1. I have permanent castors on my Hartke PRO 2200 2x12". I thought I might lose that feeling of the bass through the stage with the reduced contact area, but all seems to be fine. With hind-sight, and if I ever get bored of my rig, I'll probably get a sack barrow for any future cabs. That way I can wheel them into the venue and still have full contact with the floor. Plus I can use the sack barrow to help out with the other PA gear.
2. Maybe you could send the serial number of to Warwick to see if they can identify it?
3. WOW. That really is a work of art. Beautiful.
4. I used a Peavey Nitro head which I hired for most of my initial gigs when I moved to Norwich and it sounded great. It was used every day in a rehearsal studio too. Indestructable and did a great job at sounding like a bass amp should.
5.
Well guys, I picked up a Line6 110 at the weekend from the family music shop in Bristol (Mickleburgh's Pianos) seeing as Fair Deal couldn't get it in anytime this month. That amp is seriously awesome, can't believe how much nice clean power it puts out! Oh and I got a discount too so it was only £155. I am chuffed.
Congratulations on your purchase. May it inspire you to practice all spare hours in the day!
6. I have my bass so that it is at the same height seated as it is strapped on. I thought it might look better to have my Precision a bit lower but found it nearly impossible to play anywhere other than high up now. To think I used to have it somewhere near my knees when I first started out!
7. My H4 has been great for recording practices for both my covers band (sensible volume levels) and metal bands (ridiculous volume levels). The clarity is quite amazing. All I need to do is import it into Cubase LE or Audacity and normalise the file, then it's ready to burn to CD and hand out to the rest of the band. If it broke then i'd definitely buy another one. Talking about breaking, it does feel a bit plasticy and flimsy but i've dropped it a couple of times and it's been fine. Invest in a 2Gb SD card to go with it as well.
8. I've got a couple of 10' Monster Cables I bought about 10 years ago and they're still as great as the day I bought them. I can see why they give you a Lifetime Guarantee with them. Unfortunately I lost the receipts years ago and have moved away from the store I bought them at, so if I do need any more cables then I'll be asking OBBM to supply them. Seems he has 100% satisfied customers here and great prices too!
9. I've got Levy, Jack Daniels and a 'no brand' straps. All of them are leather or suede and about 3 inches wide, which is bare minimum for the amount of time I wear my basses. My Warwick has Dunlop Straplocks on it (pre-dates Warwick putting strap locks on as standard) which have only failed once at a gig because I didn't put the strap on fully. The other two basses use the rubber washers off Grolsch bottles - these have never failed me and are by far the best value for money around.
10. I love my Hartke 3500. It is a very bright sounding amp when run flat. I believe this is something to do with the 'Transient Attack' thing they put in it. Very responsive and not at all woolley like the Ashdowns.
11. From the warwick.de website, the closest geographically seems to be across the water in Plymouth or Exeter: Sound Unlimited Sound Un Ltd T/A 19 Mayflower Street PL1 1QJ Plymouth [email protected] Manson's Guitarshop Ltd. Mccoys Arcade EX4 3AN Exeter [email protected] www.mansons.co.uk I'm sure any of your local music stores can order you gear in as Warwick have UK distribution themselves now.
12. 430x610x490 mm (approx) Yes, it is rather heavy.
13. I could look at those lines and curves all day and never get bored. Amazing detail in both the design and wood choices.
14. *** SOLD *** This cab was made by a friend of mine here in Norwich under his own brand of ELK. The speakers are Tayden Audio Systems 16 Ohm 150 Watt power handling each. Making the cab 8 Ohms with 300 Watts power handling total. I used to run this with another 15" cab as a mini stack but sold the 15" years ago. The cab is carpet covered with recessed handles. Sounds great on its own or paired with a 15". I bought this off of a friend of mine and played a couple of gigs with it but it has been stored under the stairs in my hallway since I moved house 2 years ago. Really need to shift it as the Mrs is looking for more space to store her growing shoe collection. *** SOLD ***
15.
hey, any of you guys tried a behringer rack tuner? i'm tempted by it's cheapo price, can't afford a proper korg one, just can't justify it... so... any experiences? cheers, tom ps - i know about their underhand tactics and cheeky ways, but this is something i WOULDN'T buy from another company, purely because of the price. pps - hey rich, how you gettin on with the emg pup?
I've heard that they have tracking issues when used with 5 string basses on the low notes. Hearing that put me off buying one of these bargains.
16.
peted , i bet you feel quite smug using it through the PA especially if your guit*r player has a big heavy rig
Bearing in mind that this is supposed to be a metal band they all scoffed when I put down my tiny little combo. Kept up easily with the guitarist and his all valve 100 Watt head when put through the PA. They didn't think anything else of it now that I take it along to every practice. I've promised them I'll use my big rig for gigs though.
17.
Pete, why not get a second Hartke 212 and stack that instead? I think it would have the fuller sound in comparison to the Warwick cabs.
I'd be there in a shot if my cab wasn't already 4 Ohms. Plus it wouldn't stack vertically too well as the top speaker is angled upwards and the top surface is smaller than the bottom. I think they've stopped making the bi-amp Hartke 2x350 Watt heads now.
18. I use a Hartke rig live but my practice amp is a Line6 Lowdown. Love it to bits and have used it for full band practices both on its own for my covers band and with P.A. assistance for my metal band. I have yet to trust it to do a gig but I'm planning on doing my next P.A. assisted one. According to the Line6 website they've identified the component which causes the hissing headphone output and you can send the first batch back to their designated repairer at your own carriage expense to get it fixed on warrantee. I don't use this facility so I'm not fussed. Take a set of headphones with you when trying one out to see if it's from the new fixed batch.
19. Is this what you were talking about BFM? I'm going to make it my mission to make this rig in a store to see what it sounds like.
20.
Warwick gradually pushed up the prices of their popular ranges over the years - if you can, check out the cost of a thumb in 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005. I'd put money on them outstripping the rate of inflation by a significant amount over a 10 year period. What its about at the end of the day is PERCIEVED value and the influence of branding on a consumers purchase decision. Its not about margins on top of costs.
I was just thinking that before I read your post. As a Warwick owner I have to think of their business model. Warwick pride themselves as investors in technology and try to automate as many of the mundane parts of their bass manufacture as possible. That doesn't mean that they pass on the cost cuts to the customer, they can just make more of a margin. They price their basses to reflect what they feel warrants the quality of their product. I love my Warwick. The resale value is terrible though. I don't know of many Sei owners but there seems to have been quite a few Sei builds pop up in the builds thread. My guess is that Martin is just trying to control the waiting time by reducing the number of orders he is getting. Sounds like perfect sense to me.
21.
Mostly spot on. While more expensive drivers tend not to work so well in sealed cabs, the Alpha 10 has sealed friendly specs, and typically is pretty flat to 80 Hz; in an SVT the -3dB (half-power) point is 58Hz. The main source of the SVT 'sound' isn't the drivers or the sealed cab, it's the height of the radiating plane. One can get the same effect from a pair of 2x10s stacked vertically, sans cost, hernia and transportation issues.
I think that has just given me a wicked idea for a new rig. Thanks for the tip BFM.
22.
Blimey, those Superfly heads are small!
The faceplate is very small but if I remember right they are quite deep. Looks tiny on top of that 1x15", certainly.
23. I've just wall-mounted my p0rn:

More Porn

Incredible. That is one of the best examples of Sei I've seen.
25. The passive Seymour Duncan 1/4 pounder in my Precision has a much hotter output than the active MECs in my Warwick. I was impressed.
