1.
Hell of a coincidence? I may be driving up your way on Saturday Clarky so if things get messy let me know C
Thanks Chris, will see what happens. As an alternative has anyone tried those ultra-cheapo (£20-30) home-made looking pickups on eBay by J-tone - if these are OK it might be useful to have one as a backup in the gig bag just in case ....
2.
Maybe not the solution you're looking for if you're suspecting the APT-Flex caused the Contra death - but you're welcome to borrow mine. I could have it in the post tomorrow morning, guaranteed next day delivery. Leave me a PM if that's an option and I'll get it tomorrow morning - having an early night tonight. Gigs and 2 year olds don't mix.
That kind Gareth but for the sake of non-f*ck-up-ability its probably best if I use a pickup of the type that I know didn't cause a problem before, like my old Shadow. Thanks for the offer though matey!
3.
Mate, I have two you could borrow but am away tomorrow and Thursday. I could take one with me and post when I get there, but I'm worried it might not make it 9I won;t be able to post until Thursday). Alternatively I could ask Mrs Beedster to do the honours? PS does this explain the Contra? C
No worries mate, hopefully someone else is able to do the honours on this occasion The faulty Contra doesn't work with my Eminence either (equipped with Realist). It may be the ATPflex that somehow knackered my Contra though ....
4. Well I just sold my perfectly functioning Shadow piezo pickup to Baboom, having taken last week ownership of an ATPflex-Electret from Lando Music in Germany. The new pickup has stopped working ( ) and I have a big gig (potentially 500+ audience) on Saturday. I have just packaged up the ATPflex to send back to Lando but obviously I won't get a replacement in time. So pretty please does someone have a piezo pickup (Shadow/Underwood/similar for ease of instalment) that they could post to me and I could borrow for the gig? I would need it by Friday (so I have time to instal and try out). I would then package up and post back immediately on Sunday? I would cover p&p via paypal and hopefully buy you a pint at some stage My alternative is to fork out for a new pickup and end up selling one, obviously at my usual BC loss!
5.
Bad enough, the only set compatible set the current gauge (45-65-85-105) is the Rotosound (Rotosound RS 77LD Jazz Bass Flatwound monel) If I'm going to change the gauge, where shoud I be careful ? I understood that the neck must be checked, but can I bring the bass, let them ajdust the neck and done ? Thanks!
If you have a truss rod tool and you are getting similar gauge strings (they really do not have to be identical) you could follow some of the advice on BassChat and adjust the neck yourself. This isn't a scary thing to do! I don't know Cort basses but its probably very simple, like turning the truss rod screw a fraction of a turn (clockwise to tighten the neck if the strings are too far from the board, anti-clockwise to loosen the neck if the strings are rattling on the board)
6. Thomastik Infeld J344 Jazz flats ('TI Flats') are very popular on this forum but lighter gauge than I think yuo would like. In which case you could try La Bella Deep Talkin Flatwounds or D'Addario Chromes, each of which come in several gauges including gauges very close to your current strings. All are good choices in my opinion. A cheaper option would be Rotosound Flats, which some like but I am not so keen on as I find them quite stiff.
7. Rotosound in the 60s IIRC. A certain Mr Entwistle championed them I think Edit from their PR blurb: "Rotosound pioneered the first roundwound bass strings in 1962"
8. Like Lemmy's fabulous quote “That was a great time, the summer of '71 - I can't remember it, but I'll never forget it!”
9.
Has the one on the right just remembered he forgot to put the rolled up sock down the front of his trousers?
You could always try dropping Jack a PM to ask
10. Perhaps a BassChat hairband? Here's MacDaddy, silddx, Low End Bee and Happy Jack at the King George in Chiswick last week
11.
I too like the wristband idea but it does involve some poor sod having to do the leg work! I vote matching tattoos which neither of us had on at the last Case Hardin show
Mrs C appears to have hidden my BC t-shirt
12.
Nah, that looks sh*te over my 'Gene Simmons' outfit....
I'd like a load of BC'ers to turn up to one of silddx's funky, cool gigs all wearing Kiss outfits
13. there's always the uber-cool BassChat T-shirts, of which I am a proud owner
14. Just bought an Acoustic Image combo off Keith. He was great to deal with, as per all the previous feedback. Its sitting waiting at home for me, so I haven't tried it yet. But I have no doubt it will be a cracking piece of kit and well looked after Many thanks Keith! Now if only it had been your Kolstein, not a combo
15. Just sold Tim a DB pickup. Great comms and fast payment. All good
16.
+ 1, and I have bought and sold and traded a lot of stuff on here! Sorry to hear your experiences have been bad The Greek
Likewise, I am on to (speaks quietly) 7 pages of feedback now and have not had a deal go wrong or become unpleasant yet. I've had a couple of occasions where people tried out the kit and it wasn't for them but thats fair enough - pics and a description are not always a good substitute for getting something in your hands and trying out. Sorry your experiences have been a bit cr@p, the Greek, but I can assure you they will not all be like that on this forum
17.
What's the waiting time like from The Bass Gallery?
Haven't checked but GuitarGuitar say the delay is down to Aguilar, so I am guessing the waiting time will be the same
18. Trying to decide whether to get a refund or just to sit it out ... pants
19. Gahhhh. Placed order for Tone Hammer head with GuitarGuitar on 23 March when they told me these were due "within a week or so". They emailed me today, after I asked for an update on the ETA, to say "4-6 weeks away still" Not impressed
20. Is he the man at AI Europe in Carlisle? In which case it was him I spoke to.
21.
Check out with Customs tho about the amp coming back to you. Unless you notify them they will charge you import duties on the amp coming back. Not nice. I had this explained once when checking about doing the same thing - sending an amp back to the US for repair. There's some sort of form you need to fill in to register that you already own the amp before you send it of. Doesn't guarantee you won't get hit with import duties but it should help reduce them.
Thanks for the heads up Gareth. Hadn't occurred to me about getting charged import duty.
22.
Clarky, it's not as loud as the CMD121P you recently parted with (I tried them both side by side when I got the Markbass).
Thanks Alan. Was just thinking laterally in case my Acoustic Image combo was permanently knackered. Just come off phone from AI though and they say I can get it repaired for free ... if I send it back to the US ... but at least its salvageable
23. Postscript - AI Europe say that it can be repaired/re-conditioned for free but that I will need to send it to AI in the States to do this. A pain but at least it doesn't sound like it will cost an arm and a leg, just shipping costs. Damn nuisance timing-wise as I have a gig on Saturday
24. Hi there, is this combo loud enough in your opinion for use on-stage with a 14 piece band (my lot, Rattlin Bone, has full brass section, guitar, sousaphone, drums, vocals and three backing vocals)? Thanks
25. OK, I guess this rules everyone out We are onstage 12.45-1.45am Do zombies wear nightcaps and bed socks?
