1.
My Glockenklang 2 band has that.
Yup I have a 2 band and the three band circuit featuring said function. A very good stock circuit too. I'd also recommend John East, nice preamps from an even nicer guy!
  2. I love the combination of the rich body colour and the maple fretboard. Yes, I like that a lot! I also think that putting the pickups underneath the chrome covers retains the vintage look along side the bug hefty bridge. I think I prefer that headstock over the Epi' one too, it seems to so with the body shape angles. Just me I guess. Congratulations Muzz. I do enjoy seeing Franken' basses and this one looks as if it were meant to be all along.
  3. TC Spectracomp by a good distance. It can be 'one of those' invisible pedals that does the job with transparency - sometimes not even noticing how much it's doing a good job. Pick another preset and it's a squishy full-band Ross type compressor, another preset and it leaves the lows alone and brickwalls high frequencies. I mean, in terms of flexibly and copying what pretty much every other compressor's USP is on the market.. for the money, it's crazy. I also have the Hypergravity which can do the same but has more control knobs on top.
  4. Having spotted that my donor bass has a reverse P pickup in it, it looks like the MM pickup can drop straight in to the MM sweet spot!
  5.
There's some info in this thread http://basschat.co.u...ss/page__st__30
You're a star! Yes, just what I need!
  6.
Yup and me, though it does depend on the stage/venue and monitoring. Or if I am wearing in-ears, of course!!
I also wanted to add that I am lucky to be able to share the stage with very talented drummers mostly who are able to get the best out of their kits without leathering the last bit of life out of them. Loud, but not stupid loud. Quiet, but not stupid quiet
  7.
Same way of thinking as Phil, for me.
Yup and me, though it does depend on the stage/venue and monitoring. Or if I am wearing in-ears, of course!!
  8. Nearly everything I've sold, either voluntarily or otherwise!!!
  9.
I'm thinking about getting a Bergantino B|Amp to match my Bergantino cabs - has anyone used one of these in a gig, and what do you think of them?
Has your wallet managed to burn a hole in your pocket yet?
  10. Excellent, thank you everyone. The next question I suppose is to ask where the pickup poles are! With reference to the 12th fret I suppose would be the best 'zero' point. I've a rough measurement of 35.5cm to the centre of the pole piece for the front coil and 38mm to the centre of the rear. Agreed?
  11. I'm sure there was a thread, or at least a discussion in a thread somewhere about the relative positioning across MM bass models of the single pickup. Now, logic would tell me that they are all in the same place, but, MM experts, are they? This is for a bit of a project idea and am just gathering 'data' as it were.
  12.
Cheers Dan, that's what EMG suggested too. Think I might go for either the P4X/CSX or P4X/JX combo, but still a shade undecided. The DC pickups don't seem to get a lot of love on here. Have you been able to compare X and non-X EMGs as yet?
DC's are one of my favourite actually! - They are raspy and are not dissimilar to a MusicMan pickup in sound. I think the CS pickups are smoother in the top end and some have said less of a bump in the tone (mids) but I can't test that myself to say for sure. I have a couple of basses with the normal EMG P and J style active pickups (not in soaps bars) and I love them. I've found that the Glockenklang 3 band Pre pairs really well with EMGs too. As for comparing the X series - I've not had a chance, but I think I am more likely to go with the non-X versions judging by what others have said about them. That's in no way derogatory, they are just different. As I 'know' the non-X versions and certainly not in any position to shell out £150 for a set of X series, I will stick with what I am familiar with in case the X -Series doesn't do the same!
  13. You'd need a type for four strings so that each blade aligns properly with the strings, regardless of shell size.
  14. Yeah I think they are both the same - a P5X label would tell you that the coils are arranged for 5 strings, so unsure what the '4' is in the model name for.
  15.
Nice to see someone organising and trying to recruit into the MU
Well, for the yearly subscription, it might just save someone being ripped off - or indeed having advice and legal support when dealing with professional contracts.
  16.
My band have our first WMC club gig soon, and I'd like your interpretation on their fees.
I would also run this by your local MU rep if you have joined - and if you haven't, join. There's lots of advice to be had from them as well as help with contracts etc.
  17.
I have 2xHD112 so I'm guessing the combo would work very well - Berg have a downloadable profile for these cabs
It's onboard the amp already - and I would love to hear that very set up. The B|Amp has just been updated to include an adjustable compressor and three types of drive too. With those, the parametric EQ, adjustable HPF, adjustable bright switch, feedback filter (for acoustic players) and all the usual connections, it's hard to beat. Runs down to 2 Ohms as well with a special selector via the onboard processor that sets the cooling up for the extra amp load.
  18. It's also very well behaved with other cabinets as the profiles are bypass-able - in case anyone was thinking it couldn't be used with anything other than Bergs.
  19. In short though, yeah, it's brilliant. Love it. Really clean, detailed top end and great punch. Engineers loved the DI tone and I've had some really nice compliments when depping for bands too. As for the amp itself, I've always had a pang for a decent parametric EQ and the speaker profiles to my ears work very well.
  20. There's a review on the Bergantino Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/bergantinoaudio/?fref=ts
  21.
Hi everyone, I can't seem to find a set of original specs for my 2006 Jag, as I want a new set of strings. Does anyone know what gauge I should be fitting? Thanks, Dario
Fender tend to fit 45-105 nickel plated steel round wounds as standard, so that's a good place to start, but you are of course not stuck with only being able to use that gauge specifically.

    Compressors

For clarity in harmonics, a multiband compressor - and a good one at that will be a good choice. The TC Spectracomp with the addition of the free TonePrint editor software is hard to beat. The algorithms on board are lifted from TC's own highly regarded studio rack systems. I use multi band compression because I need to be able to have deep pounding bass at times, but still hear chords, melody lines and indeed harmonics ringing out but without the side effects of heavy compression. The cool thing about Spectracomp though is that if you want CS-2, Ross, EBS style compression characteristics, well, it'll do that too
  24.
I'll almost certainly be there, even if there's evening gigs to play . Great hang! Si
It's the only time we get to see each other I'll be there I am sure - hopefully a bit more 'with it' this year!
  25. Great thread! I've a 70's RI (A) neck waiting for a body. Think I'm going with a natural Alder body for the 80's John Deacon look. My neck's pocket width is 64.2mm so I'll be looking at an RI body. GuitarBuild do RI pockets which is brilliant but I'm out of sheckles to afford one right now!
