1. Interesting, I had a cover made by Roqsolid for my Super Twin (#001) and the side handle cutouts were an inch out, apparently they had used dimensions supplied by another owner. The side handles are not dead centre, they are an inch or so higher. They sent me a replacement cover within a couple of days.
2. We had a pretty good night, started slow with the pub less than half full, but by the second set the place was filling up nicely and we ended up have to play three encores. Exhausting but satisfying evening.
3. My best compliment was from a young woman who ran up to me as I left the stage and threw her arms around me to say thank you for the gig. Could do with that happening more often!
4. The only reason I play is to play gigs. The buzz of creating live music in front of an audience is what it's all about for me.
5. Never lend out your gear, got to be a firm rule. I also never play through anyone else's gear unless it is jam or festival where the organizers supply it. Even then I am rarely happy with the sound I get. As for drinking two bottle of wine at a gig, completely wrong. Drink afterwards, never before or during, no one plays better after a drink, they just think they do.
6. The Wirebirds featuring the fabulous Jenny Haan are playing at the King & Queen in Longcot (between Oxford and Swindon this Friday. Last time we played there (before Jenny joined us) we had a great gig, and with the addition of her vocals it will be even better!
7.
Top 100,I,d be struggling to name 10
I can only think of two, and they're both in the room with me.
8. I set all EQ on my Ashdown ABM 500 to flat, then adjust slightly according to the acoustics of the place I am playing in. Amp goes through Barefaced Super Twin, bass is fender Precision.
9. Our gig last week, with the wonderful Jenny Haan getting into her stride. Blew the socks off the audience to see a talent of her magnitude up close and personal in a small pub. (and to answer the obvious questions, yes we do have a drummer, he's at the back, on the left, out of shot. And no, Jenny isn't sitting down, she is just a petite woman surrounded by tall guys!)
10. Couldn't listen to it, we were rehearsing this song last week and hearing the original doesn't help me remember our own version. Plus I prefer our vocalist!
11. There's more to take into consideration than how a bass feels & sounds; for me, how well it stands up to repeated use counts for a lot, but consistency is hard to evaluate in the short term, or in a blindfold test.
12.
That 'somewhere' would be the Royal Oak in Old Town. I know cos I played there Friday night with Get Carter and saw your poster above the urinal!
We always get such favourable billing!. Someone from Get Carter turned up to collect a case of some sort while we were getting our gear in.
13. Sounds like a good night out, unfortunately we are gigging in another of Swindon tonight. Hope you leave some audience for us!
14. Played my local pub last night, the band's played there a few times before but this was the first time with our new singer. I had been telling everyone how great she is for weeks, and despite her being unwell, she still put on a great performance, including an incredible version of Janis J's Move Over. Same again tonight, somewhere in Swindon.
15.
Stop it; you'll only wind him up.
Don't worry, it'll soon blow over.
16. Busy weekend for the Wirebirds coming up, with an added air of excitement in that we don't know how well our featured singer, Jenny Haan, is going to be...she is busy downing antibiotics and ignoring orders to rest trying to fight off a throat & chest infection. Anyway, we will be doing something at The Bell in Standlake, Oxfordshire, on Friday night, and something else (or maybe the same thing again, no one knows!) at The Royal Oak in Swindon's Old Town on Saturday evening.
17.
My Daughter, Burana
I wonder if anyone else here will understand that!
18. Thanks, I am fairly sure she'll manage at least one gig, just hope it is the first as that is the bigger of the two.
19. We have two gigs this weekend, and our very talented female vocalist also has laryngitis...counting down to first gig and hoping she can beat it. She's a seasoned professional and won't damage her voice, but also hates to let an audience down.
20.
Jeez, what an insane morning I've had! I just have to share.... I went to the works canteen this morning and bought a cup of tea - like I do every morning - and there were TWO tea bags in it. I can only think the lassie who works there picked two up by accident, instead of one.
I can only be a matter of an hour or two before the local radio & TV channels pick up on this and change your life forever
21. That's a beaut, I don't suppose it would fit a modern spec P? Specifically a 2012 US standard.
22. Sorry to hear the project's reached the end of its natural life. As for new directions, I recommend looking in your kitchen , I found our new singer lurking there and she is taking our band in directions we had never dared dream of.
