1. Leave unplugged from mains. Unscrew lid & look at jack socket. Push springy bit with small flat screwdriver towards centre of jack's diamiter. Check solder & resolder if neccessary.
2. I take it your bass has no PA support? I'd go for either a 2x10 or 1x15 8Ω cab & then add a 2nd identical one stacked vertically. I wouldn't worry about trying to get the full 350 watts out your head to one cab as no one will notice the difference at a gig. Have a look in the "cabs for sale" on here.
3. Always wanted to play Phat basslines? Does your bass sound thin in the mix? Then you need LARD! LARD will fatten up your bass making it possible to produce those phat bass lines that you've always dreamed of and a 250g block can be yours for just £27.99! Just PM me today with some money & I'll send you a free sample* So what are you waiting for? Get your bass fattened up NOW!!! *To be eligible for a free sample you will be required to send just £9.99 to cover postage & cutting charges.
4. Unlocked? A bit like opening a floodgate! I've never seen a thread so busy. I'm with Alex on this one in respect of his rights as a consumer, but if he likes the bass loads & obviously felt it was worth the money when buying it & if it still plays just as well, then what's the issue other than it's not all from the crap era it was supposed to be from? After this thread, it might actually be more valuable!
5. As a pick player, you should try double thumbing. Instead of this being some porn related manouvre, it is effectively using your thumb as a pick. Try it by resting your index finger on your thumb (as if holding a pick) to start with if needed & hopefully you'll start to get to use the other fingers as well. I'm new to this technique, but finding it fun. The secret to playing with fingers is just practice. All of a sudden it'll come to you & you'll wonder where the trouble came from.
6. Nope, don't do anything for me
7. I've just started messing more with the VLE & VPF in conjunction with one another & getting some brilliant mixes by putting them both somewhere between 10 & 12 o'clock. Suits my fuzzy filtered sound very nicely. I still want to add a sub.
8. I've just bought 2 AKG D5s off iMuso for £49 a piece. Will let you know how they are either Sunday night or Monday sometime (will be getting used on Sunday).
9. I've tried a few MarkBass rigs & never had boomy (unless on a wooden stage) or muddy (without intention). Could be anything tho. The bass, the room & so on.
10.
The cost of building and finishing cabinets hasn't come down much.
Like Ampeg?
11. I use a Boss CE-2 (borrowed from guitarist) & it sounds very nice. Not tried any other choruses tho.
12. I found one before from MarkBass. Got a RoqSolid & it does the job very well. Edit: Here we go.
13.
hey guys, nice discussion. would a 500 watt terror head be able to power two SP212's well or will it simply not have enough power for two? (i know they are 600w individually so not possible to go to max output)?
If your head puts out 500 watts @ 4 ohm & your cabs are 8 ohms each then they'll get upto 250 watts each. The SP cabs are (on paper) a good match.
14. Speakers move air. If you have 2 2x10 cabs running 300w at 4Ω it's gonna move a lot more air than a single 12" 4Ω or 2x10 4Ω. if you get 2 identical 2x10s with the exception that one is 8Ω & the other is 4Ω, you'll be hard pushed to hear the extra db from the 4Ω & just be restricting yourself to adding extra cabs unless your amp runs at 2Ω (which I don't think yours does). To answer a bit more of your Qs, the first part you've answered yourself correctly. The 12" wouldn't move as much air as your 15" or a 2x10".
15. I was going to say go for an octaver & some fuzz, but Dan beat me to it. If you want to hear an average bassist filling the gaps in a trio, then listen to some of Van Halen's first couple of albums (preferably tracks without overdubs ).
16. If it was me, I'd go with the LM3 & 2 102 cabs stacked vertically but not before trying out the other offerings from Markbass & also trying out some TC, GenzBenz & whatever else I could find (as I did before going with the Markbass combo). If you love the Orange sound then why not try a Terror thru a couple of MB 102s? Might tick your boxes.
17. Usually bundled Cubase is Cubase LE. A stripped down, simple version (not even sure if it supports VSTis) but it's fins for a notepad & getting some simple recording done on. Have you thought about using Reaper for your work-ish things?
18. If you can stretch £6-700 will get you a 2nd hand MarkBass 2x10 combo or a s/h LMII & a decent cab. MB can give you a very clear sound & the filters allow for a good range from muddy wool to hifi.
19. I tried daisychaining my MF-101 & it hummed like a fridge. Got an adaptor that was for some Phillips appliance (electric screwdriver I think) & is +tip 11v & runs it fine. The moogs will run on anything from 9-15v. Oddly, the Murf doesn't mind being on a daisychain. Great pedals, good luck with the sale.
20. I'm gonaa have a look at this when I get home as it's one of my fave songs to play on guitar. I've never tried it on bass. Cheers
21. If you're happy with MarkBass then what about one of the two LM 800's or the SD1200? Or there's the MoMark option too! If you fancy a change of brand, then the GenzBenz Streamliner 900 & the TC Electronic RH750 look rather tasty. Edited to say, you should book a day with somewhere like the Bass Merchant or Bass Direct & take the Compact & your bass along.
22. I started on keys when I was a kid & played for years then found bass. So my order is thus: 1, Bass 2, Acoustic Guitar 3, Keys (Synths) 4, Electric Guitar Other things I play, but not to an audience: Drums, Violin, Banjo, Mandolin, Harmonica, Trumpet & Tenor Horn. It's good knowing how ither instruments work, especially when writing songs.
23. I'd put a sicker on my cases (that's what cases are for). Maybe a hat would be the best idea, a pointy one for when I stand at the back in the corner (where the bassist usually stands ).
24. You could try playing VSTis at home & see how the latency is, but a hardware synth module could be picked up fairly cheaply (or dearly if budget allows).
25. I got my Pedalboard case from them. Good solid case.
