1.
Anyone had experience of B-5R or B2-RE? Light, solid state, not class D and would potentially beef up with a VT...
After that old BA500 died on me I actually initially replaced it with a B-5R (they run down to 2 Ohms which suited the speakers I was already running in the picture above). Unfortunately My Hermes broke it delivering it to me (luckily it was sent fully insured though) so I never actually got to hear if it would have made a worthy replacement.
2.
I want high tension strings amy recommendations for bright high tension strings please?
D'Addario ProSteels. I find they stay bright for a good while too.
3.
I did use a BA500 combo and was really impressed. What amp is in that?
I had a BA500 combo and it was indeed a fantastic sounding amp but at about 95lbs it wasn't particularly portable so I did this to it to make it more manageable: Took the amp out and put it into the head box from a cheap Behringer BVT4500H head then cut down the cab and re-tollexed the top to make a separate 2x10 cab. The pre-amp is basically the same as the SVT450H head but with a different power section (500W at 2 Ohms rather than 450W at 4 Ohms). Not sure how similar they would sound given the different power sections but might still be worth checking out the 450H if one comes up for sale.
4. I've not actually needed to buy any cables since I've been a BC member but given the amount of positive comments on this site I think even I would recommend OBBM! Certainly if I do need any cables at any point in future then he will be my first port of call.

Looks like fun. I think I'd be afraid to use it with the expression pedal though in case it made my face go like that too!
6. After my recent thread thread asking for suggestions for IEM earphones on a budget I ended up buying a set of MEE Audio M6 Pro IEMs which cost under £40 delivered from Amazon. It was suggested I put something in here about how I got on with them and having gigged with them for the first time last night these are my thoughts. Straight away I'd say if you are on a really tight budget, as I am, then I would recommend these very highly. They are, as you'd obviously expect at this price point, just a single driver but the clarity and separation in the sound was really very good indeed. As a vocalist, your voice resonating through your jaw bone into your ears when blocking them is a very muffled sound but these are really crisp and clear in the highs which I found compensated for that nicely. Even if you don't sing though I still found the sound of the rest of the instruments, including my bass, coming through nice and clear too but also full sounding in the lows. The only issue I found to be honest was that the standard silicone tips I was using occasionally popped out a bit (the medium size Comply foam tips it also came with are too small for my BFG size lugs). I might get some of large size to try them out but I'm thinking more of getting custom molds done anyway once I can afford it. Other than that I found them really comfortable to wear with the memory wire loops over my ears. Overall, a massive improvement over the normal Sennheiser earphones I had been using and for very little cost. This morning I'm just enjoying the fact that I don't feel like my ears are stuffed with cotton wool after a really good gig last night.

8.
I travel to gigs mostly on the Tube in London and can just about be bothered to take one bass with me lol
I'm just glad I don't play fretless too to be honest!
9. 1. Squier VM P5. 2. Sterling SUB Ray5 3. Fender Modern Player Jazz 5 All three of these get used at every gig. The Jazz I just use for the 2 or 3 songs I play with a pick. After that it's a bit weird. I class the Squier P as my number one because it's the one bass of the 3 that I'd happily use for every song in our set if I had to, but the Ray actually gets used on more songs. On those songs though I only marginally prefer the Ray but on most of the songs where I use the P it's because I very much prefer it over the Ray - if that makes any sense at all.
10.
Next you'll be saying that this isn't cool... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcGNqrAtsgg I dunno, you whipper-snappers.
I'll have you know I had all the action figures thank you very much! No matter how cool that cartoon, or indeed any of the other 80s cartoons I loved enough to get up early for on a Saturday morning back then might be, I don't think any of them would have inspired a stage name that I'd care to use.
11.
Given that it has no Master Volume it's supposed to stay clean up to really high volumes, since the volume knobs control the gain stage, while the power section permanently runs full throttle. Edti: Wait, it does have Master Volume. But that can be switched off, which is good!
