1.
In the miniscule metroplis of Witney
Then we have probably bumped into each other, I'm just down the road in Standlake.
  2.
Less likely to drop it, obviously, and will stop that thumb ache from over gripping The only weird bit is that they want £1.50 to deliver something costing £1.30
Can't really post much for less than that! Where abouts in Oxfordshire are you?
  3. I'll ask our guitarist if he has one I can try. Looks easier than just holding it.
  4. Thanks for the advice, I am kind of limited in my options as the gig is the day after tomorrow and I won't have time to visit a music shop before then. I have a few picks like Gibson 351s in medium weight, left over from a long forgotten attempt to play guitar. Not gripping too hard is good advice, though I do worry about dropping the pick. Having a few spares on my amp should sort that out.
  5. I have no wish to reopen the eternal pick vs fingers argument, but as a long term finger style player, I had to use a plectrum at tonight's rehearsal due to problems with my right hand (badly broken wrist in a motorcycle accident 3 months ago). One of my playing fingers has scar tissue which is causing its tendon to become painful when I play. I had to swap to a pick after the first song, and the last time I used one was about 30 years ago. I like the sound, clear and bright but still a gutsy Precision sound. Does anyone have any general tips on playing with a pick? Raise or lower the bass from my finger style position? I am holding the pick (large Gibson style) between thumb and forefinger, the ball of thumb aches with he effort of gripping it after a song or two (another legacy of the accident). Again, any advice on how to grip it? I am planning to use a pick for our gig on Saturday. What could possibly go wrong?
  6.
Wings..? I believe he played a R*ck*nb*ck*r...
Another bass I can't stand the look of.
  7.
Yes probably, sorry if there was... anyway I like to keep us all rehashing the same old sh*t, I'm starting another thread on The Beatles being overrated later.
Good call, what I really dislike are those violin basses that Macca used to play in that overrated band
  8. Keep a DI box in my gig bag 'just in case'. Use it when there isn't enough room for my usual amp & cab.
  9.
This would do my nut in.
Nah, keeps us on our toes, all part of the fun
  10.
So do we, and so does ours, but it doesn't always help the harp player much as he would really like to have the right one in his hand at the beginning. Especially when he says "It's a bit of a gentle atmosphere in here at the moment, let's start the set with some SRV - how about Pride and Joy?" and then launches into Cold Shot. Took me two bars of intro to realise, but the harp player was frantically digging in his box of tricks. To be fair he has them all nicely in order so it didn't take long but it did induce a look of blind panic.
That is exactly what happens to us, there is a set list which the guitarist usually ignores, and often calls one song then plays another, while our harp guy (who's is rather deaf) is asking what key it's in...and somehow lip reads E as G or D. Somehow we haven't gone completely off the rails on stage yet, and I quite like the confused spontaneity of it all.
  11.
No no no not all, I love the way it starts off tentatively and builds, class act..and how could I have forgotten that album, its still on regular rotation i the car . My dad still wonders where it went ( I snaffled it age 13 lol)
Glad to see I'm not alone in appreciating Bert Ruiter (probably spelt that wrong!).
  12. When I was a lad....I used to listen to my albums on me dad's B&O radiogram. Then as a student, I had some stereo or other, then a sony system with CD...in fact two...and then a long time of not really listening to much except what was in my head. I recently bought a macbook pro, and am like a 16 year old again, listening to all sorts of music on iTunes via the built in speakers. I will try my bluetooth speakers again one of these days too.
  13.
Focus III - works, apart from the bass solo which is so low you can't hear it, and isn't much cop if you turn it up.
That bass solo was what got me into bass playing.

    Copies

I have two Precision bases and one Jazz bass. All are genuine Fenders, but each was made in a different country. One Precision was made in the USA, one was made in Japan, and the Jazz was made in Mexico. All are recognised as Fender products. I also have a Squier Precision Bass copy. Incidentally, the made in the US Precision is the best of my little collection.
  15. I thought they were served by the lovely Ms Donna Kebab.
  16. I recommend seeing a physiotherapist. I am currently doing so as part my rehabilition after a bike accident that left me with a broken foot, and more relevantly, a badly broken right wrist. After nearly 2 months in a plaster cast, and with two metal plates and a whole load of screws holding it together, I thought it would be some time before I would play again, but with my physio's help and encouragement, I was soon playing along to recordings of my band, and last Thursday, we had our first rehearsal since November. I was able to play 12 songs, and everything sounded as it always has. How different that would have been had it been my left hand, I cannot say, but to me, my right hand is the more important and harder working one when playing bass, as I play finger style so it is responsible for all the rythmic content.
  17. As above, sack the guy, if he has more clout with the band than you do, then walk. I ended up sacking the guy that recruited me to my current band, we improved immediately.
  18.
We like to keep our audience guessing ...
Our guitarist likes to keep the rest of the band guessing too!
  19.
You took a break, you didn't quit. If anything you were only temporarily out of it. I say, if you don't like rock and roll or people the whole band thing won't be much fun. And while I still maintain it's a business, if your not having fun, get out. Blue
He's right, you know.
  20. The last time I used a tablet (or two) on stage I had a very enjoyable gig and spent most of it wondering who was playing bass, as I wasn't aware of doing so myself
  21. I just stumbled across this one, much better bass playing and a far better bike. In fact, I have just bought this exact model, which is why I was looking https://vimeo.com/30199187
  22. We've played several gigs with one member missing, though both of those member were later asked to leave as we realised it was more fun and sounded better without them. The band's most recent gigs required a dep bassist as I was unable to play after breaking my wrist (and foot) in a bike accident. I am hoping they won't decide to get rid of me as well now!
  23.
I'm a Harley and Jazz man...... can I join in, please? (Tho' I did have a SV650 before my Harley!)
I do keep a Jazz between my two Ps (stops them arguing) so no objection from me.
  24.
Ah, it's all about the sound really isn't it?? Precisions AND Harleys, I mean...
I knew what you meant before I'd read the second line! Plenty of low down guts and growl. That's the Harley, my Precisions, and me!
  25.
Me too. It's just that I'm between Harleys at the moment. However I have two Precisions, so it all works out...
Me too, between Harleys but not by choice, the last one was written off in an accident two months ago and I am not able to get out and look for a replacement yet. My two Precisions are surprisingly versatile, but their acceleration and handling is even worse than a Harley!
