1. It is quite funny with so much negativity. Calling Darkglass products snake oil. These products are hand built in Helsinki (not the cabs), not in a sweatshop in Nanjing. Doug puts in a ton of effort to create products that some love and others don't. Maybe they are not for you, but Darkglass products are really liked by a lot of people. I really get why they aren't for everybody, but the amount of complaining makes me think some people are jealous they can't buy them or something.
2. Looks like 210 and 410 along with a new smaller head.
3. I do want to buy this bass, but I have decided not to buy another bass that I can't test first. And Burgos is just too far away at the moment.
4.
Deffo not digital, they are made by hand, however since they use tiny SMD components I expect they probably use a machine to do the actual soldering of components to the PCB!
The soldering is done by hand. How do I know? I watched it.
5. I started with the VMT, then got a B7K. Didn't really use the VMT too much. Then I got a M900 amp. So the other night I was playing my Warwick Corvette $$ at rehearsal and the B3K setting on the M900 just made the whole thing sound way too scooped. Switch to the VMT setting and Voila!, it fits in the mix much better. I normally run my basses on the B3K setting or through a B7K, but the $$ just is a bit much into that. Love having both the B3K, the VMT and the clean sound on tap that way. The VMT just worked a lot better for that bass, and maybe others too.
6.
Beautiful ibanez in here Here my quartet : all 1979 Ibanez Roadster From left to right : 79' RS800 sunburst (passive), 79´ RS 920 natural (active), 79´ RS 900 Traditionnal Violin (active), 79´ RS 900 natural fretless (active). Somewhere between PB, Musicman Sabre and Stingray. Roadster addicted...
Nice. I have been looking for a long time and finally I have an RS800. It goes very well with my MC800.
7. What I ended up doing with my Line 6 G10 which doesn't take 9 Volt, was this, one Volto for the pedals and one USB battery pack for the G10. But if you have a wireless that use 9 volt then I presume you can use one battery pack only.
8.
I use the Pedaltrain Volto. It's pretty good - lasts a while powering 4 or five pedals but I'm always forgetting to charge the bloody thing before a gig.
I have been using a Volto under my Pedaltrain Nano for a while now. Powering a 2 pedals and tuner. Works great.
9. Did I ever post on BassChat the interview I made with Doug Castro at Darkglass, about the making of the Microtubes 900 amp? If I did, I apologise. Here it is anyway.
10. Scott Devine's take on the A/O.
11.
Quite possibly. If I'd been playing my own bass through it I'd be able to say more clearly, but the low end of the clean channel had that sponge type Markbass feel to it. However, the dirts were just outrageous. Mental really how good they were. For me, I never run a bass sound entirely clean so I suppose I'm being unfair, but certainly I believe that darkglass have missed a trick in 2 ways. First, the amp isn't rackable and 2nd there are no presets controllable by midi. If it had both of those (even if it cost more) I'd have one.
Doug at Darkglass has mentioned that there would be a rackmount kit. But it was a while ago, so not sure when. Presets controlled by midi I think was probably a bridge to far for a first amp.
12. M900 being spongy is not something I have heard or experienced before. Rather the opposite. Maybe it was the bass.
13. I am the opposite. I totally am going to love this I think. But then I think it is a "love it" or "don't care" pedal.
14. Yeah, The RB760 wasn't great for a big bottom. I upgraded mine.
15. Anywhere near Amsterdam or Delft? I come by regularly. Like to try first.
16. I have been thinking the same. The Bass station looks awesome.
17. I have been GASing after one of these ever since I visited the Mayones workshop in Gdansk. So far away, darn.
18. Thanks! That is an odd oversight in the design.
19. What is the problem with active basses you are referring to?
20. What cabs have you tried with the Darkglass M900 amp? What did you like? Any combination you didn't like? We tried the TKS W2126 which I like, and the Mesa Subways (112 & 115), which was less successful.
21. Bass: Ibanez RS800 (very similar in sound to the MC800 in the picture, or a modded Ibanez RB760 with a Darkglass Tone Capsule) Strings: Earnie Ball Cobalt. Pedal board: Line6 G10, Pitchblack tuner, Darkglass VMT & B7K (probably soon an Alpha Omega instead of B7K when using the DG amp) Amp: Darkglass M900 or Mesa Carbine M9 Cabs: TKS W2126 x2
22.
I finally grabbed a B7K to see what all the fuss is about. wow ! There's the tone I was searching for all these years. Just dial my amp flat and let the B7K provide all the goodness
Just how I reacted.
