Was looking at changing the pup cover on my 1998 Ray5 (fancied white for some reason....yeah I know). Contacted EBMM - very helpful, gave me the direct contact at Strings and Things. S&T equally helpful and more than happy to send me a cover but said that replacement was verrrry difficult on a MM5 pup (unlike the MM4) as it's epoxied in and removal can result in damage/destruction of the windings. Anybody any experience? Thanks, MTB

A rather more serious HappyJackShit topic
Strangely, 2010 has seen a gradual return to more basses For Sale only, and there seems to have been a bit more cash about, but the Government Spending Review has been a real wake-up call that the worst is yet to come, and the For Sale section has now stalled again.
Inclined to agree with you HJ. Recently I sold a MM Fretless and ended up at a price a good deal less than what I'd consider average. But I was being lazy and rationaled that with paypal yadda yadda I was probably only £50 off the best I could get at the time and I consider the (relatively) painless selling on BC to be worth it. More recently I decided to do the FS/FT type route on a +£1000 bass but that didn't come off. In the end you have to decide the lowest you'll accept for a bass (laziness or not) and stick to it. I think there's lean times for a while so you're in the best place if you're happy with your current collection of gear. -

Tricky one this, the market on Rays is a bit moribund at the moment (check my recent FS thread on a 30th Anni Ray). If great nick with original case then +£700 but maybe a little less for a quick sale - and unless in an equivalent Hiscox HSC knock a bit more off. If it's got some nice figuring in the neck maybe £50+ more. Also depends where you're selling it, I scored a near mint 1998 Ray5 for £725 with original HSC off the bay a few weeks back. I'd be inclined to hold off until after the silly season if you can afford it.
Alot is said that graphite necked basses have no character..i can see why this is an opinion..this may have to do with the player and his fingers, or the strings IMHO..
Can't agree more. I fully expected my Status to be a bit harsh and sterile after all the comments I had read in the past. Pretty much found you can get whatever sound you want coupled with a super low action and no season related rod adjustments.

Nice Ray. Notice it's got a bullet Rod, my old (long departed) 1990 Ray had the current 'wheel', Wonder when the change over happend?
BUMP for a stunning bass at a GREAT price. Wish I'd waited a few years before buying mine from new!
Cheers Jon, I gather the rrp on these was hitting towards £1800 when new - not the cheapest Ray on the block. Gig at a rough pup tonight so the Epiphone EB0 gets the 'honours' while this stays snug and safe in it's HSC.

Think I'd go what he paid plus reasonable expenses (i.e. costs he incurred getting it to himself). If you reeeeellly want it and it saves you money over a new one get it but it'll probably always rankle!

Imagine my surprise when I found the strap pin (which locates through an extended neck bolt) on my EB0 is more useless than a useless thing. None of my straps work with it - the 'cut' is so thin it won't grip anything. At the minute it's bodged with the universal Groltsch top to stop the bass falling to the ground. I've tried to replace it with a standard Fender pin but the damn bolt is too thick. Anyone had the same problem/any suggestions.
Exactly, and I think the TIs are a fair whack more. I think its more the feel that people like to comment on with flats....and the ommph!
MM20, what's the tension like on the EBs? I've got Rotoflats on my SR5 fretless and am looking for a lower tension set up. My bad - you answered my question a few posts back (should read the whole thread and stop skimming). BurritoB. Wouldn't worry too much - I wouldn't call the Roto's tension on my SR5 - 'neck breaking' just a bit higher than my personal preference. I'd personally be fine with them on a fretted but prefer something more like TI's on a Fretless. I've got a Roto 5 string set - unused/unopened if anyone wants them for say £15 (plus post).
thanks! (except warwickhunt! ) looking back ive had some cracking basses.
I had a JV '57 reissue back in the day. I got it only a couple of weeks after they came out so like yours it was a first issue with the big Fender on the headstock. Like a fool I sold it a few years later to get a MIA Jazz (think it was a 1980 or thereabouts in sienna burst). I was a fool it wasn't a patch on the JV. The JV is probably the only bass I've ever regretted parting wuth (and there's been a few). Do not make the same mistake
