1.
Does anyone know if the receiver will play ball with my gig rig power supply?
Gig Rig can certainly delivery more than enough current. You'd either have to set the polarity via gig rig and it's accessories or using the polarity changer that Chris has mentioned earlier. I really can't see that there would be a problem at all in that case.
  2.
I'm really hoping that most people don't think it's a big deal (we've sold 30 sets so far with no complaints) and that the polarity reverser cable will make it a "non-issue"?
I don't think it's a big deal at all and actually, being from an electronics background myself (albeit trained a while ago now) I could see the benefit of a centre +ve. Indeed my own guitar related projects were all wired that way. I took my system out last night and chained up all sorts of effects and distortion sounds and compression. We ran it in a studio practice room with all the usual strip lighting etc and found the wireless performed very well. I had the odd flicker of the red LEDs that tell you how much interference is being picked up (so virtually none then) and enjoyed a nice clear bass sound all evening. Battery life is very good. I left the unit on all night (3 hours) plus the hours I have been messing around with it at home. Just one LED of the 'fuel gauge' has extinguished, meaning there's plenty of juice still left. There's only one thing I have found that isn't a deal breaker at all - it's just a trade off. The receiver is so small and light (big plus) that actually when I use a long lead plugged in to it, the lead is heavy enough to pull it off the amp top! heh! No problem, I looped the cable either under the amp or through the cabinet top mounted handle. Easy! I will get an adaptor eventually to strap mount the transmitter, simply because the back end of my bass *is* a bit of an odd shape. All in all, very little to fault for a plug-and-play system.
  3. Not many basses but I shudder to think how many amps, cabs and effects I've had from BassChat!
  4. Here ya go - this one is in fairly good nick...
  5. I took mine out to one of my lessons tonight. I let my student loose on it for a good thrash and it was very good indeed. He loved it! We did find that unfortunately it wouldn't fit his Ibanez SR as the folding Jack is too big for the front situated sunken socket hole. I think the system is cool!

According to the readers of BassChat it's a very very good bass to own! Congrats on the new bass day!
  7.
Hi all. Cheers for the feedback. Much appreciated! Andrew (D'addario UK) contacted me personally to explain a little more about the string. He thinks that they will perfect for my playing. Proof is in the tasting though, will let you all know how I get on once my Flex's arrive! Greg.
Andrew is a top chap!
  8. I've already had mine made, so I guess I'll just say it again - Jon Shuker of ShukerGuitars.co.uk The guy is just an incredible force to be reckoned with - and still way under charges for his work! Sheldon Dingwall is right up the top of my list too. I like his ethos and ideas about bass design.
  9.
Andrew Guyton.
Andy is a top top guy! Good call.
  10.
Yes, it is safe to leave the batteries in. Discharge in the off state is <10 microamps so the batteries will stay good like that for years.
Brilliant! That's great news!

Wow!!! Yes! Love it! Now I'm inspired to have a maple board put on my Fender! Jon is an incredible luthier, one of the very best and his work is always top notch. I agree, the maple board really sets off nicely against the body finish! Yummy!
  12. Chris - is it safe to leave the batteries in the transmitter? Will discharge be negligible? Just a question!
  13. My Dingwall AB1 with it's sexy curves does mean that it suffers in the same way as the Jazz pictured where there is little surface for the bug to attach to. I'll probably try the adapter approach too.
  14.
So what was the verdict when you tried it dood?
I'm really sorry! I've had a crap weekend of back-to-back work and other BS to deal with so I've not had an opportunity to put the cheeky chap through it's paces. That said, the playing I did do on Friday was actually tons of fun and I found the system behaved well on the 5ms setting. I meant to take it with me to the studio on Thursday, but I had to dash out the door. I will of course report back thoroughly in due course.
  15.
Well personally I don't buy bass cabs for anything other than to provide live sound reinforcement, the sound of the cab directly to ear is the only thing that matters, hearing it through another speaker doesn't tell me anything useful, kind of like watching an advert for a TV ... on another TV.
I do take your point there - indeed in some reviews I've spoken about the limitations of the medium we are using. However, the reviews aren't just about how a piece of equipment sounds. Those watching are interested in feature set, ease of use, functionality and in the case of a bass for example, how it feels to play. No one can tell you what you are hearing and how you feel about an instrument, so ultimately it's about getting out and trying it for yourself, But for those who want to start doing a bit of research, I guess it's not a bad place to start?
  16. I've had some really good responses from Fender recently too - I think I could have chatted with the same guy! Anyway, it's great to see such comprehensive information coming back. Hey Lojo, could we see some more pictures now that the link is dead? It seems you have a rather cool bass!
  17.
Funny you say that Dood as I was going to say the exact same thing. They REALLY suit my Jazz Bass. Seem to bring out the qualities I like even more so. It really sings with these strings.
Exactly that! I think it's the detail in the mid range I like. It hard to describe what I am hearing, but 'sings' is a good description!
  18.
Haha. This is a hint that Alex's proposed new bass amp might NOT be Class D.
Or, the modules he could use are the latest breed of D Class amplifiers with meaty power supplies. Interestingly I've been looking at the same modules for my own project that has been yet to start. I can't reveal anything just in case I don't have time..
  19. Yes! I'm a fan of the FlexSteels! - I still swap between different D'Addario strings, but they seem to really suit my Fender and are great on my 6er. Big thumbs up here.
  20.
Grangur found her again Dood... http://basschat.co.u...retender-no328/
Snapped up on eBay, I missed out on the auction. I suspect it is long gone now, but of anyone spots it out in the wild, do let me know!* *read as 'back on eBay'
  21.
True but I have a feeling it will be on ebay again in the near future?
Well, I'll keep an eye out! I'll ping a message in to the 'lost dogs' thread too.
  22.
And besides you would never play it as you probably have tons of sexy gear anyway lol
Still makes me wonder who bought though..
  23. If you're just demoing - is it that you specifically need multi-channel recording? I'd eevn venture down the route of getting something like the awesome Zoom Q8 - a stereo video recorder designed to handle loud music. Or for that matter even the older Q3HD can be picked up for next to no money these days AND you have video footage to go with it too.
  24.
It isn't - it's just having an amp that can do the amount of power you need for a full note length. With some of the optimistically specced Class D amps you might need a '900W' amp whilst a Class AB that can do its 300W continuously might have similar heft and loudness. But it isn't the Class D or Class AB thing that makes the difference, it's the power supply. The iAmp 800 was Class D with a traditional power supply. The Markbass LM2 was Class AB with an SMPS.
In the competition to make the smallest and lightest amplifiers I'd suggest that maybe power supplies were shrunk and squeezed in to confined spaces and thus may be unable to provide the power source required for that all important girth.
  25. Nawww shucks!!! Thank you very much for the kind words. I do try and in honesty there's so much I would like to offer in my reviews but there are certain limitations as you can imagine. (Time/Costs/Space etc) I hope that therefore what I do get over is helpful and worthy! One thing I try not to do is shred or unseat the viewer by fulfilling an ego trip or anything like that. I mean, I could treat you to a ten minute prog bass solo in 13/8 but that is definitely not what demos and reviews should be in my view. I love bass gear and I love doing reviews - I could play with this kit all day every day!
