According to an (expired) ad on Reverb, this weighs 14kg (just under 31 pounds in old money): "Ashdown has worked in conjunction with Mark King create an amplifier which meets the UK bass legend’s requirements for absolute fidelity and clarity, precision tone shaping and masses of power on tap for stunning dynamics. The result is the AL-MK500, a 575 Watts RMS funk powerhouse with low impedance instrument input, illuminated VU meter, Harmonic Emphasis, 12-band graphic EQ, switchable pre and post EQ balanced DI output, tuner output with mute switch, line output, effects loop and speaker outputs on jack and Speakon connectors. "This amp takes my sound to a whole new level" reports a delighted Mr King. "It's so dynamic, so alive!" If spending over 1k on a new/nearly-new bass I want something pristine! -

I had a ponder about that ex demo SG bass but decided against it. In case you are interested, it weighs 7.46 pounds and I have some pictures of the scratch I could send you? -

Just agreed to buy a PJB mini combo for my double bass from Rhys. Friendly comms and I am sure it will be just the ticket for small gigs and practice. Cheers!

Danny T and John Martyn at their most affecting

Ink in the Well was my first exposure to DB too, always loved DT's sinuous growly bass line(s) on that song. Orpheus on a later DS album Secrets of the Beehive is also wonderful -

Adrian bought a rather marvellous archtop Takamine TB-10 bass from me and trusted me to hand over to a pal of his for transport up to the Lake District from London. Top guy. Enjoy!!!

+1 to this suggestion. I have seen a ton of jazz bassists use MarkBass gear (eg, back line at the Jazz Cafe) and for trio/quartets this combo is very popular. Good with DB (use a preamp in front for impedance matching and feedback control) and for electric bass.

This always stays with me as utterly beautiful. Wistful vocals and Danny Thompson as super DB support. And if you don't like it, each to their own!

I would not buy a bass from this man, even though he can guarantee there is no buckle rash

I wonder if long, luxuriant back hair counts? Note: for the avoidance of doubt, I would also fail on this count, thankfully

... but are you "willing to dress up a little bit crazy and move around on stage to contribute to exciting performances"?
