1. I just let my fingers fall where they want, never thought about it. From this picture taken a few days ago, it looks like I have all fingers on one fret!
2.
I only learnt about the Metric system at school/work and the Imperial system really throws me out I always have to use a chart to do the conversions
I'm the other way round, must have been the last generation to be taught Imperial units and not metric.
3.
I got mine from That Ebay too for about 99p after I discovered that the Series 1 Status uses [s]primitive[/s] proper measurements.
The metric system is the devil's work, and worse still, is French
4. Fender specify 6/64" (I think that's about 2.5 mm, but I don't do metric so can't be sure) between bottom of all strings and top of 17th fret which, although I set mine up to suit my playing, is pretty much dead on where it ended up. I would therefore define 'low action' as anything less than that, and 'high action' as anything more.
5.
I must be the only guy on this whole website who really dislikes P's XD
No, I dislike peas as well.
6.
There is only one answer to this question, US Fender Precision.
He's right, you know.
7. I'm more than happy with my Ashdown ABM 500 and Barefaced Super Twin for gigging, but must admit that the old Fender Bassman and anonymous 4x12 I used in a studio last year sounded superb.
8. A little something for the weekend, anyone?
9. Thanks, I just don't have room for them all.
10. Pictures of the bass now added to original post.
11.
this is a bit 'out there' but i think you can link a lot of the physical feel of the dancers, to the way you play the bass. yep i really think so. no i don't smoke weed. I'm possibly indoctrinated.
I have always thought this to be true, it's quite something when you look out at all those young women enjoying themselves because of what you're doing with your fingers!
12. I have a MIM 60s classic Jazz, sounds and feels fine to me, I preferred it to my US Jazz (now swapped for a US Precision.)
13.
Your avatar says otherwise!
A rare moment of three fingered plodding!
14. I've used nothing but Ashdown for quite a few years as well, currently using a 180 w 112 EB combo for rehearsing and an ABM 500 Evo II for gigs. I bought the ABM with a matching 410 cab, which was OK, but it sounds vastly better now that I use it through a Barefaced Super Twin (amp is a perfect fit on the cab, too!). Recently returned the amp to Ashdown for a general service, 2 day turn around and a checkover by the people that put it together in the first place, which I find very reassuring, and not something that many manufacturers can match.
15. It does say in the description "Photos to follow, here's one of me!" I'd have waited for the photos before posting, though.
16. One of our guitarists used to change guitars constantly, in the end we put a stop to it as it took too long and looked so unprofessional.
17. A year ago I was playing with some guys in Uxbridge. I live near Witney, about 10 miles west of Oxford. On a good day, I could get from my house to the rehearsal studio in under and hour, but it often took two hours plus if there had been an accident on the M40. It quickly became more trouble than it was worth.
18. I am one of those apparently strange individuals who get off on the interaction between members of a band. I rarely play alone, only at rehearsals or gigs, and when I don't have a band to play in, don't play.
19.
I think a lot of modern maple necked basses have matt lacquered necks which gives them the appearance that they aren't lacquered as opposed to the shiny 60s and 70s lacquered necks.
Ah, that makes sense. All of my basses have rosewood fingerboards and gloss lacquered maple necks, though I do have a Squier Precision with a matt maple neck and rosewood fingerboard.
20. I must lead a sheltered life, I have never seen a maple fingerboard that has not been lacquered. I've seen enough where the lacquer has worn off to know that maple gets pretty dirty if left unprotected.