Oh dear I was afraid of that. I've been Gas free for a while now but that's not helping. The EQ had better turn out to be poorly voiced for bass or Mrs Painy is gonna be getting upset with me
12. I'd be interested to hear how well it holds together at volume. I do like a bit of tube warmth but only really a little bit of hair. Obviously as a guitar amp this will be designed to break up into full distortion when driven but would 150W give enough headroom to keep things at least fairly clean sounding at gig volume if needed or would we be talking full on Lemmy levels of distortion at bedroom levels?
13. Hmmm. I think using the stage name 'Thundercat' might reduce his overall level of coolness somewhat though. Kinda reminds me of that drummer Thunderstick that used to play with Samson. He definitely wasn't cool!
14.
Just thought that I would mention the Musicians Hearing Health Scheme. If you are a working player (and I'm not sure how loosely that needs to fit) then this scheme is brilliant! http://www.musicianshearingservices.co.uk/musicians-union/musicans-hearing-health-scheme/ Hearing check and custom made moulded earplugs for £40. Definitely worth investigating!!!
Well I for one will be looking into this. Recently started using IEMs and have been thinking about getting custom molds to use with them so this could be an affordable way to go about it - not to mention the hearing check as I already suffer with tinnitus and fairly significant hearing loss which I'd prefer to halt in its tracks.
15. The hype surrounding The Arctic Monkeys' first album had me completely baffled at the time and I still don't get it (or anything they've done since) now. Edit:- Woo-hoo!!! 1000 posts!
16. I've read a description of Cliff Burton's playing where he was said to have had a "volcanic bass technique".
17. I gigged with a Line6 Bass Pod xt-Pro into a QSC 1450c power amp for a few years. Went back to heads eventually because I was never 100% happy with the sound but that was more down to the Pod. If I still had the amp I think I'd have fun running different pre-amp pedals straight into it to get different sounds.
18. Now that's a rig that looks like it means business!
19. I think I need to give it a few more listens to give it a chance but hasn't grabbed me at the first listen the way Rock Dust Light Star did. To be honest though I'm not sure it has the kind of mass appeal they may have been hoping for.
20. I know I should but I'd be worried it could become something of an Addiction and I'd end up following the tour from Coast To Coast. I'm sorry. I'm try and leave off the puns..... ....From Now On.
21.
Honourable mention for Yolanda Charles http://youtu.be/pTvMoA1GyV4
Not sure if it's any measure of coolness as such but I do think I may be a little bit in love with her.
22. Well my earphones have arrived and for the money I'm very impressed so far (I will be looking to get something better in due course if these don't cut it though). They are pretty much what I'd hoped for - which is to say a flat, more focused bass response than my Sennheiser earphones (which are meant for general music listening rather than designed for use as stage IEMs) and very clear, crisp and precise in the mids and highs. So far I've only tried them listening to music on my phone and with my bass through my practice amp so yet to see how they fare at a gig (no gig this weekend either which is always the way when I get a bit of new kit I want to try out) but I'll report back after next week's gig.
23.
The other thing that has me reaching for the off button is anything by The Doors: turgid, monotonous, self indulgent meanderings, I really don't understand their appeal or level of success.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. I find Jim Morrison's voice to be a bit of a disinterested drone a lot of the time too to be honest. Most of my mates seem to love them and I'm glad they enjoy it but can't abide their music at all myself.
24. Seen him live 3 times now. My favorite vocalist without question and I think a very underrated bass player too. Far funkier than any pick player has any right to be. I find it astounding that his voice and range haven't deteriorated at all despite him being well into his 60s and if anything it seems stronger than ever - something that can't be said for the majority of his contemporaries. Unfortunately though it looks like I'll miss him This Time Around - you see what I did there?
25. Will do. Is seems that the complaints about excessive treble were mainly from people using them as headphones to listen to recorded music rather than for stage monitoring but we shall see. Apparently burning them in for 24 hours softens the treble too so I'll probably give that a go. I'll leave a review on here once I've tried them out.
