1.
Recently picked up a strymon bluesky, had a little mess around before work yesterday with the intention of recording on my day off today but i sliced my bloody finger in work so no bass for me for a couple of days! Here is the noodle anyway, really enjoying this pedal. https://soundcloud.com/asambique/blue-1/s-N4ii5
It sounds really nice!
 2.
Do you ever get an idea for piece of music that sounds great in your head but wouldn’t it be nice if you could actually play it? That’s this months noodle. I thought it up at the start of the month but it’s taken a couple of weeks to get my fingers round it. It’s not a perfect performance of it, but it’s close – and I’m running out of time. Cort Curbow 4:1 Generic rounds (cheap from Amazon) all strings detuned a semitone from standard. Into Audacity then compressed and normalized. Enjoy (or not) https://soundcloud.com/agwin/octonoodle
Would of been cool too see that played maybe?
 3.
Just reading the first post - is the AG500 class D or class A? :-)
Class d with some interesting tech inside class t they called it. And a traditional toroidal power supply and large capacitors!
 4. The ag500 is a good amp and does have a class d power section with traditional toroidal power supply and huge capacitors too. I had one and I did think it had heft etc but maybe its overall volume wasn't as good as other 500w heads of mainly class a/b but then again the ag500 is getting on a bit now. Also the sc version imo sounded horrible when the gain was pushed. Possible one of the nicest built amps overall I've seen though. I still find that my 350w @ 4ohm bugera bvp5500 (svt 3pro clone) tube and class a/b head is as loud as the class d amps of around 500w ive tried. I don't like its 19kg weight though. Soon class d amps will be truly on par with older tech I feel, they just need maybe another 1 or 2 generations more of r&d imo. Some people may feel they have already reached that point but to me and many others it seems not. And I'm deffinetly not a class d hater.
 5.
It use to be easy for me back in the 70s. You had a bass, an amp with 3 parameters, volume, bass and treble.. Now It's really hard for me. An amp with highs, lows, mids, contour, presence, boost , gain woofer and tweeter parameters. Add to that a bass with active pre amp for treble and bass boost. Oh and a fully loaded pedal board. I won't even look at the parameters on my cabs. If I dial in something good it's pure luck. Should I go back to the 70s where I belong? Blue
I thought you played a hofner, p bass etc and an ampeg b15. Or is that in my imagination lol.
 6.
Which is why the answer should be the bass..because that is your initial connection between and being heard. The bass set-up is very personal to me..and I wouldn't bother with a lot of people's basses...which is funny because when they play mine, they really like it... but in terms of set-up they are miles apart. I'm thinking why don't they work on the set-up... but they seem to accept them straight out of the box with the same strings from yester-year..and they don't even know what strings they are..?? I don't get this ..??
Some people really can just pickup and play anything as long as the setup isn't tottaly stupid so to say. Some people are not as sensitive. A bit like people who can play any neck size or radius fingerboard. Also some people can still get a decent sound out of ancient strings. I myself could of easily said bass first too. But I choose cab. Anyhow regardless of bass, amp or cab DONT FLATWOUNDS MAKE US ALL SOUND THE SAME!?..... ;D I'm joking btw
 7. For me it would seem like the cab is the most important part. If you have a dog of an instrument a good player can work around it and its hard to get a bad sounding instrument these days. And if you have a not so good but fully functioning amp there's a good chance you could find a basic setting that would just about work or using in conjunction with fx etc assuming its of the right power required. However if you have a rubbish cab then it doesn't matter what you do the sound will always be bad. And although cabs have improved it seems an area where you should spend that little bit extra. Not that I'm saying there are not good budget cabs but there does seem a larger gulf between a cheap cab and a high end one. Than comparing instruments and amps. That's my opinion anyway.
 8. Looking for peoples own views on which part of there kit is most important to them. Obviously you can argue and rightly so the whole package is as well as who is playing it. But if you had to pick from your instrument, amp or cab which one do you think is the most important and why.
 9.
In what way are they different? Drivers' performance does alter when broken in compared to brand spanking new, and these changes are permanent: bass response can go down a few more Hertz, sensitivity up a bit, etc, (the suspension frees up). Fresh out of the box is not what you end up with unless you never turn up the wick.
The thiele specs on blue aran for that driver are different to what the manufacture lists. I based my cab tuning on those specs listed on bluearan which according to the manufacture are wrong.
 10. I'm not sure if this is cause for a refund part or in full, exchange or nothing. The other day I bought a driver from bluearan great quick service no complaints. However the thiele parameters for the driver are different to the ones published on the manufactures site. For the exact same product. Ive asked for a clarification from bluearan as I know obviously specs can change. But if the specs (thiele parameters) published on there site were indeed wrong, then as I based my purchase on there info, and made the cab tuning based on there specs, then would I have grounds for an exchange, refund or part refund or nothing at all for the driver?
 11. If using vocal only pa then isn't everything going through the pa anyhow due to a slight bleed???. I'm only kidding btw! Lol
 12.
Hi all Here's my effort, or lack of, this month: https://soundcloud.com/julian-moss-511168525/slow-burning-joke It's a bit all over the place playing-wise, and the vocals have come out more mockney sounding than I thought they would. In my defence, I did live in Watford for 35 years...
