Dan bought a compressor pedal from me. Instant payment and great communication throughout. cheers Alex

Never been a rush fan, but I’m going to have to give Them a decent go after that! I’ve always known they were top musicians but didn’t expect them to be that good. Geddy’s tone was fantastic - he seems to hit the strings with some force

Hi All, acquired a used American ultra jazz bass recently. I have found the bridge pickup is cutting out. You can get it to come back on with a wiggle of the pickup. what’s the most likely reason for it to be cutting out? Loose solder joint maybe? should I attempt to fix it myself given that I’m novice with this type of thing and it’s an expensive bass that I don’t want to brick! It’s also active to complicate things further cheers Alex

I’m completely open to not having a monitor, in fact it’d be my preference - the less I have to spend the better right? It’s interesting because in my years of gigging pubs to concert halls I honestly can’t remember not having a monitor firing at least the vocal back toward the band. The setup I was thinking of would have been 2 speakers and a monitor - hardly a tonne of gear. But if we can do it with just 2 speakers then even better.
-
I may be wrong here, but Pa speakers usually sit in front and pointing away from the band. Is it not hard to hear the singer if you don’t have a monitor. I honestly can’t remember playing a gig without a monitor so I just assumed you needed one

Cheers for the advice guys. looks like a pair of active speakers and mixer is probably a good way to go. What’s everyone using for monitors?

My band are looking to gig soon and we need a PA. The band is drums, bass, 1 guitar (and on the odd occasion 2) 1 Main Vocal, & 1 backing vocal. Playing rock covers (Stones, who, Jam, etc). The gigs will usually be in pubs an the most likely setup for the PA is going to be Main Vocal, backing vocal and a kick drum going through it. There is also potential for guitar to go through it as the guitarist has just moved to a kemper but the intention is he will use his own cab. Do you think one of the tower PA systems will be man enough for the job - I'm thinking something like the Yamaha stagepas 1k or similar. I like the idea of something portable, because, as bass players we have enough to carry already and we get annoyed carrying stuff we do not directly benefit from! Any advice will be greatly appreciated Thanks

Should be sorted with this now. Thanks for the advice though

Keep an eye on musik productiv- they had rootmaster 500 for £250 last week, brand new delivered. over the last year or so they have had some excellent deals on Ashdown gear

Hi guys, quick question, I have a head with one speakon output on it. If I want to connect 2 cabs to it I assume I’ll need a speakon y splitter cable. Is that correct? N.B I have no link options on the cabs cheers, Alex

Sold Rik a pedal. Pleasure to deal with and he let me know the pedal arrived. Thanks

Done a trade with Sam with a halfway meet up. Top guy and super easy to deal with

This looks an interesting offering from Ashdown https://ashdownmusic.com/products/lb-30-2-n Tube amp that doesn’t need to be connected to a cab & has its own speaker emulation built in. I think it may be the best looking head they’ve come up with too.

No need to apologise - appreciate your help

Thanks for the recommendation, I spotted those and they did look like good value and pretty much what I was expecting in terms of price. Only problem is I wanted angled head at both ends.

Hi Guys I was expecting to be able to get a load of replacement pedal power cables (male - male right angled) easy and cheap. Either I’m searching the wrong thing or these are a little harder to come by than I imagined. For a single cable it’s around £3 - £6. It’s almost worth buying a cheap power supply just for the cables. can anyone recommend any inexpensive sites where I can pick these up? Or is the price ‘the price’! cheers Alex

Sold Chris a chorus pedal. Fast payment & superb comms throughout. Thanks

Yep it did sound great. First time I’ve heard it through a cab with a tweeter too & the top end sounded great! May end up regretting selling that one! They have such a distinctive sound and are instantly recognisable. I liked to scoop the mids slightly and boost the bass. I’d also knock off a bit of the treble with new strings to get rid of the clank

Lozz just bought my MM Stingray bass. Thoroughly nice chap and a pleasure to deal with. I hope you enjoy the bass.

Yeah, I was really surprised. The stage was completely open though in a field. I’m trying to recall if I’ve ever played a completely open stage before and whether it was the same. The drummer is a reasonably loud hitter too. Maybe it was too hot for him today and he took it easy!

Going back to volume, I played an outdoor gig today with only vocals and kick drum going through the Pa. Barely needed any volume for my 2x15 cabs to keep up. This surprised me, I guess this is due to it being completely out in the open & nothing for the drum sounds to bounce off? im normally around 10 o’clock-ish here’s my settings (input gain about 3 o’clock)
