1. Can I ask what the parking situation will be like? How far between the car park and the booked rooms? Do we have any stairs to contend with? Thank you.
2.
With the 500 watt version it's imperative to use a flux capacitor - http://www.shopneo.co.uk/flux-capacitor-fr...--pr-16735.html - in series with the 50 watt 4R7, or else the interrossiter won't differentiate at low frequencies. Hamster
I certainly don't need any more confusing with all this electronics malarky! To think I even followed that link to check out the component I would need. Well done.
3.
I ended up using a 10w resistor on my Omni 10, Omni 15 and wedgehorn, no problems. Contact John here for all your bits n bobs:- UK Audio components
I'm building the 500 Watt Deltalite 2510 version. I'm paranoid that if I go with a resister that can handle less thermal wattage then I'm going to end up cooking it. I've ordered a 50watt 4R7 (I think that means 4.7 Ohm???) resistor to see how I get on.
4. I have lost my buyer for this. Back on the market...
5. I'm also hoping to pop to Homebase this week to pick up some weather-stripping to put around the baffle and back cover. My cab is going to be painted with black speaker cab 'tuff' paint.
6.
apologies for hijacking but the seems to be the best point to ask, where does it tell you in the plans about the wiring,in particlar about things like resistors etc,i fancy a go at an Omni 10 but the electronic side of things is a bit daunting. apologies again.
Page 18 explains about how to best wire the tweeters and mentions the use of the resister in series to prevent damage to cheap amplifiers.
7. I'm going to try to get to this. I'll bring my BFM Omni 10 if I've finished it and it sounds any good, Hartke 3500, Aphex Bass Xciter, Line6 Lowdown Studio, Warwick Thumb BO 4, custom butchered Japanese Squire Precision.
8. That Thumb looks gorgeous and I can't believe the mint condition. Make sure that you remember Warwicks need TLC with a good waxing every month.
9. OK. This weekend I've fitted the top and bottom horn flanges, cut out the woofer baffle, filled the screw holes, and given the whole thing a thorough sanding. Another question: Where do people get their 4 Ohm 20 Watt wire-would resisters from? I tried to order one of these with the other gear from CPC but it was out of stock and hasn't been in stock since. Any ideas? I'll post up more picks when the woodwork is pretty much finished. Thanks.
10. Ooh, this sounds interesting. My first baby is due in August. If i'm allowed out by the end of September then I'd be interested in this.
11. With all these Shuker builds going on in the Builds forum I'm surprised he's got time for TV spots Well done Jon! Great to see someone getting recognition and some advertising for the great work they do.
12. I've A/B compared the flat sound of the old ABM head and cabs against the Klystron/Classic head an cabs and there is quite a difference. The ABM gear flat does lack mid-range and is naturally a more 'vintage' (a much nicer way of saying woolly )sound. The Klystron/Classic combination is far more lively and modern sounding with greater mid-range and response. All Ashdown gear has an amazing amount of EQ and sound tweaking onboard so you can probably get just about any sound out of it, but when I'm reviewing gear in a shop I will always spend some time with the dials 'flat' to check out the 'natural' voice of the amp. EDIT: I'll also add that a great solo sound does not always make a great band sound and visa versa. It all makes things rather complicated when buying gear
13. I'm surprised that you didn't go for a Status graphite neck? Looks great.
14. ** BUMP ** Price now reduced to £40!! (though it's buyer collect only now) Cab is still located at my old house in Norwich, but will be moved to Rayleigh Essex in the next few weeks if that's an easier location to pick it up from.
15. *** PRICE DROP TO £300 *** This bass has now moved with me down to Rayleigh, Essex.
16. I heard this amp at the London Guitar Show. I already own a Hartke 3500 and this amp sounded comparable (which is brilliant to my ear!). I think I'm in a similar boat to yourself as I don't use the graphic EQ on my amp at all, and just use the high/low contour controls for a slight tweak depending on the sound of the room. If I get back to gigging regularly then I'm definitely buying the LH500 as a backup. I'm sure the rep at the Show said the retail would be £250-£300. That quote you've put there basically means that it's a hybrid amp. The pre-amp contains a little 'cheap' pre-amp valve to simulate the sound of a valve amp, but it uses solid-state/'transister' power amp. The same trick used in my 3500.
17. That's a great piece of wood you've got in that Thumb. Very nice indeed.
18. I have very sweaty hands, especially bad during summer gigs and under stage lights. I carry a cloth in my gig bag which I use to rub down my strings after practices and shows. I have found that my strings will last for months if I take the time to give them a quick buffing after play. Well recommended, and much cheaper than constant restringing
19. I went yesterday and really enjoyed it. Must have visited the Warwick stand about 100 times Saw Stu Hamm, Steve Vai, and Jonas Hellborg. Too shy to say hello though Gear highlights: Got to play on the Warwick Custom Shop Thumb 6 fretless with Koa top, and wenge neck. Stood around listening to someone demo the new Hartke Hydrive heads and cabs and they sound great. Saw some Overwaters in person and they look amazing. Popped along to the Tascam and got to play around with the new CD and MP3 Bass Trainers and very nearly bought the MP3 one to retire my old CD one (until I came to my senses and remembered that my CD one was still perfectly satisfactory for my needs). Spent most of the rest of the day with a sh*t-eating grin, until the evening when I had the unavoidable downer when I realised that I'd had to leave all that lovely gear behind
20. My father and I did some more work last Sunday. It's really taking shape now. Had some trouble putting it all together as some of the pieces were a little 'rough' with the measurements. Went together with a fair amount of pulling and tugging. The hardware:
21. I tried out a Warwick 611 Pro in a shop with a Warwick profet amp and it sounded great. Huge full-range tone with plenty of air being moved. Though I'm sure you really want the opinion of someone who has gigged with one of these. If it means anything to you, the bassist from Unearth uses two of these live.
22. I've realised that I don't really care what I'm playing as long as I'm on stage and the audience are enjoying it. I've learnt some songs that have made me cringe at the thought of them. When it comes to playing them live and people are all up and dancing it doesn't seem so bad. Coming from a nu-metal background, I relinquished all integrity with my first Blink182 and Green Day covers
23.
Yeah, lets re-word that. Peted is going, and if I get myself a ticket I'll be there with him. That definately sounds more like English, I must stop posting when I'm half asleep!
Yep, i've got my ticket and will be there on the Sunday (hopefully quite early). I'll give you a buzz before the weekend and I'll have my phone with me at the event. Though you'll probably find me glued to the Warwick stand
24. My Warwick Thumb doesn't have fretboard markers and it made absolutely no difference to my ability to play (or lack of ability ). I find that the fretboard is facing the audience most of the time and the dot markers up the side of the fretboard are far more important. I find that it is actually quite good to practice in the dark and try to get your hands to remember where the frets are. That way you won't get lost when all the stage lights go out at a gig!
