  1. I’ve heard good things about the TC spectracomp which looks similar size to the Aguilar and available for around £40-50 used. I currently have a TC vintage compressor (a copy of T. rex comp nova) but have not been using it because it’s a big pedal and I dont have much space on my board. A small easy to use compressor is definitely appealing to me. But with me not really being an expert on compression, I don’t know how much difference a decent one would make to my tone & therefore couldn’t justify spending huge amounts
  2. Yes, I agree it’s ambiguous. Pedal sounded sweet in that video though. I’ll put it through its paces at practice tomorrow
  3. I’ve got on ok with the onboard compressor - just use it to reduce dynamic range and even out the signal, but then again I’ve never really used a pedal - I’m thinking I might be missing out!
  4. At the moment I just use a compressor to reduce the dynamic range and even out & fatten the sound. So it sounds like this pedal may do that job. I'm fairly new to compression & have always used the onboard one on my amp - which is a single pot control. That said I do have a compressor & am interested to see if I can make good use of attack/release controls etc.
  5. Copied from their website: Inspired by an old Akai GX 210D reel to reel tape machine from the 1970s, the JIVE - Reel Saturator was made to give you the gooey and warm saturation obtained when pushing the Akai’s pre-amps to the max. https://www.jptrfx.com/dirt-machines/
  6. Yep, surprised me too a bit. I figured guitarists are often overdriving amps without issue, so I assumed it would be similar for bass amps too.
  7. Spoke to Dave Green at Ashdown. He said you are likely to damage the input stage if you hard over in the red all the time
  8. I thought the Direct recording of the p bass with the jive circuit built in sounded great. I doubt I’ll use it for distortion, just want it to fatten the sound and get slightly gritty. funnily enough, it’s just arrived, so I’ll report back if you’re interested. Check out their business card - looks like it’s an actual functioning PCB board - pretty cool
  9. Tuner on the floor as it mutes when tuning
  10. I’ve ordered a JPTR jive pedal as seen here: It replicates tape saturation & distortion/fuzz. I’m going to run the jive similar to the chap in the video I.e where the signal gets ‘fat’ just before the point of breakup and intend it as an always on pedal. It seems to me this will be doing a similar job to a compressor. Do you think I’ll be able to lose the compressor or should I use it with a compressor? I suppose the answer is to try it and see, but I thought I’d ask basschatters for advice anyway thanks
  11. I'm not & now that I think about it, I can probably get the engaged/unengaged volumes to match by turning the octave volume down & adjusting the blend. However, I would be interested to know the implications if the VU was constantly hard in the red
  12. Purchased a pedal off Paul. Very easy to deal with. Pedal arrived quickly with excellent comms throughout. Many thanks
  13. Would I be doing any damage overdriving the preamp? On the vu meter I occasionally hit the red, however, when I engage my octave pedal it boosts the input volume and the vu meter is constantly in the red? It adds a bit of grit and sounds pretty nice, but I’m slightly concerned I’d be damaging the amp. Any advice here?
  14. I watched it on Sky Arts this week. Good documentary. There was a short clip of a live performance from Stevie Wonder. I'm gonna have to hunt the full version down - the band were cooking!
  15. When I had a small bass rig, I ended up carrying more of the Drums/PA in & out of venues. So I figured I may as well have a bigger rig
  16. This is the best deal I can find for a new one https://www.musik-produktiv.com/gb/ashdown-abm-600-evo-iv.html I do keep recommending these guys throughout this thread, but I’ve never used them.
  17. I’ve seen some excellent deals for these new and second hand recently. Gear is expensive, However when I was looking at buying a head, the ashdown Abm 600 seemed fairly reasonably priced compared to some of its competitors.
  18. Buy some more? https://www.acscustom.com/uk/products/accessories I’m fairly new to these, i have found it’s essential to create a seal to get them to attenuate evenly - any slight gaps and it’s overly bassy
  19. I enjoyed the first 2 albums. Not really liked anything by them since, but honestly the state of pop music & you take issue with Coldplay. Don’t get it!
  20. did you see the link to musik produktiv - available for £299. Lots of people on here successfully used them when they were selling off the rm heads for cheap
  21. Personally I’d be looking at 2nd hand. You’ll not know what you like until you try it at volume with a band, and even then it’ll take a few rehearsals until you know for sure. if you go 2nd hand, you’ll be able to sell on for similar money. With regard to BF I’d definitely try and listen to a cab before purchase. Or you can return a cab after a month if you don’t like it for around £30. I had the 10’s and for me they didn’t live up to the hype. That said, lots of people love them
  22. Available here for a bit less? https://www.musik-produktiv.com/gb/ashdown-abm-115h-evo-iv-compact.html
  23. I’ve not heard he pro neo ABM’s, but I would go (standard heavier) ABM’s over Rm cabs any day
  24. I love my ashdown 15’s. They don’t have horn or tweeter but they sound massive
  25. I’ve been trying to work on my rhythm lately. I don’t know if this will be advanced enough for many here, but check out rhythm trainer app. I have found some of the exercises to be pretty useful
