  1. Totally unexpected AT. Just wandered into Cash Convertors late Friday night for a nosey. Only bass in the place and I'm right chuffed it plays so well.
  2. The revolution gave us choice an option unheard of in my hometown. Our local shop Thomson Music sold pianos and organs, then their own branded guitars appeared a Strat , Tele and a P bass. No colours just a greyish stain. P bass cost £119.99, nearly 2 months wages and weighed about 12lbs, played great though. Man I wish I still had that bass. Years later I A/Bd it against 6 Fenders. Never bought a Fender in my life on strength of that. Think of the money I saved
  3. Planer There's a good chance you'll get it this week. I ordered on a Sunday morning and it was delivered by 1pm on the Wednesday. Even allowing for xmas 10 days is plenty time. No battery or allen key with mines but the 5 string fretless label was glued inside. Could this be another reason for the much cheapness "False Advertising" it's a fretted 4 string
  4. The lads have posted some cracking basses. If the neck profile on Jon's fretless is the same as the one on my own then it will be the sweetest neck ever. Awfy glad I posted and gave fellas cause to show your old basses. Shame you moved yours on Mojo
  5. There's always Flightcase warehouse http://www.flightcasewarehouse.co.uk/music/index.asp?groupID=2400 I used them for my guitar stands. Quick and easy service
  6. That is more than just pretty amazing I'll get the neck off later and see what's there.
  7. Cheers Flat Eric Can't find much info on it. Would I be in the park thinking 84/85 and around £300. Saw there was a Deluxe Blueshift sold for £700 last month on Gumtree but what the difference is I've no idea. That headless of yours is lovely and very popular. Every Google search I've done on Gordy your bass turns up in the images Had more time with it this morning and yeah it's a damn fine bass guitar. Could be a fitting end to a year of many purchases. Cheers
  8. I'm of the same mind BassBus. Can't be anyone who played these back then bidding. I mean they were built for Sears in the US and Woolies over here. There was no difference between the bass and the guitar bodies and both used the same pickups. Everybody I knew who bought the Kay 50W amp had them blow up. These set music back 10 years, if it was a choice trying to play one of them or a wee casio keyboard. Casio won every time.
  9. Saw this and thought "Oh NO" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121510646394?_trksid=p2047675.m570.l5999&_trkparms=gh1g%3DI121510646394.N36.S2.R1.TR13 I'd one of these after the £1 hollowbody with the nailed pickup and tuners a'La pliers. Bought out the catalogue. I don't remember " Awesome vintage tone " more I mind weak pickup, building grade plywood body, short scale neck and flatwound strings.Try sounding like Geezer with that. It got painted black with a Skull, defretted, then had the horns sawn off after I saw the Steinberger. That was a bad idea so the horns were nailed back on. None of these mods improved the looks or sound any
  10. Mate of mines plays one. Damn fine bass. Was talking with an American lad who'd got a scruffy one out a pawn shop and when he stripped it it was a Koa body under the black. Can't fathom how that happened the Koa was used on the Unity model. But there was a Dyna/Unity model
  11. The Bass playing world is a tight pocket. While back I was in contact with a guy in Africa about a cheap Thomann bass. Months passed then he got in touch again saying he'd got one but it was modded slightly.Curiosity up I asked what the mods were, then told him it was from Thunderbird on here. Aye it's well cool how folk can spread the word now.
  12. Aye He's one of the best. When I was chatting with him earlier your drummer's boss chipped in too. Wonders of social media eh.
  13. You're a bit far from me to catch any shows Mike so I've past your links to friends in Redditch. You know those friends I've just discovered It's Rich Lewis. Small world eh
  14. Mike I'm getting an empty page from your link. Heard Thorns of Black on the FB page though. Good luck Folks
  15. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
  16. My neighbours would be up in arms if I took up horns. Deko double bass now that's another matter.
  17. Good to hear some form of action on the voucher AT. Does sound like Maude's happy. Already planning another one Hey Maude you better be quick
  18. Something a wee bit out of character for me here. I saw this Gordy Blueshift II yesterday and the name rang a bell so checked here for some info but no replies as yet. From what I gathered it was made outside Manchester by the Gordon side of Gordon Smith possibly by an apprentice called Andy. [attachment=178475:Gordy Blueshift (5).jpg] Serial number is 00056 which I take means it's the 56th build but I'm guessing here. Reckon it's about 9lbs and it's passive. Shape reminds me a bit of a Westone Spectrum, Schaller bridge, machineheads and strap locks are fitted and I think the pickups are G/S own make, you adjust the heights from the back. [attachment=178473:Gordy Blueshift (9).jpg] So how does it play and sound ? Surprisingly well, action was low,no fret buzz or crackily pots. Fair bit of buckle rash on the back and dinks as should be expected for a bass that must be close on 30 years old. Gloss finish on the neck and a nice profile. I've only had about 45 minutes playing so far but I like how it sounds but I've not adjusted to the shape yet, that'll come though. I really didn't need another bass but you know what it's good to have something British for a change,I'd not seen one before and it's a decent no-frills bass. Asking price was £170 but they took £140.The fact that it's handmade is a bonus too. So aye it's been a good start to the day. If you squint you might make out " Made in Great Britain " [attachment=178474:Gordy Blueshift (3).jpg]
  19. Is it the smear where your thumb might rest and the light spot on the upper curve near the binding AT?
  20. There's also the 007 Bar ,James Bond theme pub. It's across the road from the Guy who got raided for supposed supply of crystal meth chemicals Was seeing a lass lived opposite him. Interesting morning, CSI white suits everywhere, road shut and me rough and in need of carry out
  21. edit "It was bought yesterday" . I've seem a Blueshift II locally. Finish is well worn and it's clarty . They're asking £170 for it. Now the thing is I really don't need another bass but I'm drawn by the " Made In Great Britain " on the headstock, sadly such a rare occurrence these days. I'm not all that patriotic about GB it's just I reckon it would be nice to have a British bass again.Last one was a Wal back in 1990 and I can't see me buying another of those What's the general feeling Gents ? Is it a good idea ?
  22. That's bang out of order the way they're handling their mistake. It's a no-brainer, you've got the paypal email they pay up no questions. You'll be contacting them higher up the ladder I trust. This kind of thing sours the purchase.I'd be pointing them towards this thread highlighting those of us having no problems as a reason for the purchase. Then this happens. Get on the case AT and give them hell.
  23. They both say 44 euros AT. I'm registered with Thomann so just paid through their site IIRC. Just checked the PayPal email for that sale,it only lists the 44 euro to Thomann. Nothing about what the money was for but VAT,postage and packaging are all zero. The next order to Thomann is the same just the amount paid and it tallies up exactly with the Thomann order email.
  24. AT I just checked my orders from Thomann by PayPal. No overcharging so I checked the Thomann order I used the voucher with. It shows item price then shipping then it shows the voucher refund and the voucher number. Check your order if it was entered it'll show there.
