1. Paul can you PM your postcode so I can get an accurate cost for delivery. Mike
2. Hi Paul, do you have any idea what the postage to Merseyside would be
3. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it.
4.
Have you seen the review above with Nathan King (Marks Brother) above .
I have seen the review with Nathan King but I felt that most of it was aimed at the amp and its various features. Apart from expressing how little the two cabs weighed I don't think they had that much to say other than their power rating. I am hoping to try some out for myself, but until I get the chance I will put my faith in the opinions and reviews expressed on here
5. I am considering going for the Ashdown 2x10 and 1x15 cabs to use with my Trace Elliot 300w SMX. The weight of the cabs is ideal but I have not been able to find any revues on these cabs. The alternative for me would be the Fender Rumble 2x10 and 1x15. Both of these are a tad heavier but they get a lot of positive feedback from owners.
6.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdGPhQPATPg A wee video ofmyg band from Austin Texas, at South by South West this year. Great fun... considerin it was at half 3 in the afternoon!
great stuff really enjoyed that
7. I did a gig recently and had a pretty catastrophic failure with my Yamaha 424x. When the Barrel Style Jack socket decided to throw its hand in. It wasn't a wiring issue that could of been repaired with a soldering iron, it was a component failure. The bass had been fine for the sound check but dead as a dodo for the start of the set. Luckily I always carry a spare bass with me so just plugged that one in and carried on with the gig. Replaced the faulty barrel Jack socket the next day and the bass sprung back to life. Quite a fiddly job to replace the barrel Jack and not something I would ever carry with my spare strings, cables, battery's etc
8. I have the older 25W model and it's absolutely perfect for my needs. Can't recommend them enough
9. I have used it and found it pretty useful, lets you get a reasonable thumbnail sketch of the song that you can play along with. Once you conversant with the changes you can then work out the more interesting or subtle bits, or like me make your own bit up
10.
The output stage. I think volume isn't the issue..they can be loud enough but I feel they lack authority. Having sad that..plenty of amps do which is why my alternative to my class D is a big block with a heavy (very) heavy transformer in it. I was having this discussion with an amp designer of quite a reverered brand and he said the same thing. As much as he wanted to have a class D option, he couldn't find that that worked as he wanted at his price point. So, I get the impression that Class D doesn't work for bass, IMO, unless yu have a very capable (expensive) power stage which kind of floats against 99% of the bass market, at present..?? Thanks for your opinions and advice. Will be looking to change my current set up soon, so don't want to buy something that's going to run out of steam or sound thin
11. Without wishing to derail the OPs thread, what reservations to people have with class D amps. Assuming that it's nothing to do do with the weight and portability off the class D what other issues do you have with solid state or valve amps
12. I have found my Farida FJB-20 to be top draw in terms of quality, sound and playability. Is a little on the heavy side but sits nicely with a good wide leather strap. I also have the Farida Precision FPB-18 which is a match for anything in its price range and has one of the slimmest necks I have come across.
13. Brand new model is £390 from PMT online. Worth considering
14. I think this looks fantastic as does the super P Bass they also do
15. I played the same model in PMT Manchester. I had read many great reviews of these basses and it was under consideration to come home with me. Once I tried it I was left very unimpressed with it. It may have been the set up , which was way too high for me but the tone and sound also left me feeling disappointed. Compared to my Farida Jazz which is made in the same factory at the squire it came a distant second. This was a brand new model which had a pretty high price tag and would definitely of benefited from a good set up. I assume the one you are considering is a a fair bit less than the asking price of a new one. In fairness I thought the CV looked great and the build quality looked spot on
16. Was in Manchester PMT and they had sunburst Yamaha BB 1024x for £350. Great value. If I didn't already have one I would of bought it
17. Farida P bass has a super slim jazz style neck, excellent build quality and cheap enough to mod it to exactly how you it. Mine has a an SD Quater Pounder in and sounds fantastic
18. Went to see Albert Lee in Manchester without knowing any of his songs or hearing anything he's done before. Absoloultley blown away by his talent, fantastic band, fantastic gig. Now checking out some of his back catalogue
19. Yes fully recoverd now. Things like that though do change your perspective, it's always easy to assume some one else is going to help somebody out and not get involved. At least that's what I've probably done in the past. Hopefully I've now got a better perspective now
20. The kindness is strangers never ceases to amaze me. I have recently benefited from such an act. After a 4 hour Rehersal I was getting ready to pack my gear up when I was struck with what turned out to be a severe bout of Labryithits which effects your inner ear. I could barley stand up and was extremely nauseas and in no position to drive home. I had a car full of bass gear, miles from home and not able to stand up straight. The owner of the Rehersal studio who I had never met or spoken to before noticed I was still outside the building and in some distress when he was locking up. He checked me over then told me to sit in the passenger seat. He then jumped into the driver seat and drove me and all my equipment home, while his wife followed behind in their car. This was such an unexpected gesture and greatly appreciated as I was totally incapacitated with the attack of Labryinthits that I had no way of getting home. This guy was a real star who went out of his way to help a stranger when he could of just locked up his premises and drove straight past me. He is deffinatley due some good karma
