Music You Tubers, the good, the bad and the ugly
alexa3020 replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Proves my point really. Amazing playing and skills on show over a simple drum beat. Reasonably entertaining but very gimmicky. If that's on my playlist I'm skipping. Get him in a band with some musicians of a similar calibre and you might get something special! maybe. -

No doubt he is an incredible player and I find some of his videos quite entertaining, I cant help but think he is wasting his talents on these videos. I'd like to hear him play in a really great band with a great drummer. Perhaps he's already done this but it hasn't shown up on my radar yet. Maybe Youtube is the best way for talented musicians to make decent money now - which is a bit sad really. -

Plus one for Pat Finnerty Also like Dead Wax, Drumeo, That Pedal Show -
That's exactly what it did - all the flabby mids that seemed to be getting in the way, it removed. Similar thing with the sansamp bass Di for me - I've got quite a mid rangey bass & it gets rid of the unwanted frequencies
-
Spent the day at the recording studio, going through various ampeg amp Sims. Wasn't 100% happy with the tone. Re-amped the Di through the Ashdown and a trace 410, shape on and slightly boosted mids, and that was it - the sound I was after and so much better than what I had before. I've never usually engaged the shape button live, but it worked so well recording I might have to start using it live.

Traded a TC head for a markbass head with Kim. Easy hassle free deal. Many thanks

Great amps

Yep headphone out is on the back. Good overview here:

I prefer the silver cloth on the RM cabs, compared to the previous styling. £335 for the 115 seems quite reasonable too https://ashdownmusic.com/products/rm-115t-evo-iii

How cool do these new rootmaster and original heads look 10/10 from me on cosmetics. The RM has cab Sims too. I think they should have done the ABM Evo 5 in the same style. That said, here's an ABM with a blue/gray facia. Looking cool. Prefer it to all black

I don't mind, in fact I think I got the answer reasonably early on. I just wish I could keep up with the conversation - it's a bit like trying to get a chimp to understand... Well speaker cabinet design I suppose 😂 Appreciate everyone that's commented

Is the RMS power rating for an amp head based on everything at max including EQ?
-
I had a really good online experience with them, after I received some faulty Fender goods. They were super helpful in getting the issue resolved.

This is becoming quite an interesting thread. I have decided to power the speaker with a markbass LM3 500w instead of a tc bh800. I'm slightly more comfortable with a lower wattage amp although I know I still have to be really careful and use my ears for any distortion because the amp is still possibly overpowered. The aim for this rig is to use it as an alternative lightweight rig for when playing smaller venues or when I know I'll have decent PA support and I just need to use it for monitoring onstage. I played a gig in my local pub and my current rig was overkill. Ideally I would have got a higher rated speaker, but I didn't want to spend huge amount and the cab came up fairly locally & speaker sounded plenty loud enough when driven by a GK MB200.

I picked this up in a trade around a year ago. I was going to use a lightweight alternative to main rig. Only problem is I've picked up a lightweight 200w 4ohm cabinet. I have been assured it will pair ok with the cab (providing I don't crank it) but in all honesty I'd be a little more comfortable with something that has less power (I'm thinking 300-500w range). Must be lightweight. If you're interested, let me know what you have to trade. Cheers, Alex

Cheers guys

800w class D into a 200w 4ohm Cab is not a good idea right ? However... Will I get away with it if the head is not cranked. The head is a TC BH800 (renowned for overexaggerating wattage) and did I read something about not having to worry so much when dealing with class D heads? Thanks Alex

The valve drive is quite a nice low gain overdrive and adds warmth, I definitely wouldn't describe it as being able to do high gain or distortion. The bass channel did quite a good demo of the ABM Evo 4 300w (which I'm not sure they make anymore?) recently. It'll give you a good idea
-
For Evo 4 it's ABM 600 & 1200 For Evo 3 it's ABM 500 & 900 Pretty sure that's correct
-
I do prefer the Evo 4, I think the eq is better, a bit crisper & clearer and cuts through the mix better with more control of the high mids. As for how it would sit in a metal band I don't know. Cuts through nicely in my heavyish rock band. Remember with ABM 900 or 1200 it's 2 different power sections so you can connect 4 speakers in total, you can't for example get the full 1200w to one 4 ohm cab
-
Interesting a quick search online only shows me non wide evo 3 heads. Perhaps it is a repurposed combo head - they were wide with extra vents
-
I didn't think the evo iv had a 900w version. Theres an Evo 3 900w version (2 power sections again)
-
With the Evo iv range the wide heads are 1200w (2x600w power sections). Not sure about Evo 3
