1.
With you on the PF800, but possibly you may like to consider a Barefaced Dubster instead of the PortaFlex? http://barefacedbass...nge/dubster.htm
I've past owned a Dubster, great cab...then the same band folded so i swapped it for something more generic (another Barefaced in fact). It was a great cab indeed, but i need some thing a bit more generic. My favorite cab to date was a 6x10 Warwick but again i'm not sure my back did.
cab. Get a high end cab and a decent high powered micro (I don't trust Ampeg's latest PF amps one bit) and you are good to go.
I trust your point on the 15" cab...i may well reconsider something different. Regards the PF issues, yeah I've read the stories...yet i would hope those issues are sorted by now. Not heard so many horror stories with the 800 as per the 500 though
2. Meh! I'm in an amp crisis at the moment. My trusty Orange TB died and is currently with Orange. My back up Eden Nemesis NA650 has started to cut out lots and make a horrible distorted noise and then slowly come back on again after a short while - rather embarrassing at a recent wedding gig. Have opened the Eden, nothing obvious that i.can see though - shame as i love this amp for my reggae stuff too. ....and soooo after long consultation with the Mrs and the pending arrival of my university bursary, wifey agree's that i can get a new amp-so one must act quick whilst her iron is hot. After doing some research, knowing the sound i like, I've finally arrived at the Ampeg PF800. I will be using it with a reggae/dub band and also a soul/funk band. I like a warm vintage type sound and have a preference for the 800watts due to the rather loud sound system situations i can end up in with the dub band (nice to have the head room too). I'm also considering the PF 15" cab to go with it too and sell off my Hartke 4x10XL (i love my Hartke but my back doesn't)...plus i think i'm more of a 15" guy...ahem! I will of course still keep my OTB and perhaps operate further on the Eden but I think an Ampegs on the cards Thoughts, opinions etc
3. Ampeg PF800 and the 15" PF cab too
4. If you have problematic sleeping then look up 'Mindfulness' techniques on the net. I use it a lot with people through my work and it seems to work wonders for the majority
5. Finally at the Orange surgery....i shall eagerly await the outcome
6.
The last band I was in I left, partiallly because the money became more important than the enjoyment to everyone else
Ditto, I've just recently put my notice in on my soul band as money is the only reason for its existence now, the fun has diminished and the personalities have become fragile to say the least. So much so that they ditched all 'fun' lower paid gigs in favour of constant wedding payers. Not for me im afraid, hence my moral departure. Back to some fun reggae times for now, despite being skint
7. This is so painful at such a great price, unfortunately I'm the otherside of the country. I'd have it straight away
8. Is this a good point to gloat about my recently acquired 1974 Jazz Total pure holy grail type love, mines not to heavy either. Can't beat a real good vintage but the dealer prices on them are ridiculous. Good luck with your search. Gloat over
9.
If the capacitor is not physically secured either with a mounting bracket or glue, constant vibration fatigues the legs and they snap.
Exactly this, twice as well I'm on my hols right now but will contact Orange on my return. Thanks guys
10.
That is a bargain! I love my fortress
Me too, still my favourite neck on all the basses I've ever tried......classic bass and a steal for under £500
11. Its the larger blue capacitor on the left that i changed.
12. Typically at a packed gig my OTB 500W head dies Why does this never happen in rehearsals but only at the great gigs? Light went out, no sound...i thought fuse but that was ok. Ironically there was no foldback over my side of the stage due to issues with the foldback set up. I had to stand right up to the PA to hear my bass coming through , pfft! nightmare with a bloody trumpet parping away in my ear. Anyhow, it turns out a capacitor had broken off the PSU part of the amp, not the big power mama's but the next size down, 2200uF 63V, jobbies. So i thought hmmm, easy job, and off to Maplins i went. Soldered a new capacitor and still nothing. No lights or sound. Checked all fuses, no issues. Got 240Vs coming in from my multimeter & 18Vdc at the amp bit, but no l.e.d.s on the board are on. Tried capacitor the other way around, still no joy. Did mantras etc...no luck So what are my options? I'm out of warranty from Orange & Mansons i guess, particularly as there was a capacitor or similar came loose 10 months before this issue,it was by the mains input this time. Our keyboard player fixed that issue quickly. I'm kicking myself now as i should have got it repaired under warranty then but the urgency was i needed my amp asap as i was committed to a lot of function gigs at that time and had no spare. oh, and i changed the tubes too. I'm wondering if i should contact Orange and see if they'll repair and i'll have to pay up??? Any other ideas welcome? I have an ONC in electronics although that was 20years ago so have forgotten a lot being a social worker these days ....any help or ideas welcome though. I love my Orange...hope its not time to bury it.
13. Met with Simon, somewhere in between the middle of nowhere to do a bass trade. It was a pleasure to meet Simon who is a lovely friendly chap and equally the trade went smoothly too, both happy. Buyers/Sellers/Trades can deal in total confidence. Thanks Simon, i'm hoping this bass will be a keeper . All the best - Lee
14. Got a picture at all ?
15. C'mon Eileen of course
16. Wow, what a read that lot was. Well done BC crew
17. Just done a recent trade with Phil. Top fellow and great communications throughout. Another safe and credible bass chatter in my experience - deal with confidence.
18. Just a thought, can an HH not be converted to either a HS or H with the change of a pick guard and added pickup for the HS ? Nice to have those options as opposed to living with just an H perhaps?
19. Yes bless him on all his great work - a true wizard, and good luck on his retirement plans i say. BTW, I have some Wizard Vintage P/J's - £200 or best offer ....only joking, they'll be worth 3 times that in years to come, along with Ryder basses, and i'm not selling them either...cuz they're lovely
20. Michael is a top, top, top fellow. I needed a JD bass wah for a forthcoming festival gig,and despite being on his holidays he sold me his and went out of his way to get it to me not only before the gig but for a gig pre practice too. I cannot praise Michael enough, a true credit to basschat PS. It worked awesome at practice and did exactly what i needed it for....i'm back in the drummers good books -thanks
21. Art v Science debate! I'm not sure talent can be achieved through SMART, my opinion of course
