1.
+1 to that. Big fan of the fretless P myself.....
now that is a proper tort s/p, beautiful
2. Very nice indeed Nick. Good work mate
3.
do they come out spot on from a tracing ?
Sorry for silly-sounding answer but I guess it depends on the accuracy of the tracing. Its much better to send Howard the original I would guess so he can cut to exact proportions and - most importantly - site the screw holes identically. I am just the monkey, best to drop a PM directly to Bass Doc
4. Moving this beautiful instrument back up for sale again as Mr_Bassman (aka Keith) is selling his removable neck version of the same bass and I would like to replace mine with his, for added flexibility with travelling. Keith's is newer (was originally bought in NYC by BC'er Greg Cordez) and worth a bit more than mine, so I have to sell first in order to buy
5. Not sure about a drop-in replacement but as a backstop you could send a tracing of (or the original pickguard) to Howard the Bass Doc and he will make you a top quality replacement
6. Its a new signature 5-stringer, tuned E-C. Will cost a cool $9,999 http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2012/08/01/alembic-unveils-stanley-clarke-signature-deluxe-5-string-bass/
7. He could be a wonderful composer too, when he set his mind to it. 'Three views of a secret' is a beautiful track. Here's the Weather Report original, I couldn't find a link for Jaco's 'Word of Mouth' big band version (which I prefer)
8.
BTW is it the use of Europe or Nirvana that you object to?
To quote Louis Armstrong "If you have to ask, you'll never know"
9. Just heard this on the radio, a mix of Smells like teen spirit and Final countdown. Could it get any more smart@arsed and plain wrong than this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rr06IyWMf4Y
10. Here are some sound files comparing a number of mic's and pickups, including the Ehrlund http://doublebassguide.com/?p=654 To my mind the Ehrlund and DPA 4099 ace it, including versus the pickup on my DB (Full Circle). Got me thinking too ...
11. Traded for a super nice fretless Fender
12. Just to be clear, having had a trade offer for one of the remaining pedals, these are for sale only as my band's guitarist is looking to raise cash towards a new acoustic guitar amp.
13. Not sure if I've posted this already. This is a gig where our mandolin player couldn't make it and I used the Takamine acoustic rather than DB. Sound quality not great but you get the picture http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuaFpXdnJyU&feature=channel&list=UL
14. Top work, at that rate of progress you will be the best bass player on BC within 2 years
15. Around the start of his Weather Report stint he played on a Pat Metheny album called Bright Size Life which I think contains some of his freshest playing. Here is a taster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RX2cPUs-ot0
16. If you want to read about his life I recommend this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jaco-Extraordinary-Tragic-Life-Pastorius/dp/0879308591
17.
This my friends is wonderful
The orange Stingray certainly is, shame about the fugly blocks on the bass in front
18. Bottom line is Fodera have been going since 1983. If their instruments didn't sell at their price point, they wouldn't exist any more.
19.
This old chestnut again...
Yep. Could I also add that - in the grand scheme of things - basses are IMHO exceptionally good value for the enjoyment they produce, whether they cost a few hundred or several thousand. Other instruments can cost vastly more (check out the Upton double bass site that has an advert for a DB that it says is suitable for a progressing student, a bargain at a cool $20k) and other hobbies* are much more expensive. We have had people on the site telling us how much they spend on archery or stock car racing and this makes even a Fodera look like small change! Its all relative init? * apart from meditation!
20. Thanks for the tips Mike. They are so much cheaper that a bit of extra time/hassle sounds worth it
21. Not without pictures! Check your profile and go to Manage Attachments section. Delete old photos there and this will restore the 'memory' on your account so you can post up pictures Good luck
22. FYI, got quote back from DiscWizards and its more than a third cheaper than every other quote I have had. £450 + VAT for 1000 glass-mastered CDs in a card sleeve. They also say they will beat any other quote (not that they don't already) so this is in pole position now
23. Thanks Uncle P and BRX. Will drop Discwizards an email too
24. Well I have had two quotes now for glass mastered CDs in cardboard sleeves, both about £950 for 1,000. Thats more than we had anticipated so may have to go plastic jewel case route. I have asked one of the two companies to re-quote for plastic jewel case just to see what the differential would be
25. Next up for ATQR is a headline slot on Thursday 20th September on one of the 'Cool as folk' evenings at Hackney Attic Link here: http://www.picturehouses.co.uk/cinema/Hackney_Picturehouse/film/Cool_As_Folk_All_The_Queen_S_Ravens_Lo_Behold_Abbey_Bowden/:
