1. Sorry, but who names a colour Chocolate Thunder? All it does is serve to conjure up an image of having an epic fart and following through.
2. In Pork 'n Beans the bass appears to be a '51 type telebass on the outdoor shots, and a normal P-Bass inside (tort scratch), and Buddy Holly has a '51 type. Not that it makes much difference as the video has no correlation to the actual basses used in the recording. Nice bit of crunch on the bass side though.
3. Topic revival. Help me folks, I've got GAS for an Explorer....ack! Phwoar and Phwoar 2
4. Take the same analogy and apply it to cars. As long as a certain level of quality is met (ergo, meaning it'll be reliable), whether it's got a 15 billion litre quadruple turbo engine or is a 1.4 with carbs, it gets you to A -> B. And in the eyes of everyone else, as long as you're getting to work in the morning/getting to appointments/doing stuff, it doesn't matter if you drive a Veyron or a Corsa. However, you do need a comfortable ride and one that suits you.
5. The new sixx bird certainly looks better than the old one, and it has a volume control(s) and/or tone! Shocker! According to the specs (or at least, from memory as gibbo's site is down at the time of writing this), the nut width is the same as a jazz at 1.50". Which is good S'not helping my GAS for the T-Bird Pro either, evil man.
6.
I think the truth is, if the masses started liking Jazz, Jazz fans would start hating it and move onto something even more obscure and pointless.
Surely not, no-one would be depraved enough to turn to folk of all things!?
7. If it's not causing any pain or anything, and it's not causing any problems (ala, can't grip at a certain angle/uncomfortable to do so) and like you said, you've never noticed it, I'd say it's nothing to worry about. I know I've got a number of clicking joints from various injuries, which thanks to having strong bones meant there were no breakages, just slight shifts and damage to cartiliage, but they don't affect any activities...well, barring my right ankle which clicks really loudly, so I have to make sure I don't absent mindidly click it when in librarys/quiet classrooms/exam etc. Ah, good old sports injuries, I think that one was from being forced to jump into a swimming pool that was far too shallow for me to do so, what with being a tallish lad for my age in primary school, upset all the nerves and couldn't put weight on it for 2 weeks, joyfull times. By all means I'm not a health expert though, so if you've got concerns get it checked out. You could also do muscle strengthening exercies on the effected joints, strong muscles help support everything.
8. No quite right, looking into it basschat saves them as db objects rather than links to the actual image, fair enough, you'll have to use something like flickr or photobucket etc..
9. Unless I'm very much mistaken, it should simply be the job of wiring a correct value resistor in place of the pot, with the tail end of the resistor going to ground. Could be mistaken though.
10. £24 down to £19 for EB Slinkies? Bloody hell, that's still about a fiver more than you should be paying even if you like the sound they give.
11.
Oh dear. That was a bit harsh, wasn't it? The world needs a few people around doing weird, pointless stuff. It would be a bit boring otherwise. None of these instruments appeal to me in the slightest, by the way.
No, I don't think it's too harsh, he's taken a perfectly good bass, ironically a tool for making art in a muscial fashion, and trashed it. If it wasn't for the metal strip, the cable tie and the missing frets/fretboard sections all on the neck, and it was properly playable, it would be a great piece of art, as yes, it would show off being a "punk" bass so to speak and could actually be used. Form while emphasising it's functional role. You know what, I'm thinking of getting a nice artist's paint brush, snapping it in two, then using electrical or duct tape to put it back together so it's a bit wobbly, I might even attack the bristles with a pair of blunt scissors. I'll claim it's representive of the the attitudes that artists' have before they make it big and get lots of money from their works, their lack of money and resolve to keep trying and producing art, even if their lives are breaking down and they're having to stuggle and sacrifice for their art. Then I'll sell it and be rich! Or at least, not as poor. Hell, I could do an entire gallery piece on different tools of the trade, obviously lot's of art based ones, I could do a harp with some of the thicker wires replaced by electrical wire and have industrial staples holding bits together with healthy dollops of hard as nails for example, perhaps I could even do laptops held together with 'laccy bands and parcel tape!
