  1. With any decent compressor, you shouldn't lose anything that they you don't want to lose. Notes on the low B will usually sound a bit more taut (which is a good thing) and of course your playing generally will sound to be at a more consistent level.
  2. You could have someone's eye out with that ...
  3. I don't think I've ever seen the expression "Enjoy Huddersfield" before.
  4. It matters a lot to me - not that I've done that many recordings. Seven years ago we decided to record our NYE gig in order to put together a showreel. One of the songs that featured was Play That Funky Music, especially the guitar solo with me playing an impeccable funk riff beneath it all the way through. Trouble was, I knew damned well that I'd screwed up that riff several times on the night. Sure enough, the BL (who happens to be a pro video editor) had isolated one of the few occasions I'd got it bang on, and then he'd simply treated that as a sample throughout. Despite lots of jocularity and band banter ensuing, I was genuinely whizzed off.
  5. Somewhere High Status, I imagine ...

  7. Now this has been edited, it probably constitutes one of the most baffling threads on Basschat.
  8. Pick up change? Nah - leave it as a tip. Oh no, wait ...
  9. That's no way to talk about the Basschat Marketplace!
  10. Bloody Warwick players ...
  11. Well that's not much of a secret ... you just told everybody!
  12. If they want him to read any more than those, they have to pay him extra.
  13. God YES!!! How could I possibly have forgotten those six?
  14. In fact, I've just realised that I still have it somewhere! Hey Mic Mac Moe, make me an offer ...
  15. I used to use the Rolls PM351: https://www.musicstore.de/en_GB/GBP/Rolls-PM-351-Personal-Monitor-Station/art-REC0009328-000?campaign=GShopping/UK&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiJncBRC1ARIsAOvG-a4r6eqS_3YmWnPjxb-deg7h3ztqdpMXtAmUU0nPKSgB9ebPHHD1OyoaAvQnEALw_wcB
  16. I haven't quite worked out why it's called the D400. Power: 350W/4Ω, 200W/8Ω
  17. If I'm on a big stage with a decent audience and sound engineers and loads of equipment and a fully-landscaped Gospel group into harmonies and whatever then in-ears probably win. Playing in a 4-piece Grandad-rock band down at the Dog & Duck I'm more inclined to keep it simple.
  18. I'd take this over in-ears any day: https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/wharfedale-pro-wpm1-personal-monitoring-solution?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiJncBRC1ARIsAOvG-a4p5M2Hh74s0pjYkoNmRoN1SVVsD2Zw4cm03PjJdwgRcVZ2cOaZF70aAhCBEALw_wcB
  19. Moving away from the endless (and predictable) list of famous singing bass players, unless you really believe that you are Geddy Lee or Paul McCartney you're not going to learn much from watching them on YouTube. I take lead vocals on about one song in five with The Junkyard Dogs - the main singer has a much better voice than me and (of course) as a guitarist in a 2-guitar band he can sing far more easily on far more songs. If you're looking for advice on how to do it, start with songs which are Already very familiar to you, things you don't even need to think about, Well within your range, so that you're not stretching yourself too much, Have basslines that are either simple or which you have played so many times that you can repeat on autopilot. Unless your voice has particular qualities - perfect pitch or wonderful clarity or a superb timbre - it's well worth investing in one of the Mic Mechanic range range: https://www.gak.co.uk/en/tc-helicon-mic-mechanic-2-tc169/908532?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiJncBRC1ARIsAOvG-a4QT1xvpe-BI507WxACfOmH5CoPso1jsGLNjTEhvd5QGkEFNjd6DeMaAn5jEALw_wcB or https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/TC-Helicon-Duplicator-Effects-Processor/1VBM?origin=product-ads&campaign=PLA+Shop+-+GENERIC&adgroup=GENERIC&medium=vertical_search&network=google&merchant_id=1279443&product_id=87250d1&product_country=GB&product_partition_id=126958483519&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiJncBRC1ARIsAOvG-a4jdDf2J_yfQwwmC3DKP7TpJLrBXlnx4TdxbCy2KuQwbOQMjTiQHKYaAgedEALw_wcB
  20. ??? If you have £230 available then buy a decent pre-owned Squier. That would be a much better bet IMHO.
  21. Just because it looks (a bit) like the real thing doesn't mean that it will play or sound even remotely like the real thing.
  22. I reckon you'll be on your own there, mate! Walk away and don't look back.
  23. Oh don't you start, Geoff! It was your review of the SL4 that got me thinking, and my bank account is about to be substantially thinner as a direct result. Daft thing is, that SL4 would be a very bad fit for my needs anyway ...
  24. Why does it say £180 in the listing title? Are you selling two of them?
  25. When I was invited (by the singer) to join my Tex/Mex band the BL (call him Rik) was not keen initially because I already played in another band. After a couple of months I discovered that Rik also played guitar in a Country band. And that his Country band was looking for a bass player. So I put myself forward for the slot. Rik liked the idea of me playing bass in the Country band, but advised me not to mention the Tex/Mex band to the BL of the Country band because "he doesn't like it when people play in more than one band". You couldn't make it up ...
