1.
Yip. Also, if we don't get anywhere with the masterclasses, we could have an amp room and a non-amp room?
Or at least make sure that all the valve poweramps are in one room as they are the ones that need to be cranked to get the best tone out of them!
2. I've created a Wiki page so people can jott down their ideas for Bass Bash etiquette. I think it would be best to keep the concepts quite 'open' and not direct i.e. I don't think we can ban Slap completely
3. That is a very special spec. I thought Warwick when I saw the 26 frets Photos of the wood, and body sketches needed!
4. Is there any kind of Bass Bash etiquette? I can imagine it turning into a right noise with all those amps and basses going at once. Do you do what the trade shows do and have quiet times and scheduled performance times? Is it a good idea to mark up all your gear with your name? Not that anyone here is untrustworthy or anything
5. A friend of mine had a semi-hollow birds-eye maple topped 5 string Shine. Sounded great but it was very heavy. Looked good from a distance but up close you could see that the neck pocket had huge gaps in it and the lacquer had been applied with a hose (very thick). All those negative points faded though when you saw the price, cheap as chips!
6. I ought to spend more practice time trying to master using a plectrum (I only picked up guitar briefly before moving to bass). Playing with a pick is a skill which has eluded me for a long time. I tend to get frustrated and just go back to what I'm familiar with (finger style). I used to be a finger snob, until I realised that it's actually very difficult to practice a consistent pick technique.
7. Weight according to my bathroom scales is 23.3 kg or 51.4 lbs Total cost to build (not including tools, screws, glue, labour, sandpaper, filler - as these were already provided by my father): £250~ I've got left overs from this build included in that cost though, so building a 2nd cab would be slightly cheaper now.
8. You could try popping down to a Machine Mart, or equivalent Trade supplier and see what they've got in stock. i bought wheels for my Hartke cab from Machine Mart which were far better made than the ones that it came with. I think they were only £2.50 each too - bargain!

My 4.....

That entire collection is awesome. I would have difficulty choosing which one to play first!
10. I don't think this should qualify as my rig until I've either had a band practice or gig with it, and I only just finished it yesterday. I think it looks purdy though
11. Oops, I haven't been back on this thread in a while. Didn't mean to start a Mac vs. PC debate at all. Though since Apple have moved to Intel processors the reason for their greater mark-up over PCs is questionable. If you think that the Mac has things better 'under the hoood' the OSX Operating System kernel is based on BSD Unix, which there are many flavours of available for the PC (FreeBSD, NetBSD, PC-BSD), or you could go with Linux. All of this being entirely off-topic, but I work in IT As far as Warwick being Veblen - You've got to admit that Warwicks are quite expensive when bought from new? I know they are crafted in Germany from gorgeous woods and with great quality control; but £1000+ RRP for a bolt-on Thumb? I love Warwicks and mine is purchased from new, but I'm thinking that is a bit steep given the competition. On topic - Far East quality control has to be the best it has ever been. I think the social stigma of purchasing a Squire, Rockbass or OLP has decreased, but it is still there. This means that Fender USA, Musicman and *Warwick* will still get away with charging high prices for their products to keep the >prestige< market fuelled.
12.
Fantastic mate. Now we need a Shuttle to try through it....
I am very interested to hear what these Genz Benz Shuttles are like. If possible, I'd like to try an array of those small-light amps through this cab to hear what they sound like (Little Mark II/250/F1, Eden WT260, Genz Benz Shuttle, Ashdown Little Giant).
13. I have just finished my Omni10 (2x Deltalite2510, 500 Watts, 4 Ohms). I'm moving house and my baby is due in the next month, but I suspect from the end of September onwards people will be welcome to pop round to give it a try. I'm at: Great Baddow, Chelmsford, Essex
14. The Omni10 is finished, sounding great, and will definitely be accompanying me to the Bash
15. I'm afraid I won't be able to tell you how it handles the full volume of my 3500 as I'd have the neighbours complaining 2 towns across! Suffice to say I had the master volume at 3/10 today and it was too loud.
16. Finished! Sounds rather good. Very responsive with masses of mid-range and treble, which I think is just the natural sound of my Hartke through a transparent cabinet. The low end became much thicker when I added the Aphex Bass Xciter. The volume and projection is just silly. I'm very happy and will be bringing it with me to the South East Bass Bash at the end of September. I'm not in a band at the moment, so I can't try it out in anger Costs and weigh-in will happen in the next couple of days. I haven't put handles or protective corners on it yet.
17. I believe that Devin Townsend also uses the Drummer From Hell Meshuggah kit for the Strapping Young Lad recordings. My old band have started to record using a midi connected Roland kit and Drummer From Hell, it sounds AMAZING
18. I would also be interested to hear people's first-hand views on these amps. What is the tone like? How doe they stack up sound-wise against the Little Marks, Genz Benz Shuttles, and Eden WT260s?
19. I quite often play unplugged to just do some finger exercises. To do some ear-training i'll use my Tascam and play along to a CD. When practicing scales or playing along to whatever happens to be on the TV or radio, i'll plug into my little Line6 Studio combo.
20.
The 2 pole sockets are keyed to stop you inserting a 4-pole plug.
I'm glad it's not me being dense then, thanks!
21. I recently bought a 2 pole socket for my Omni10 home-build to find that the cable and plug I've got coming from my Hartke amp is 4 pole and will not fit into the 2 pole socket (I guess this is a design 'feature'). Even though only 2 of the 4 poles are actually used in the amp plug I'm going to be replacing the 2 pole socket with a 4 pole one. I'm guessing the socket in my Hartke cab must be a 4 pole too as I never had any troubles getting the plug in?
22.
The trouser flapping remark is quite true.....I used it on 3/10 and I'm sure my trousers were being hit by the sound You lost me on logarithmic?????
The two types of potentiometers (knobs) that I know of are Linear and Logarithmic. A Linear knob will have 10% volume at 1/10, 20% volume at 2/10, 30% volume at 3/10... up to 100% volume only when you reach 10/10 A Logarithmic knob will have a very large increase in volume to start with e.g. 30% at 1/10, 50% 2/20, 60% 3/10, 65% 4/10.. with 98% 9/10 and 100% 10/10 A linear graph A logarithmic curve
23. I'll sit down and add up all the receipts when it's finished. I reckon it will be close to £300. I'll also weigh it when it's finished. It's not light though (and cumbersome as I haven't put any handles on it yet!).
24. This evening I am applying the final bits of paint as the weather is staying off.
25. I suspect that the Hartke 3500 has a wildly logarithmic volume knob. I know that I gig at about 2/10 and if I REALLY need to make trousers flap then I turn it to 3/10. Bonkers volume.
