1. So many voices, so many genres. Jack Bruce Chris Thompson Annie Haslam Linda Lewis for range Steve Marriot is a good shout, what a unique guy he was.
2. Welcome from another Thames Valley sufferer.
3. Seeing the Owen Paul cock up reminds me of another cock up.... All About Eve and Marth's Harbour.
4. Northern Lights (No, theyre not cigarettes) by Renaissance Journey by Duncan Browne Sweet Dreams, Roy Buccanan
5. Sounds of the Suburbs, by the Members?? Echo Beach, Martha and the Muffins Loads of my obscure faves aready here.
6. I like a lot of different music, and I'm a blues rocker at heart. But if you listen to XTC, and see how they evolved from punk to writing some of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard it's breathtaking and rather Beatles like 20 years on. Mere words cannot express how highly I rate XTC, both as musicians and writers. Kings for a Day? Naw, Kings for life. If you've got time, look on YouTube for Andy Partridge guitar lesson, (or similar). 2 separate 10 minute videos of some American guitat shredding magazine staff writer trying to talk on level terms with English Oddball AP, both hilarious and enlightening at the same time, also it shows AP as a gifted guitarist who plays odd things because he's odd, not because he hadn't learned properly like I suspected before I saw the videos. He ends the second video with paper across the strings by the bridge to mute them playing "Any Old Iron". I kid you not. In short, I love 'em.
7. Actually saw it when first televised, perks of being an old git I s'pose. MK cracks me up, well they all do. I wish I'd been there for the Johnny Be Goode jam though. NOW WITH THE BOOK!
8. About a year ago I phoned their Epsom shop on friday afternoon to ask if they could get a bass in from another branch for me to look at the next day. Waited for the call on saturday which I got around 1.00pm to say "it's here". Saw it, played it, liked it, mugged them for a price match AND interest free, and took it home that day.
9. I'm sure I heard that Bowie had sited Lorde as being the future of music......... Wasn't she the one who made "Royal"? I thought the band were brilliant, the backdrop stunning, and Lorde so-so. Could have been anyone as far as I'm concerned.
10. Just to update, I have order a 5 CD set of Little Feat from Amazon which should arrive today, also Hazards of Love by the Decemberists. Should be a good day, one of the benefits of working in a workshop alone!!!
11. Thanks for the input chaps. I will check out your comments. I have a LF album, As time goes by IIRC with the Duck/Bogart cartoon on the front. Will give another listen to that, visit Amazon for some CDs and then jump to the Little Feat thread on this very forum. Oh, and the Decemberists, I did have a CD by them that my daughter did for me. I remember a song about a man who's lady kept giving birth, and he lept killing the babies. Odd, but remember it as being interesting music. I wonder what happened to the CD, must look in the car......
12. 30 odd years ago, a workmate lent me The Captain and Me, and Stampede, both of which I have loved and play regularly. I recently bought from Amazon, from a series entitled "Original Album Series" a box set (loads of choices, all 5 albums for around a tenner a set, worth checking out) containing the 2 albums I already had plus Tolouse Street, Vices/Habits, and Taking it to the streets. I'm loving them so much I'm hungry for more. Are there any more albums than the 5 I have? I love the country rock feel particularly of the Doobies, but can anyone recommend me someone else to check out. We all know and love the Eagles of course, but there may well be some lesser known gens that I can lose myself in. A little less keen on the later, Michael McDonald more soulful albums (sorry Mike!) Thanks in advance
13.
No regrets from me - the Root Beer Metallic finish on mine is top quality and has attracted some positive comments. Managed to get an Ibanez Mikro gig bag at a good price, so now the whole thing fits in my coat pocket ("Is that an Ibanez Mikro, or are you just pleased to see me?")
14. I have B2A fretted and fretless. Love them both dearly, but the playing position is odd until you get used to them. I tried a Steinberger last weekend, don't know what it was but it was similar ro the B2A and 5 string, weighed a ton with a really thick body, but at least it had the strap extender on it so would sit on you more like a horned bass. Always liked the sound of mine until I changed from another bass to the fretless B2 during a rehearsal a couple of weeks ago, and it sounded really flat even in active mode. Fair enough, being fretless it has flats on, be it sounded rubbish and I didn't have time to mess around with it at the time. I shall be taking another look at it soon.
15. So, how are you chaps getting on with your shorties??? I tried the GSRM yesterday and apart from the body finish loved it. It was walnut flat, which I personally reckon is one coat of stain, and easy to scratch. But if you buy one and like it, perhaps you'd never go back to 34"? I found the string tensions quite nice and easy to bend which I liked. Only one way to find out really.
16. Grunt: An utterance made when lifting your 8 x 10 into the van
17.
I like all sorts of pop music, never been worried about things being "uncool", but Gilbert O'Sullivan is one of just a small handful of acts I really can't enjoy (even odder considering I really quite like Dean Friedman's Lucky Stars). I did think it was an oldie until I heard it for the third time in three days.
Lucky Stars was so cheezy it was brilliant. Even better in my opinion was Arierl (spelling), great bass on it.
18. Better than some modern alternatives I'd say.
19. Shiver me timbers Jimbaby!!! That looks fabulous for the money. I wonder of it's from the same factory as Thamann's Harley Benton one.
