Is there much difference in dispersion etc, if I stack a tweetered 210 vertically (tweeter top center between the 2 10 inch drivers when cab horizontal)? I don't hear a huge difference standing next to it.

Stick a back plate on and itll look better & might be useful to store cables, etc.

Best lightweight head and cabs for Reggae?
alexa3020 replied to Marcus Cornall's topic in Amps and Cabs
@Marcus Cornallsounds like you are at the start of a journey most of us have been through (and are still on). I certainly didn't get it right first time and I'm guessing it's the same for many others. I think some excellent advice here, particularly from Bill. I think the most important thing is to trust your ears and go and listen/play through some of these cabs. I bought some high end cabs and on paper they were perfect (and others absolutely love them), but I really didn't like them. I ended up with cabs at a fraction of the price and I'm pretty pleased with them. Of the cabs I tried, the Aguilar dB range seemed to go pretty low. They are heavy, but they do have a lightweight range - I haven't tried those yet. I've always found the markbass stuff pretty good too. -
Just a quick question, I've bought some additional feet and am looking to stack my cabs vertically - that wont affect sound/dispersion etc to the point where its detrimental?
-
Would also be good to hear from some good players (but not necessarily virtuosos) I'm thinking Colin Greenwood, Alex James, Simon Gallup, John Taylor and so on
-
JPJ, Geezer Butler, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Tim Comerford.... I'm sure you'll get loads of bass players recommendations, but I'd also be interested to get my geek on and hear from others in the industry like amp or pedal manufacturers. Mark gooday or Alex Barefaced spring to mind just cos there UK based.

I never had zoom down as pro gear. I may have to re-evaluate, cos they are great value for money (not that I'm a pro!)
-
@devinebass I think you're onto a winner with that relaxed top gear style format. You and Ian (who seems like the most sound dude ever!) are a great partnership.

Enjoyed this. Big fan of Guy Pratt - he's played some killer lines over the years - I really like that today bass line too. Was a bit surprised he had zoom b3 on his board though

The fender rumble stuff is similarly priced in the UK to ashdown and is lightweight. Don't know too much about them, and have never used them. But I do seem to remember reading good stuff about them on here. Perhaps worth a look?

I would say the amp heads are the shining lights of the Ashdown range, and while the speaker cabs are good, I do think you could still get great/better performance out of a different lightweight cab. I'm currently running 2 x abm 115 evo 2 compact cabs, but I'm always on the lookout for something lightweight that'll do the job. I suppose aesthetically you may want all Ashdown though.

I have one of these for sale in the classifieds at the moment - Just sayin 😉

One of the differences is the pro Neos are sealed. Which probably means they're not as loud - or you have to push em harder to get the same volume. Pretty sure @BassAdder60has had pro neo as well as the heavier abm cabs

I picked up a 2nd hand gator bag for mine, it's a touch big, but does the job well and makes it easy to carry in/out of venues

I played through an abm Evo iii with a 410 cab. The amp didn't seem close to the Evo iv in terms of low end, presence, and tone. Is the Evo iv just a lot better? Or the alternative could be that the cab was raised 3ft off the floor on a flight case. Could the floor coupling (or lack of) be the reason for the lack of low end and presence?

Zoom B1 four for sale. I bought this on Facebook market place recently without really thinking it through. I don't need it, I already have some good analogue effects, it doesn't fit on my board, and I'll probably never use it. Therefore it's up for sale. Looking to get back what I paid for it? Add £3 for postage to UK. Cheers Alex

I've been using mine recently with shape off (in), eq flat apart from boosting the last 2 sliders to the right - great for if you want a bit of clarity, without clack. That said, I have been switching between a 215 cab and a 410 cab and I have to set the eq different depending on what cab I use.

I've just picked up a mighty plug 2 2nd hand for £25 - pretty good deal. A couple of observations/questions. I like to play along to tracks on my phone (youtube, spotify, etc). As I understand the music audio is eq'd within the mighty plug app before it gets sent to headphones. The Eq mix (whichever preset I choose) in the mighty plug app seems really bass heavy. So much so that I have to Eq the bass out on my phones settings. Anyone else found this? Also, I tried recording Mighty plug into Audacity onto my PC. However, the signal seems really temperamental and appears to be cutting out. I have updated to the latest firmware and driver. I think this is more likely an Audacity issue though. Perhaps I need to find a better recording software! Other than that, its a really cool bit of kit. I do think the volume buttons on mighty plug 3 would be really useful when playing along to different tracks that are at different volumes - it'll save you switching between apps to get volume levels correct.

Gavin bought my mojo mojo pedal. Great Comms & great guy to deal with. Thanks @Lensbod

I would recommend a compressor pedal (if you plan to use one). I think the inbuilt one is ok, but reduces your output volume quite a bit.
-
The barefaced 10s didn't work for me with my abm, nice and warm sounding, but lacking a bit of clarity to my ears - I felt like I was struggling to cut through the mix. Mind you they have a new version available with a tweeter which could be just what I would have wanted.

Here's the video that got me interested. I just use the gain and none of the clipping diodes. Sounds great to my ears and sits really nice in a mix in a rock setting
