Just ordered one of these from Amazon. Going to use it into the effects return of my Ashdown and get all my eq from the pedal. Any one else use it this way and have you any tips? I play in an acdc covers band so looking for some rock and even some roll!

Looking at your gear list Bob, your Fenders are basses that most of us on here would be more than happy to play on any gig. It seems a strange thing for you tutor to say but if it works for you, more power to ya.

Cozy was, and still is, my all time fav drummer. Good to see kudos going his way.

Steve Harris sig. model vs Fender P bass MIM, which one to get?
Did you play SH bass?
Nah. The neck is too wide for me and I hate those rotosound strings that Steve uses. -

Steve Harris sig. model vs Fender P bass MIM, which one to get?
Oh, absolutely! But, if I want something that's hard to find, I'm willing to compromise a bit when I do find it. The fix is not much harder than changing the strings. Would you pass on a bass you really wanted because the action wasn't set to your liking? Of course, you can use it as a bargaining point and might save some £££
I would like to point out that having visited GG the other day, the bass now looks fine. The only problem was I walked out with a Nate Mendel P bass! -
chances are it's just a minor neck misalignment, easily sorted. It's not uncommon, and all it takes is loosen up the neck screws a bit, realign, and carefully tighten the screws again. A very minor shift can look terrible and make it seem the bass is all wrong.
Totally agree with you but at the price they are charging, I would be wanting it spot on. -

The SH sig in I saw last week in GG in Glasgow, has a problem with the neck or the bridge being out of line. Its not horrendous but its noticeable. Lovely looking bass apart from that. -
Eminence Beta 15 inch 8ohms 300 watts rms speaker. Bought in March this year to put into a BG250 combo after the amp section had went up in smoke. My intention was to run this as a cab alongside a Mag 2x10 but I never needed the extra power so it hasnt been used. The original TC Eminence speaker was 4 ohms so I needed an 8 ohms one to hook up the 2 cabs. I would prefer local collection from Paisley or my workplace in the Kingston Bridge area of Glasgow. I have a Ashdown Mag 300 2x10 for sale. I picked it up last year for £100 which seemed like a bargain. Got it home and found that there is a "static" sort of noise coming through the speakers. It`s not a loud noise but is there all the time. It didn`t bother me as I hooked my old Mag head up to the cab and have used it on quite a few gigs. The cab is a bit tatty and some of the carpet covering is torn on the bottom of the cab but the grill looks okay apart from a few scratches and the cab has performed well. If you are handy with amps or just want to use the cab, it is ideal. It is not perfect and the price reflects this. I will get some photos up asap. It is collection only from Paisley or my workplace in the Kingston Bridge area of Glasgow. On getting this out, I remembered I had put my nick name on it at the back Very rock n roll!! ****ACTUAL PHOTOS BELOW****

I had a Squier, bought about 2003, that was a midnight wine sort of colour but it looked like a kind of metallic finish.

I think that part of the problem is in the 50`s, 60`s and 70`s, there wasnt the abundance of good quality, well priced basses available like we have now and Fender had most of the market. And there wasnt the internet for players to bitch to each other how bad some of those Fenders were. Now most of us have heard stories of how bad Fender qc can be, although I have never owned a "bad" one. Compare this to the recent Squier models which, on the whole, seem to be very good value compared to their US cousins at around a third of the price. I have a VM77 Jazz bass: it`s great to play and have gigged it several times and will do in the future. If it sounds and feels good, I don`t give a baboons backside which name is on the headstcok.

My 3 decent basses all have black Schaller straplocks. I have 2 straps, one black and long, the other brown and big and wide.

Thats what I meant Discreet but you said it so much better

There is nothing worse than doing a gig with band members that you are not confident can do the biz. Been there and baled out sharpish. There is nowhere to hide when you are playing for the public.

Any suggestions of good simple basslines to learn?
jezzaboy replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
If you know where to find B then AC/DC’s Livewire is more or less sorted. Cliff Williams deliberately keeps his bass lines simple so virtually any AC/DC is a good starting place.
Agreed, plus they are loads of fun! The live version of let there be rock is good for the right hand stamina. Of course, you could be a Boyzone fan -
Pawn Shop Mustang. Kicks the butt of a P bass as well

This was in the recycle pages but no one wanted it for no money I don`t actually want any money for it but had to put in a value. It is in okay nick, all the catches work, it is a bit rough in places, has a nice furry interior, a few stickers from previous escapades put on by a former owner. I don`t use cases and it has been sitting neglected and doing the missus head in, so it has to go. You can collect it from my home in Paisley or at my work during the day in Kingston bridge estate. Please don`t make me Gumtree it!!

A local Glasgow store owner told me a few years ago he sold 10 guitars to 1 bass. Easy economics. Having said that, Glasgow, being the major city in Scotland , is well served.

I had a TRBX 304 and whilst it is a good bass, I fell out of love with the sound of it rather quickly and moved it on. I have bought a few of the cheaper Ibby SR models and moved them on as well. I would not buy another "cheap" active bass again. If you aren`t happy with the bass, return it now and get something else.
