3. I would think the need for that is negated by the low cost - meaning you can have twice as much power on tap for less money?
4. Here's mine Kiwis is exactly the same but black and rebranded by someone else, mine only says 'D800'. Kiwi's was advertised as a 'Technical Pro DA-B3000' Search for Technical Pro on eBay at the moment and there are some powersoft lookalikes but haven't tried one of those.... Cheers ped
5. Me and Kiwi both have very similar amps - mine is a 'noname' 800w digital stereo 1u poweramp and kiwis is 1200w I think. You can get them from the states via eBay and the voltage is switchable. Mine is really shallow, like a rack tuner. Amazing bit of kit, full, strong sound and very cheap. Mine was £90 second hand and I think Kiwi paid about £150 all in. I will get a link later as I can't use eBay at work. I wouldn't have any worries trying the Thomann one, probably very similar internally to much more expensive ones. Well worth a try, I think. If anything, the Thomman one seems expensive in comparison!
6. P.s I can't see the pics because work blocks photobucket etc but I bet it's gorgeous!
7. Modded budget basses are cool. One of the most enjoyable basses I have had was an OLP MM3 with a status neck. It was just groovy and fun, in a way which is impossible to replicate by throwing money away in search of it.
8. That test is actually something different - what you see by pressing the first and last fret is the RELIEF of the neck, i.e how much bow there is in the neck. Some people like a bit of bow to compensate against clank when playing. They say the 'textbook' amount is a credit card's thickness under the middle of the neck between the string and the fret when the string is pressed at the first and last frets (actually I think they normally say about the 3rd and 17th fret) Personally I like almost no relief at all, so I would look for a bass with a perfectly straight neck, or as near as I could get. I can then get my action super low, and because i play very lightly, it suits my style and growls when I dig in. Different strokes for different folks! Cheers ped
9. Here is Dood trying to get into the shower:
10. Pete did you email us to ask if it was OK to post this? Just to let you know we hadn't checked the inbox for a while but I skimmed it last night and meant to reply to your email to say it was fine - apologies for not getting back to you before. I am looking forward to seeing Steely Dan on the 29th - I have seen lots of tribute acts before and often found them better than the real deal! Will definitely check you guys out soon! ped
11. I am a fan - I like Mama's Gun and Baduizm Live. I listened to some others quickly with a view to buying them soon but got a bit turned off by the slightly more 'electric' direction - drum machines and so on. The live version of Boogie Nights has a lovely slap break in it and is a really well produced live album.
12. V4 manual here mate Definitely call Watford Valves as SS73 says. They often have stock sitting around. I managed to get a matched set of valves for a 400+ for about £100 from them. Cheers ped
13.
Haha, I knew that was going to turn up sooner or later! I have, of course, but they get used already during the set, so getting back to the 'right' level every time isn't going to be particularly reliable. I need something idiot-proof that I don't have to fiddle with in the dark on stage.
Pah, just admit it - you want a new toy!! :0)

16. Hi Mike, Ditto Duarte's comments - well it inspired me to pick up my bass and try doing something similar, albeit in a far more ham fisted manner. I have to admit I am not a fan of those sort of drum tracks though, I find them a bit grooveless, but that's just me! Keep them coming mate! ped
17. You got volume knobs on the basses? ;0)
18. going to close this for a bit so I can catch up later. It shouldn't have been posted yet and isn't final as I haven't checked it yet.
19. No. I don't know yet! Haven't caught up with the night shift yet. Possibly didn't read the mods forum bit. All looks fine to me except that bit so ignore it for now!
20. tbh I don't remember reading and agreeing with that bit. Need to have a look at the state of play this evening as I'm busy all day.
21. I should think that if Alex has permission he can reproduce the review on his site or here, so maybe we can all see it when that is clarified.

23.
All this sounds good, Ped. It seems that many problems seem to stem from non-observance of 'The Guidelines'. I'm thinking specifically about vendettas against mods, failure to 'agree to disagree'. Will the guidelines be amended and / or strengthened, maybe by an appropriate reference in the T&C's?
Hi mate, The whole structure needs to be - for want of a better word - 'dehumanised'. I agree that part of what we want to get away from is any degree of flexibility when it comes to the guidelines (so they will indeed be revamped and updated a bit for the sake of clarity) so everyone knows where they stand. For example, on Talkbass I got a warning for using a particular swear word and I simply had a notch added with a link to the guideline I had broken. It is much simpler and 'cleaner' and should mean we spend less time having to argue the toss with people who think they have been done a gross injustice! I really hope this isn't coming across as us wanting to tell you off more - quite the opposite. It is really to address shortcomings we should have foreseen a while back, but we didn't really anticipate such massive growth so quickly. Cheers, hope that answers your question, sort of? :0) ped
