One from the top, although it looks like it has snapped as the truss rod is somewhat down the neck, approx 3 inches. It looks like the top may have snapped off.

I've got this 70's Hohner Jazz which has a broken truss rod-i bought it cheap with this in mind. However i know nothing about DIY or repairing for that matter ...sooo would it be an easy straight forward fix and how would i go about doing it? Thanks

I never really imagined my ray with flats but i've put some D'addrio chromes on my pre EB and am loving the tone indeed, very warm. Didn't bernard edwards Chic use flats on a ray or am i dreaming that bit ?

THE worst (bass related) feeling in the world
Raslee replied to warwickhunt's topic in General Discussion
A couple of months back I was at a music festival and was under the influence of excessive reckless hedonism after a gig (actually during also). Anyway, I made it vitally important that i don't leave my bass behind when we're done in the arena.....i was happy to leave my ampeg gear until morning collection however my 79 Ray strictly had to be with me no matter what. So i managed to get my bass, and my goodself, to the aptly named 'community centre' (our drummer 70's caravan) and of course more excessive hedonism prevailed. Then it all went a bit blank for me. When my wife woke me in our Bongo van she asked where is my bass...well if the hangover, screaming child, lack of water, and excessive sun when you least need it wasn't enough to deal with.... i now had to find my bass with a head full of fear. About 5 minutes later Some unknown hippy came over to our van and said 'i found this in the grass outside that caravan' and handed over my guitar in its case........phew! I then b@ll@cked my wife for scaring me with such silly questions so early in the afternoon....followed by Bloody Maries at the Community Centre to calm my stresses -
I quite enjoy playing Ghostown by the Specials in our cover band & I shot the Sheriff by BMW has its moments too - but nothing like a simple a loud belly thumping Stalag 17 riddim (if that means anything to anyone?) with super Ampeg phat dub bass tone

Great guy, sadly missed. One of the first people to contact me on BC. Lovely chap.

I wonder, in terms of build quality, how this compares to the Squire CV range? I have owned a VM Jazz in the past and although a good bass for the money i feel the CV range is leaps ahead having tried the jazzers and purchased a 51P. :snob:

I tried a MIM roadworn Jazz and A/B'd against the LPB CV Biffy Squire Jazz and considering the shop had the MIM priced around £900 and the Squire at i think £349 i was left very cold with the MIM. Not only did i prefer just about everything about the CV, i really couldn't see how the roadworn could be priced at £900 - it looked cool and that was just about it - the MIM i played did not compare to the CV quality IMO...great basses those CV's for the price - i love my 59 P but thats another thread somewhere

Do VST's work in Apples Logic or does it have to be AU's only ?

You can't beat an all valve head... I'm afraid!

Viva le Ampeg I love my SVT 4  . Used to have an LH500 and although a great amp the Ampeg is definitely more of a Ferrari (albeit a heavy one)....i'll get my jacket -
That's amazing - better than your Lakland and Warwick for reggae - OK I'm gonna have to try one soon, do you have yours strung with flats ?
Yeah definitely impressed with this one Steve , i shall be keeping it for a while (famous last words) - very solid sound and balanced across the strings - the D & G shine through nicely too. Lightness is a blessing and the quality build is astounding, low action, no buzzes, smooth neck and the stock pick up sounds good to my ears; i was planning prior to hearing the bass to upgrade the PU but as i say i am more than happy with the stock PU......I'm still blown away by this bass TBH. I gigged it last weekend and had lots of positive comments about the good sound and some surprised faces when i proudly said its a 'Squire' Not tried flats on it yet but its in the pipeline - just a bit M.O.T. skint at the mo...got some flats on my MM though, D'Addrio Chromes....really like them! It probably doesn't do the bass sound justice but heres a mobile phone clip from the said gig http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDAmALVa2nY...player_embedded
Hey Rasta ! How is it for reggae - as deep as the front pup on a jazz bass ?
I tried it last night at a reggae rehearsal through my Ampeg. I ended up marking the settings on my amp as it was truly the best sound i have ever had - even better than my Lakland sound which is my next best sounding bass (IMO of course) .....also had lots of compliments about my sound throughout the night. It seemed brighter than the neck Jazz PU but only very slightly but this brightness is a warm bright if that makes sense....i'm sure this will mean something in a reggae way. Definitely worth trying one out rather than just a fashionable fad & light too - Man from Del Monte says yes.
