Do TruBass strings feel less plastick-y with time?
Clarky replied to Clarky's topic in Accessories and Misc
I've had a set on my Status Groove bass for about 3 years, and although I hardly play it, they still feel like they did the day I put them on, whih feels lke they've been on for ages, if you see what I mean! So if you want my opinion, no, they don't change (but like I said, they've hardly been played anyway)....so maybe they do change.....I've twisted myself into a rght knot there!
I understand .... I think Thanks mate! -
I've got TruBass strings on my '71 P/J fretless and on my newly acquired Herbie Flowers replica Jazz (made by BC's wesfinn). They sound fantastic through an amp but when played acoustically sound and feel plastick-y (yes I know they are supposed to be amplified but I practice without an amp usually, generally late at night). Question is, do they feel less plastick-y with time as they absorb air pollutants, sweat, oils etc, and become worn-in and smoother feeling like normal flatwounds? Or do they stay feeling as they do fresh out of the packet?
Is that a reissue 70's bass or a very well kept 70's bass with upgraded bridge? Very nice whichever
More pics here Gareth http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...hl=roger+waters Great score there Sam, superb paint job. +1 on the comments above about the RA, mate

A BC'er came round to buy the combo this evening and tried it out first with his active Jazz. With the bass in the active input socket it randomly produced some intermittent buzz/crackle on lower booming notes. As I don't have an active bass (I play Fender Ps and Js) I had never used this input socket and therefore never noticed the problem before. I could get this fixed at the Gallery but TBH its a PITA for a combo I am looking to sell, especially as the majority of bass players play passive basses (like me) and would never encounter any problem with the combo. So my proposal is £500 for the combo in its current state - if you're a passive bass player, you just saved £100 and you would never be affected by the active input issue. If you're an active bass player you would have to have it seen to and may therefore have no interest, although hopefully the price (the lowest I have seen a Walkabout advertised at) may counter-balance this.

I have tried a couple of single piezo pickups on my DB, the Schatten RB1 and TM, and - although they both come highly recommended as loud, low-feedback, good quality pickups - they just don't work as well as a good old Shadow 950 on my particular bass. I guess it must be something to do with the nature of my bass (ply sides/back, carved front), the bridge (adjustable) and the wing slots on it. So I am moving them on The Schatten is literally less than one day old. I paid £102 plus £5 post for it from the importers, Sandarac http://www.sandarac.co.uk/schatten-design-bass-pickups.php, and got it in the post this morning. I will move it on for £90 posted, saving you £17 (c.15%) for the sake of one hour's use only. Stock pic: The TM (Taco Man) I bought from slobluesine a few weeks back and I will include a Lando music pickup clamp, so you can clamp it to your tailpiece. £55 posted. Acoustic Image Coda Series III two-channel combo
Clarky replied to Clarky's topic in EUBs & Double Basses For Sale
Having played some more with my alternative rig options I am withdrawing this combo. At low/medium volumes nothing touches this (at least that I have heard) for natural and faithful DB sound reproduction. While my band Rattlin Bone demands a loud rig (for which I will use my Baggs/F1/Midget), I may as well keep this combo for home/practice use and who knows I may end up in a band that isn't as loud some day - in which event I would be lucky to buy something this good for such a good price. So I'm keeping it -
What is supposedly a '62 Jazz... I don't know enough to tell if it is..could be the bargain of the century.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-1962-Jazz-Bas...=item3f09ba4509
Thats a 62RI and they tend to go on BC for about £750-900, so I'm afraid its not much of a bargain at £950

Amp for upright sound from a fretless bass guitar?
Clarky replied to Rob MacKillop's topic in Amps and Cabs
If you want uncoloured maybe stick with Phil Jones? Take a look at this for example http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=Phil+Jones I doubt a DB-specific amp would help you (I have an Acoustic Image Coda combo but thats chock full of features that would be of no benefit to an electric bass, eg feedback control; plus its FS at £700!) -
Another fast delivery of a high quality speaker cable from Dave

During most of the existence of my old punk band, I played TI Flats on a P-bass. Sounded ace. Low tension yes, but that helped me play very fast pick lines without 'jamming' the pick on the strings occasionally (which I tend to do with higher tension strings)
