with one hand and I'm about average build. I've spent £10 kitting it out with some heavy duty wheels from Machine Mart which makes things a lot easier. In hind-sight I'd rather have got a trolley or sack-barrow which I could re-use on other cabs and help my gu*tarists with.

I have a HA3500 (the old version, I don't think they've made any changes to the new one apart from the pretty aluminium facia) and a Hartke PRO 2200 cab 2x12" 4Ohm. Someone commented that Hartke are a poor man's Ampeg and I think that's probably the best comparison i've ever heard. I love my Hartke and although I GAS for other amps I only have to play a gig with my current rig and realise that i've already got the perfect sound. There's also a really good upgrade route from the HA3500 as I'd recommend you replace the pre-amp valve after you've had it for a while and then chuck an Aphex Bass Xciter in front of it and you'll want for nothing else.
