1. BB That`s a shameless thing, using your daughter and her pal for a bump, It`s a lovely looking bass and BB is a great guy to deal with. I see that the T bass is up for sale. You are just as bad as me!! Jez
2.
I would love to casually mention to someone playing that monstrosity, I think your tuning is a little out ... and retire swiftly out of arm's reach
You wouldn`t need to worry about being out of arm`s reach Clarky. Anyone who played it for 10 mins would be so knackered just having the thing slung over their shoulder that they wouldn`t have the energy to lift an arm to thump you! That has to be the most bizzare guitar I have seen. You would need a mortgage to buy a set of strings. Jez
3. Books. Ac/dc chord book Ronnie Wood Chubby Brown Lots of grateful dead stuff Jimmy Nail Monty python Flying burioto brothers Paul Diano Don Felder of the Eagles William Shatner And some others... Dvd Alfred Hitchcock 6 DVD box Kissology part 2 And an AGV hot rod m/cycle helmet. Rather garish paint job, size 58-medium/large, good condition, never dropped. Has a removable liner and has sat in its bag for 2.5 years. It has a tinted anti fog visor fitted. Cost 130 quid 3 years ago so it`s not that bad a lid. If you are intrested in any of the above, give me a pm. jEZ
4. Guys, thanks for all the super helpful tips and links. What`s the betting I spend time gettin it right and turn up at the studio and one of the plonkers, sorry bandmates, says they don`t fancy it! Jez
5. Our band want to have a go at uprising by Muse, even though we don`t have a keyboard player. Hmmmm.... I`ve got the chords but how does the guy play the bassline? I looked at a couple of live clips and he doesn`t seem to be playing the notes an octave apart (if that`s the right term for playing the D on the A string then the D on the G string) if you get my drift. Or is he just doing it really quick? How do some of you do it? Would the sub harmonic setting on my Ashdown do the job? Also I`ve got a EH Bigg Muff would that do for the sound? Any advice/dogs abuse will be appreciated! Jez
6. Got to agree with OTPJ Clarky. I bought a set of fat beams, 45-105 after Rich was raving about them. Stuck them on my US P bass and it transformed the sound. It even sounds great through my sh*t*y Marshall practice amp. I was going to punt the P but it is such a cracking looking bass that I decided to try the strings and it was well worth the £30 they set me back. Now I wouldn`t consider using anything else! Jez
7. Lovely bass Clarky. Nothing looks better than Pete Way on stage thrashing his T bird to within an inch of it`s life! Jez
8. Gawd, those German burds don`t age well!! Jez
9.
I saw Nena, talk about a bloody mime act! The band didn't even bother to make it look like they were playing! Shame there was no Tony Butler with an Aria! Or even a Warwick Thumb!
Do you know what I remember about Nena and her bloomin 99 balloons....She was on some other programe and she had some kind of shirt on and she had hairy, and I mean seriously hairy, armpits!!! Jez Ps Tried to find a photo of said armpits but couldn`t. Just for old times sake.
10. I`m watching this even though most of the music made in the 80`s is the spawn of the devil, to check out the bass guitars. So far I`ve seen Nick Begs of Kajagoogoo`s Wal and now it`s Pino with his Stingray fretless. What`s next? Some right dodgy barnets going on there!! Jez
11. No probs Geoff, if it`s still here you are welcome to it. Jez
12. Stanley tool chest with wheels and a carry handle. I used it for all the pa cables and used to sit my amp on it. Good condition. Collect from Paisley. Jez
13. I saw this picture on Talkbass (forgive me I was bored!). This was from a thread about a guy who has owned the Jazz he`s playing for 40 years. Now I know you can`t see the bass but I just think that it`s a cracking photo. Better than playing a sweaty gig down the dog and duck. Jez
14. To Edward H: Regarding the not too complex line. Just had a look through our set list. There are 53 tunes on it from the 60`s to now and we are strictly a pub band, no functions. That`s a lot of music to learn and perfom to a good standard, good enough that your band gets asked back again. Jez
15. As it says, 20 odd editions of bass guitar mag. From 2006 till now. Must collect, just drop me a pm and we can arrange it. If no one wants em by the end of the week, then to the great recycle bin in the sky they go......... Jez
16. Forget it, talking nonsense!!! Jez
17. Been to that party before. It usually happens when someone new takes over and as the op states, the new guy bumps people off for his mates/bands he has worked with. Whilst it `s a sh*t*y way to treat people, I try and not get too upset about these things. If you let it get to you, it just eats away. There`s always the next gig to look forward to. Jez
18.
No story, just saw an opportunity for a stupid comment.... sorry!
Boooooo, Boooooo!!! Can you not just make one up? Jez
19.
I've only got two now, one fretted and one fretless, and it's actually quite nice. Amazing how much you can squeeze out of a bass when it's your only choice C
Well said the man in the corner with pair of lovely P`s!! I`ve got 4 at the mo and really I only need 2. One main and a spare for gigs. At one point I had 9 but have come to my senses! The only man with more basses than talent.
20. I call my Fenders......... Fred, because my hero Spike Milligan liked the name Fred. Jez
21. Playing a gig a few weeks ago, I noticed this guy staring at the band. I`m saying to meself, he`s a muso, I can tell by his look. He comes up at the break and says that whilst our choice of tunes are quite good, the drummer is crap and the sound from the pa needs more "mids". Now, I have never met this guy, he doesn`t know me. We know the drummer ain`t that good but he`s a great guy and a mate and most of the time he does ok. Rather politley, he was told where to go The last thing you need is some smarta*s telling you something you already know, especially if you don`t know the guy is. Jez
22.
Oh which tracks should we nominate? "Keep it Greasy"?
Nah! "Baby take your teeth out" would be a good shout. Jez
23. I wouldn`t get too hung up on the theory side (although it`s no bad thing) for a pub covers band. What to do is go on as many band websites as possible and check out the material that seems to be the most popular, then familiarise yourself with it. But I reckon you will need a combo of around 200-300 watts. Don`t depend on a covers band having a big enough pa for you to play through. Hopefully someone in the band will be able to help you out transport wise but for a lot of bands, own transport is a must. Best of luck anyway. Jez
24. That`s amazing that you can keep a bass for 45 years. I usually get rid of em after 45 days! I like the pic from 65. How I wish that our drummer used a kit that size. Jez
25. Thanks for the nice comments guys, all pm`s replied too. Jez
