1.
I think all cabs are coloured, I really don't buy into the whole flat response thing, some of the best cabs that I have played have been very "coloured"
I agree too. Completely flat response amps for example can sound bland in comparison unless you are getting your EQ elsewhere. A flat amp with a 'flat' cabinet can sound a bit weak and nasal in some circumstances. I have found that I prefer 'hifi' rather than flat response in nearly all cases. All cabinets are coloured, yup that's a fact. Some more so than others and to great effect I feel.
 2.
Hey Dood I haven't over reacted don't worry, I just woke up feeling a little mischievous this morning 😀 Just playing lol
Ooooooh you little monkey
 3. SiPhilips, how do you place your cabinets? Are you able to point it towards your ears or get it up high? Sometimes clarity is lost when we are pushed on to tight stages and we have little choice but to fire the sound out to our knee caps. I was wondering if you were having to do the same? As for lows, I do know the BB2 and PJB (to a point) don't have a baked in 'bump' in the lows. Maybe a cabinet with that could be the way to go? It would sound fuller from a flat EQ setting and pleasing to the ear. A bit like punching in the loudness button on hifi separates! If you can try one - and I haven't checked where you are, the Bergantino CN212 I think might be a nice solution. Or if you were near to me and wanted to stick to BF, I have a barefaced Big Twin II which I think would be stunning.
 4.
Absolutely ChrisB I had totally overlooked those things and have now come to my senses... clearly the op needs to learn how to use his amp correctly or even replace his amp altogether for one that is a little more flat response/honest/puts out what you put in/high efficiency/ louder than any other amp for the size and weight, and most importantly can push those very special custom made, top secret, state of the art drivers with unbelievably impressive Xmax and dispersion performance to their limit, it is inconceivable that someone would find a B*******d product not to taste!
I think maybe you've over reacted Ian as no one has started a row but it's a very good point and a place to start. The OP may well not have to buy anything new at all as the issues could be elsewhere. *trying* not buying an amp could help to discover this.
 5.
It's not that the barefaced is lacking , I'm looking for a cleaner /sparkly sounding cab. I also like to have a spare for emergencys. I have had issues in the past with gear breaking down and not having anything to use.
Cleaner than a BB2? My hunch is that the problem may be elsewhere in the signal path. The BB2 is only second to a nuns habit when it comes to being untainted.
 6. Stunning. That is all.
 7.
I recommend Lady Tena Pants... Discreet.
They'd Dood the job nicely...
 8.
I believe it can be quite a problem as one gets older...
Not so much a perfect excuse, but in some cases a complete surprise... NURSE!!!!!
 9.
Yes, nobody bothers you then. It's seen as dementia. They just bring you cocoa and ask if you've been to the lavatory.
Perfect excuse for having another P bass then I reckon! - "What love? Another? I didn't realise I had the last one, you know, what with my failing memory and everything... Well, it'd be a shame to have to take it back, I'll just keep it for a bit shall I?!!"
 10. Incidentally I use mine with TC BH800 which is also a very clean sounding amp.
 11. The EBS Billy Sheehan Signature Drive on its lowest setting I think fits the bill perfectly. The tone control is a sweep rather than just the usual 'top end roll off' and you get an EBS compressor and two effect loops thrown in too!
 12. So I stand corrected, Rolls came back to me to say that the SX21 has up to 24dB of gain!
 13.
Get the Source Audio Programmable EQ perhaps?
I've been reading up about it and I think it's a super cool pedal. Think I need to find one to try out!
 14.
Funnily, I am using the EBS Sheehan pedal, but there's not enough grit from stock for me. (Although the new Sheehan model being aired at NAMM apparently does have more gain). So, what I have done is put a dirt pedal (a tubescreamer) in the clean loop too for a stacked/parallel drive with more body. The EQ pedal is boosting the input level to get the saturation up - however, a straight 'boost' pedal isn't suitable as I need to carve away the low end going in. I really cant stand flubby and incoherent distortion. Just sounds rubbish I have to admit, I would have jumped on the Rolls SX21 and I even have a schematic for it, but I don't think it was going to offer the gain boost I need without having another pedal between that and the EBS. Who knows, maybe the new pedal will offer the saturation I wanted all along!! Finally, in case you maybe wondering where or my low end will have gone using the EQ to roll it off - all of the above is in the blend loop of a One Control Mosquite Blender pedal, which is an exquisite little piece of engineering!
Thinking about it, I'll shoot Rolls a message and see what they say. Though the Hot Glue Gun is looking like the cheapest solution!
 15.
Bloody kids! I bought my 76 in, er... 76. P.S. 40 is good. Just don't wait until you're 50 to decide you're going to do whatever you want to do, like I did.
he he he he!!! Little wippasnapper eh! Whereas I did make my choice to do what I want many years ago, I suspect I will be finally allowed to when I AM 50!!
 16.
Little dab of hot glue, flexible enough to peel off if you need to...
THAT is the answer! I think I'm going with this first. Good call!
 17.
As a matter of interest what is your current drive setup Dood? Have you tried using something like the rolls tiny crossover like Mr. Sheehan uses in the dirty loop of his signature pedal?
Funnily, I am using the EBS Sheehan pedal, but there's not enough grit from stock for me. (Although the new Sheehan model being aired at NAMM apparently does have more gain). 18.
Yeah... Don't see a problem with it based on what you've already said. I have Beedster's 70's Yamaha Pulsar incoming and other than being maple/ash (as opposed to my current rosewood/alder p) it's my year of birth bass I've been keeping an eye for for while and wanted before my 40th next year...
Snap! My '76 landed a few months ago. My birth year bass and i've just turned the big 40 this month. It's an Ash and Maple lawsuit bass and I adore it so much! Incredible instrument. My other 'precision' is a Power Jazz Bass Special from the 80's and is a completely different bass despite the similar outline.

 20. What an amazing opportunity! Especially as these new strings are rather good indeed!
 21. Brilliant, I've got a little job for it so I'll take it!
 22.
Put the pedal in a larger metal box and wire that box as a bypass pedal that bypasses the pedal inside the box ?
What's actually funny about this is that I was thinking about mounting all the pedals on a board with a clear perspex cover! Not totally enclosed but at least being able to ensure nothing was kicked. A bit like this idea:
 23.
Get the Source Audio Programmable EQ perhaps?
A pedal I would very much like to try actually!
 24. Oh yeah, and realise that there's way more to 'your job' than just playing bass. Don't pigeon hole yourself and see what else you can do. Remember, as much as you'd love to do this all for free, you are here to make money now, even if it is just enough to pay the bills.
 25. Go to school, learn how to be self-employed, learn how to run a business. Much like going to see a tutor to learn how to play bass, you learn so much more from 1-2-1 time with people who build businesses for a living. Yes, it may end up costing you, but hey, that's what expenses are for