12. Yes you can. Once you've attached it and it's uploaded to BC Central, just right click on the image and get it's location (or from IE, grab the url from the address bar). Then just copy and paste the url between
13. That's rather interesting, Oranges' foray into the midpriced bass range via a hybrid amp? I'll be interested in reviews in 6 months time.
14.
Who the hell cares what you play or don't play as long as it's relevant to you?It doesn't matter if it's a fifteen minute slap solo or the two-note bassline from White Lines...if it's you that's playing it,you that's trying it then buying it then I say don't give a tuppeny toss about what some muso-fascist may or may not think is "too much" or "too little." Just play what YOU like!!
Calm down, grab a Tango, it's hardly a vast philosophical question demanding strong answers and emotions. I occasionally plan "Cant Stop" by the chillies, the intro bass riffage is quite nice as per a normal Flea line.
15. The things people do in the name of "art". Twat.
16. Maple necks? I'm pretty sure Fender have been offering Maple necks since their inception of the Telebass, infact, I'd go as far to say that probably >95% of all Fenders have Maple necks, might be some custom shops and or prototypes using something different though. Now, Maple fretboards on the other hand are a completely different matter and it's nice to see them on their lower ranges.
17. With basses I do the hardware check, check random frets depending on the setup incase there's any nasty buzzing, perhaps do some major scales to see how it sounds, then do a few riffs and the opening of a couple of classical pieces such as Ode to Joy, Greensleeves and Fur Elise. Occasionally do the opening Anesthesia as well, but that's almost to basses what Stairway or Smoke is to guitars, same as the main bass riff for Master of Puppets, Love Cats or Sunshine of Your Love (that one could just be my mates though). I'm interested in how it plays, soundwise (as long as it's alright acoustically) can be changed fairly easily on most basses so I ignore it to a large part, but feel can't.
18.
I hope all venues shut down and music dies....* *Conform, consume, obey.
OBEY:
19. They're both fairly important. I really need to start theory learning properly rather than the occasional dabble, and reading is reading. I can some some basic reading of treble clef thanks to playing the Trumpet back at the start of my teens, but nothing more than basic stuff, occasionally I dabble to keep a hand in so to speak by either finding a piece and playing from clef or transcribing, be damned if I could do rthymn with it as I've forgotten the length of the crochetts, quavers etc (full? half? quater? 8th? etc), so I need to hear the music as well. This forum is a goldmine for that info though.
20. Yay! Always nice to see a budding bassist get their first bass, the Vintage should be a goodun as well.
21. Why? If you want a 1960 Jazz bass, get a normal 1960 Jazz Bass for fair bit less, and quite frankly it's not going to be made special for Entwistle, it's probably an off the shelf one, and quite suprising that one from an ex gigging musician seems to be in perfect nick, could it be a dog?
22. It's missing a scratchplate imo, but that maple top is quite flash. Also lovin' the rosewood and blocks, very 70's.
23. +1 to what Kev said about the PD7. It's alright, the attack modes I pretty much leave off, it adds hiss as a well as picking up fret noise and making the highs much much harsher. S'got a good range of sounds though thanks to the onboard 2eq though, it just doesn't grab me. And avoid the Berhinger Tube Drive OD, the lower one of the 2 I own, it's not very good and far to hissy, although someone on here did buy the better one for the extra £15 and with the onboard filter and EQ it was quite a good pedal. Could be down to the Berhinger branded tube in it though, might replace it at some point for a proper branded one with lower gain. It goes from OD to full on crunchy distortion far too easily with the stock valve. If you're going boutique, look into DHA pedals (check the subforum on here), his valve OD gets rave reviews.
24. And you call yourself Punk Wayne, jeeeeeeeeze.
25. I know you were planning on edging away from a Jazz, but the Geddy Lee offically has the thinnest neck depthwise of all the Fenders and a normal width size as per a normal Jazz. For clarification, when you say thinnist, do you mean width (ala, nut width) or depth of the neck?