I Really enjoyed this track! Was cool listening to the isolated bass in the noodle thread. Yes there was a accent "mockney" thing going on but it suited the composition as a whole. On a side note it kinda reminded me of a tune you would hear in a mighty boosh episode sung by the cockney hitcher if that means anything to you.
 13.
I started trying to do an entry for the Comp Chall, but this: https://soundcloud.c...8525/oct-noodle and some drums is all I've got down so far , so at the moment, it's just a noodle...
Excellent noodle. I even went over to the composition thread to have a listen to your main composition. Which I really liked also. Was interesting listening to the isolated bass (noodle first) then how it sounded in the mix. Great Halloween inspiration.
 14.
That's interesting because one of my guitarists uses the HB 2x12 guitar cabs because of the good drivers they come with (making the cabs great value for money)!
I'm guessing and this is just a maybe that bass drivers by nature work harder and being the frequencies they cover etc etc that there are some elements a bit harder to design right. Ive just replaced a Harley benton driver after thinking it was broken for a Fane one. There was nothing wrong with the HB driver in the end and it sounded ok I wouldn't call them rubbish just not as good as other brands models. The Fane I replaced it with does sound a bit better.
 15. Urgh I thought I had a blown driver in a isobaric cab I had bought then converted it into a single speaker, it was badly designed and the rear speaker needed to be cut out with an angle grinder! The guy had made it totally impossible to take out the rear speaker! The drivers were just a cheap one (Harley bentons). There seemed to be an odd little farting noise like a blown speaker. Only on the low notes though. So I bought a better driver that matched what I needed (fane sovereign 10 300). Sounded great but the noise was still there possible worse. So all yesterday I chewed on trying to find this noise. Turns out air was escaping via the rear handle and even tho the cab is ported it was still enough pressure to make a noise and I could just about feel it coming out the carpet. The handle does not fit very flush with the cab as its one of those right angle ones. So out with the sealer and the noise appears to be gone. Weird how it sounded just like the cone though. So anyhow I guess I've upgraded the driver I suppose and it does sound better now that the cabs tuning is working correctly. But I didn't need the faff on or the expense at all.
 16.
Not sure! Was around £1000 new so I guess UK.
I believe these are made in the UK. And were a limited edition anniversary range. I had one and it was indeed a UK one.
 17.
A wise google translation should of said. "Often musicians and any Poser express derogatory first if you arrive by Harley Benton equipment" Hahaha.. If you want to move more air go for the 15's.. i know everyone talks about the 10's v 15's v 12's thing, but in real life with this brand and spec of cabs the 15 will put out more low end...if thats what you like!!!
Haha
 18. Well here is my noodle, think I've ripped of a nirvana line and a black Sabbath one lol. I recorded it first on an Epiphone tbird Classic but it sounds terrible when recorded, it mainly picked up the string noise and very scooped, I have a poorly speaker which made it worse. So recorded it with the Jim fleeting custom with chromes on and it sounded much better, less string noise but also its nordstrand big singles are not as powerful as the Gibson tb+ pickups in the Epiphone. Going to ask Santa for better recording equipment than the iPad which tbh does a crap job and loves to record string noise and higher frequencies rather than bass lol. https://soundcloud.com/user-531446910/october-noodle-jf Here is the tbird version for comparison. But it's the above I'm entering not this one https://soundcloud.com/user-531446910/october-noodle-tbird
 19. Could it not be your sealed hartke cabs not reproducing the lower frequency as well as the others? Just a thought btw. Have you tried the bass through other amps/cabs.
 20.
Thanks everyone, it also seems people are using both the 1x15 and 2x10 together. Would that have any benefits over either 2 1x15s or 2 2x10?
Not really any benefit, most will argue that you should use matched speakers.
 21.
It is a barometer of sorts, too. If someone can play Rhythm Stick, they can play a bit. A bass line which is harder than it sounds.
I say this as someone who can't play rhythm stick. But surely there many many famous great bass players who couldn't also play it and could more than "just play a bit"? Just like many famous bass players can't slap etc. But back to the original question, to me there are loads of pinnacle bass lines some complex some very simple. Potrait of Tracey is up there I think.
 22. I wonder how could they have got the truss rod cavity so wrong? Probably won't make too much difference anyhow. Looks like it might be cool to mess around with, swap the electrics etc. Shame it isn't a neck through.
 23. Lovely bass!
 24. P and jazz, musicmaster. Cool but imo your missing two iconic basses. Which have there own qualities which you can buy cheap and are much like there expensive counterpart. Hofner ignition violin bass. Completely hollow like the original, and does have that hofner sound more than the mid range versions do imo. Epiphone thunderbird classic. Has the gibson USA pickups, nearly identical construction/materials. Sounds just like the last model gibson did. I think then you have all the "iconic" bass tones covered and each sound different from one another. Shame epiphone don't do a decent eb0.
 25. The 2x10 is supposidly based on a Eden design with just enough changes not to be sued. Its supposed to be decent ply wood. And well built. Most people replace the drives with delta 10a eminance ones. The standard drivers are very average at best they get the job done but I doubt they would last a good hammering too often. I know this as I bought two drives from said 2x10 cab. But with your mb head I think they would last. I bet its a good deal for the price if there not being hammered will do the job for a bit. Again your amp I doubt would damage them. They have better specs than some lower end ashdown cabs. Higher spl etc. The 2x10 is the one to get apprently.
