Unfortunately not. Bit gutted you cant upgrade a little to a hardcase or slightly different colour.
Story of my life.......................the quest for the fretless MM (now in its 3rd month) continues.

If this includes Fretless I might be up for a punt.
'fraid not. I'm over t'other side, Broomhill way and I dont get out much (work, kids, work, work etc). Although, if you were passing this way with your 30th aniversary then I'd stick the kettle on............
Well if Daughter 2 gets into Sheffield Uni this September you never know, Cheers, Mart
You DO need to try them out for yourself. I find the lack of head perfectly acceptable, but can see how some people might utterly loathe it.
+1 - I fell into the loathe category for quite some time. I used to use headed exclusively except for a local jamnight where the house bass was a headless Hohner. I used to be 2 frets out for 10 minutes until my head adjusted but never really felt comfortable. A year later I had a shoulder problem and moved onto a Streamline as a last resort - I now use this as my main bass and now don't have this problem. Strangely enough when I use a 'normal' bass I don't have any problem adjusting. One thing I can't get over tho is that it never, repeat never goes out of tune!

DesmondP - do you ever get around the Rotherham neck of the woods? I'd love to see this in action!
^ black onyx Sterlings are cool
Agreed, would love one.....all the better if it was an unlined fretless tho then I guess I'd lose it in the dark.

Ernie Ball Slinkies on my string through body 30th Ray - no problem.

The Streamline is the least 'hifi' Status out there - very dub bass if that's your thing. Don't let the graphite looks fool you...
Dont you think its just from where your hand finishes going up the neck,Mine has the line but It was not there when I bought it new? It just being a dirt ending line also explains why the laquered necks are the same, There is no way they would blend 2 types of laquer at the head joint.IMO
Agree with BB. Don't think they ever used 2 types of laquers on the neck. My old 1990 had the same satin lacquer on the neck and headstock. My 30th has gloss laquer on both neck and headstock. The 2008 Ray F'less I just sold had oil on the neck and satin lacquer on the headstock. This 'problem' is less noticeable if you wipe the neck down frequently with them wonderwipe thingies. If it gets really grimy a scotchbrite pad (green plastic abrasive thing) and some gunstock oil will see to it.
Avon EB0 copy. Gave tin and firewood a bad name. Awful thing. Probably worth £150 as a 'Lawsuit' now.
Ditto. Strangely my band mates loved it.......to me it sounded like a fart in a tin.

I'm sort of umming and ahhhing over a L2000 fretless at the mo. How would you rate the L2000 soundwise against the std 3EQ Ray4H?
Thanks for the kind words Chaps. Mart - I'm sure the Gallery can do a handsome de-fret job on it for you! Pete - If someone offers up the £1,200 I will certainly be parting with it. Cheers, Jon
That would be a heinous crime Jon, but I did think about it for more than a few minutes... -

I have a recurrent shoulder problem which means long sets with my beloved mm are tough. I moved onto the streamline for long sets. The combination of design and low weight (7lbs) cured my problem. There doesn't seem to be much of a stretch to the 1st and no neck dive as it has no headstock. Expensive but worth a try.
A local shop has two stingrays in at the minute. Played them both (unplugged) yesterday and while one of them was quite nice the other felt much heavier. The guy in the shop claims the lighter model is a '99 model, has a 4 bolt neck and I guess he's right. The 2nd one was admittedly beat to hell with lumps out of the neck, chips in thr paint buckle rash and some very noticable damage to the g side of the fret board - like its been repeatedly dropped or gnawed by a big rat! Its also very evident on the left hand and Im not sure anything could be done to repair it other than a 'new' neck. Anyhow the point is this 2nd beat up bass felt considerably heavier and had a 6 bolt neck, metal battery cover etc and it was dated 89/90. The bridge appeared to have mounts for the mutes as well but they we long gone. Would the woods have been different in these two models? I am tempted but the cost of the new neck is putting me off as I cant get the guy to budge from about £550 - not a good deal considering the damage to the neck Cheers for any help
Not an expert but quickly: 1. 4 bolt necks went out fairly early in Ray's so this is the older of the 2. 2. The age of the second bass sounds probably about right. There shouldn't be a date on it tho - just a serial (on the bridge at this age IIRC). In the condition you are stating on the second bass - if it was in vgc I'd say £750 - 850 (depending on the level of figuring on the maple). £550 sounds steep if you're going to have to do a neck swap. There are plenty of decent ones out there - there's a minter on here for £650 in trans red ash (so shouldn't be heavy). Not my sale btw - but if I was in the market for another fretted ray I'd have it!
Does it have to be brand new? I bought a second hand (unmarked) CIJ fretless Jazz for round that figure. Wonderful bass.
+1, a nice CIJ Jazz would do nicely. Alternatively you might just snag a standard Warwick Corvette for £400, not too shabby if you prefer something away from the Fender track.

I think you need a bit more time experimenting with your settings in a proper practice/gig environment. I've found Rays can be very sensitive to surroundings and can take a bit of tweaking to get projection into the mix. I usually find a play at the mid eq normally does the job. I notice that your other 2 basses are Fender offerings - the MM is a different beast and the sound isn't for everyone, against your 2 I'd expect you to find it trebly/glassy to start with but it can be tamed (to an extent!).
One practice later... Good sound, popular with the rest of the band but - despite your settings Mtb - I tended to lose the G-string in the mix. I think there was a Stingray thread on the same issue some while back.
Didn't really notice the 'weak G string effect' with mine but to be honest I'm quite used to losing the G in a heavy mix if things aren't perfectly balanced even with my Status.

I had the 2 pickup version of this (the Ken Taylor). The tone is naturally a bit darker than the Stingray 5 but I found it paired well with my MarkBass set up. I tended to put the treble to about 3/4 and roll off the mids a bit which cleaned the sound up. I also found the 'flat' position a bit uninspiring.
