1.
So what was the verdict when you tried it dood?
I'm really sorry! I've had a crap weekend of back-to-back work and other BS to deal with so I've not had an opportunity to put the cheeky chap through it's paces. That said, the playing I did do on Friday was actually tons of fun and I found the system behaved well on the 5ms setting. I meant to take it with me to the studio on Thursday, but I had to dash out the door. I will of course report back thoroughly in due course.
 2.
Well personally I don't buy bass cabs for anything other than to provide live sound reinforcement, the sound of the cab directly to ear is the only thing that matters, hearing it through another speaker doesn't tell me anything useful, kind of like watching an advert for a TV ... on another TV.
I do take your point there - indeed in some reviews I've spoken about the limitations of the medium we are using. However, the reviews aren't just about how a piece of equipment sounds. Those watching are interested in feature set, ease of use, functionality and in the case of a bass for example, how it feels to play. No one can tell you what you are hearing and how you feel about an instrument, so ultimately it's about getting out and trying it for yourself, But for those who want to start doing a bit of research, I guess it's not a bad place to start?
 3. I've had some really good responses from Fender recently too - I think I could have chatted with the same guy! Anyway, it's great to see such comprehensive information coming back. Hey Lojo, could we see some more pictures now that the link is dead? It seems you have a rather cool bass!
 4.
Funny you say that Dood as I was going to say the exact same thing. They REALLY suit my Jazz Bass. Seem to bring out the qualities I like even more so. It really sings with these strings.
Exactly that! I think it's the detail in the mid range I like. It hard to describe what I am hearing, but 'sings' is a good description!
 5.
Haha. This is a hint that Alex's proposed new bass amp might NOT be Class D.
Or, the modules he could use are the latest breed of D Class amplifiers with meaty power supplies. Interestingly I've been looking at the same modules for my own project that has been yet to start. I can't reveal anything just in case I don't have time..
 6. Yes! I'm a fan of the FlexSteels! - I still swap between different D'Addario strings, but they seem to really suit my Fender and are great on my 6er. Big thumbs up here.
 7.
Grangur found her again Dood... http://basschat.co.u...retender-no328/
Snapped up on eBay, I missed out on the auction. I suspect it is long gone now, but of anyone spots it out in the wild, do let me know!* *read as 'back on eBay'
 8.
True but I have a feeling it will be on ebay again in the near future?
Well, I'll keep an eye out! I'll ping a message in to the 'lost dogs' thread too.
 9.
And besides you would never play it as you probably have tons of sexy gear anyway lol
Still makes me wonder who bought though..
 10. If you're just demoing - is it that you specifically need multi-channel recording? I'd eevn venture down the route of getting something like the awesome Zoom Q8 - a stereo video recorder designed to handle loud music. Or for that matter even the older Q3HD can be picked up for next to no money these days AND you have video footage to go with it too.
 11.
It isn't - it's just having an amp that can do the amount of power you need for a full note length. With some of the optimistically specced Class D amps you might need a '900W' amp whilst a Class AB that can do its 300W continuously might have similar heft and loudness. But it isn't the Class D or Class AB thing that makes the difference, it's the power supply. The iAmp 800 was Class D with a traditional power supply. The Markbass LM2 was Class AB with an SMPS.
In the competition to make the smallest and lightest amplifiers I'd suggest that maybe power supplies were shrunk and squeezed in to confined spaces and thus may be unable to provide the power source required for that all important girth.
 12. Nawww shucks!!! Thank you very much for the kind words. I do try and in honesty there's so much I would like to offer in my reviews but there are certain limitations as you can imagine. (Time/Costs/Space etc) I hope that therefore what I do get over is helpful and worthy! One thing I try not to do is shred or unseat the viewer by fulfilling an ego trip or anything like that. I mean, I could treat you to a ten minute prog bass solo in 13/8 but that is definitely not what demos and reviews should be in my view. I love bass gear and I love doing reviews - I could play with this kit all day every day!
 13.
And besides you would never play it as you probably have tons of sexy gear anyway lol
Well, I do love my toys and I think they're sexy! Not to everyones taste though I am sure! - but surprisingly I was looking for another 4 string to teach with! It just so happens that this one turned up coincidentally at the same time!
 14.
In that case I think you did the sensible thing and stopped bidding so in reality it could just be a Pretender thats worth about 200 bangers tops?
I'm far too sensible for my own good at times, but yes, I took the right choice and backed out.
 15.
But it hasn't sold if his mate has bid the value up twice. From my PoV it's worth the £700 ( though maybe knocking off £50 after his failed second attempt) purely because it's sentimental. But I get what you mean about feeling what it's worth, entirely different thing that is!!
Yes sorry, I was busy coming to terms with it.. heh! - It really isn't worth 700, even sentimental money. Really nice CIJ 62 reissues on here have failed to reach £450 and they are in great condition. This 'at a push' is an RI neck on an unknown body.
 16. but ya know, too late now - someone has grabbed themselves an interesting instrument for what they felt it was worth - and that's what eBay is all about. Hopefully it'll still be as nice as it was 25 years ago
 17.
....gulp.... Might be time to hit him with the harsh realities of the worth. Send him links to Lozz's 78's at £1100 and perhaps some vintage RI's, throw in some bitsers, add that it's collection only and he should have a better informed evaluation!
Well, when I first spotted it - and boy was I surprised to see it again, I did contact him. He asked lots of questions about the bass and I referred to my own notes and pictures from when I was a teen. (Yes I was a stickler for details even then!) I told him what the bass was worth and then offered more in an effort to secure it, but he wanted at least 700 when he realised 1500 was out of the question.
 18.
Coincidence, or sellers mate pushing it up?
Hmmmm, well, he did say that he wanted way more for the bass - i mean he'd said that it was valued by a bassist as £1500!! - no way Jose!
 19. I bid last second and was outbid higher than what I feel the value of the bass was. Interestingly the last bidder pulled out as he couldn't pay for it. (I'd chatted with the seller about it). I'm a bit cheesed off as I'd have liked it back for sentimental reasons but not because it was a 'fender'.
 20. Hi guys - just been alerted to this thread. it didn't sell the first time and has been readvertised. It'd be wrong for me to say anything about the auction though as I don't own the bass - but yes it used to be mine and I sold it when I was a teen some 25 odd years ago. It does seem to lack the things you'd expect from a real fender, but I didnt know that when I was rather young!
 21.
Grangur found her again Dood... http://basschat.co.u...retender-no328/
Oh wow I'm on it ...
 22. How odd! - I'd suggest checking with D'Addario UK and maybe seeing if the 'extra long' set of the same gauge will suit. Their customer services are A1 and I am sure they will help you out.
 23. Here ya go Chris: (Clickable)
 24.
Nice to see you on here SmoothHoundChris! With a transmitter that small, hope you are gunning for the sax/trumpet/horn market? The dinkiest transmitter would be a right coo in that market!
I really like that the transmitter is small too. I mean, if you are slipping a small D Class head in to the front of a bass gig bag and carrying your cabinet in one hand, the last thing you want is a big wireless box to fit in the case too. I think this is a great little product and I suspect after taking it out for a proper spin it'll win me over. I'll get the low F# on it later
 25.
I assume your bass has passive pickups then? The wireless is effectively providing a pre-amp so your pickups aren't loaded by the cable. I prefer the sound of my guitars through the wireless but for some people it's a touch too bright so they can round it off with the cable tone simulator.
Yes! Spot on, I was running my bass in passive mode! - I'll try it with my actives later
