1.
Hi. What was your impression of the Retro Two Ten? I have one on order, should be here this week. Cheers.
I think my review video is also on YouTube now but as a 2x10 it's a nice lil cabinet. It is designed to have a different sonic signature to the Big Baby for example so it'd be wise to hear them both to see what suits better. For me, I was 'had at Big Twin II'!
 2. Chiming in to offer my endorsement - I recently had the pleasure of reviewing the Big Twin 2 and Retro Two Ten cabinets. I had the cabinets for a while to give them a good work out and I have to say the experience was a pleasurable one. I now own the very cabinet I reviewed and it has already gotten much use as my 'reference cabinet' for other reviews as well as of course backline for my band(s). Big articulate and very clean, I love how the cabinet shows up differences between different amplifiers and character of my selection of basses just like my studio monitors. At a snip over 20Kg and the ability to fill the stage with big, even sound - well, that means a lot to me. I'd love to get a pair of FR's to use for workshops, gigs and anything needing PA but for now the BT2 is coming with me everywhere! Interestingly, I've just received a nice old P bass. I plugged it in to this cabinet for the first time this morning. oh my oh my!!! Ash and Maple, what a lovely sound! Just like to say thanks to Alex. The Big Twin II is a bit 'spesh!
 3. Hi! I seem to remember reading posts from users that suggested that the 'tube' didn't seem to make a massive amount of difference to the tone of the amplifier. I've not compared the two myself but with or without, the LM heads have a great clean sound with plenty of bottom end boost.

 6. I'll get on that too! I will be using it for magazine reviews next week too so there will be video footage soon.
 7. It's here!!!! Expect some pictures soon!!!
 8.
That's one of the most 80s basses I've seen in a long time!
Thank you! It sounds amazing!!!!!
 9.
Also if you ever want to sell the preamp, give me a shout...
After hearing it with these pickups? Not a chance!! It's here to stay
 10. I have no idea why the pictures are upside down despite taking them the right way up!! Sorry all!
 11. It's a really bright sunny day today. I think the light is permeating through the flip paint layer making the bass look really pinky in the garden. In doors the finish is more like a metallic lake placid blue! I'll try to get that as a picture later.

I just need to find Le Dood sur Bass, Der Dood an den Bass, El Dood ... oh, and Dood on Lead would be good too!
I can only apologise, with a big smile Let me see what I can do Chris - most of my band mates are on the other side of the waters! (I do play lots of guitar too)
 15. Oh and just to say I know Jumanji very well - buy with absolutely confidence, this man is a TOP guy!
 16. Anyone remember 'Minky' basses from way back? They had some really cool hand 'etched' finishes that were coloured and stained to look like different types of stone. I thought it was kinda cool, but I've no idea where they are now!
 17. Great news! All the missing parts have been found! Thank you for all your help
 18.
The RM800 is loverly! It can do clean, dirty, the sub harmonic thing is nice and subtle even when maxed out, the EQ simple but effective, the line mix a stroke of genius when practicing, and the build quality is top notch. Very, very happy with it
Ey! Thank you - thats what I like to hear!!
 19.
It is lovely Its still available.......... Would also consider a trade on a Matrix power amp: http://uk.matrixampl...-amplifers.html
Ahhhh! My Matrix amp has long gone - also a great piece of kit!
 20.
So what do you consider a super tweeter. I am not asking for a particular technology rather what the frequency response of a good tweeter is. Also is there an argument for a Low Pass Filter before a tweeter? I wi be honest, putting a tweeter in a bass cabinet that extends to way over 20KHz seems crazy to me even fior slapping. So any ideas on what the top -3dB point should be for a tweeter? I have no real opinions myself, just trying to learn from other people.
I would suggest a tweeter that reaches downward to overlap the top end of the 12" driver rather than heading toward the stratosphere. A filter network can then be customised to better cross those points rather than a generic tweeter not being able to meet the 12" high output leaving a weird gap.
 21. Ah yes! The manual was actually helpful showing the icon on the back of your amp. You'll be pleased to hear that any two button latching footswitch with a stereo jack plug on the end will suffice! Something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/footswitch-2-button-latching-/131564538769?hash=item1ea1db8b91 or good ole marshall: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Marshall-Two-Button-Footswitch-Clean-Crunch-Overdrive-/161770966318?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item25aa4d0d2e
 22.
Real world you say? I have a 1000w Type A power amp which easily handles the lows. Then I sell it, and with half of that money buy a cheaper Type B 3000w power amp which handles those lows just as well. Great. My inner voice will be nagging me to buy the 3000w version of the Type A power amp, as it will be amazing. I'm now skint with an aching back, but happy.
GAS aside! - That's always a problem. I used to use a massive all valve 300W head that sounded amazing but weighed what seemed like a ton at 3am in the morning. I'd still like to own it, but you know, my back also says no!!
 23.
Dood, can you compare this to any commercial cab you have reviewed or used?
There certainly are similarities with some cabinets I have used or reviewed in the past but it'd be an unfair comparison at this stage. Also, the cabinet I took with me to the studio of my own to run up my 'usual rig' would be an unfair comparison. What I will say though and I appreciate what the point of this project in the first place is so possible outside the remit; If you are looking for a clear 'non-vintage' tone then I think the cabinet will need a midrange driver or a super-tweeter. If you are thinking of using lots of grit and want to make use of the speaker's natural roll off to soften the filth tone as not to sound brittle then this could work out pretty well! For me personally, I wouldn't apply cab sims (think Kemper / AxeFX / POSITIVE GRID) as the cabinet has a flavour of it's own that may give you unacceptable results - read as 'mushy'. Using distortion pedals and amplifier sims though I think this cabinet could do really well - especially in multiples stacked. Almost taking things from a guitarist view point who prefers to use his valve amp and cabinet configuration to create smooth distortion.
 24.
Is it a 2KHz upper-mid peak that people are hearing, or does the mid-forward character happen lower down? Could it be down to the cab having a relatively even response, where the lack of a bump around 100Hz and the relatively well controlled upper-mids make the content around 4-500Hz seem more noticeable than on most cabs? Not having heard it this is just a guess.
I have to say that no, it's not 2Khz for me. I haven't tested with RTA or anything but using my knowledge of electronics test gear, experience in the studio and being an uber gear geek, I can say with certainty that the midrange peak that I was hearing was much lower. I'd actually say 2Khz is more in to the treble regions than even high mids. I'd actually agree with what you are saying. Without the tweeter and a roll off of the lows, what is left is plenty of low mid range and mid range. It was less of a 'boxy' midrange sound though unlike some boxes I've tried.
