Like Flyfisher says, use your ears & if it sounds bad, turn it down/back the lower frequencies off.

The Platfoam ended up costing £17 odd with postage. I know the Grama pad also has some V foam under it too (you could pop some eggbox between the strips of foam). If you take this into account & the cost of some board, carpet, glue & staples (for the carpet), then the Grama pad is better value. However, if like me you have all but the foam to hand, then it's a no brainer. I might make mine a fold up one so it fits in my bag.

They're 4 foot long by 4x2 inch. I bought a strip of Platfoam last week & cut it in 1/2 & put it straight under my cab. Did the job. I was gonna glue it to a bit of chipboard that I have & carpet it, but it was easier to carry the 2 strips in a bag with all the cables. I'm gonna complete the project later (maybe tomorrow).

Like bartleby says. I A/B'd the results & I'm too deaf to tell the difference between a usb mixer & the mic socket. I'll upload the A/B recording later today.

Aguilar, EBS & so on all make great amps, but if you get something custom made then that's gonna make your sound unique. I'd go with the custom jobby.
Any top tips for someone who's been playing fingerstyle for (mumble) years and wants to try a pick?
Buy one & try it. I tend to go for .74mm picks, but will play with any thickness. Same advice as to playing using any other method, start simple & then do alternating strings & so on. The pick is a useful tool to have.

The video plays perfectly fine here too (can't play them on the iPhone though ).

My style is the opposite of Muzz's. I play a lot with fingers & a couple with pick. It depends on the style of song really. The songs I use pick on, I have tried finger style & just don't work. It needs that clang.

Just a thought, I believe YouTube now allows you to upload mahoosivee sized files with no probs.

The other option that no one has come up with is sell your EBS cab & get an 8 ohm version. On another note I wouldn't mix speaker sizes. Yes, you can mix them, but whether it'll sound any good or not will vary from venue to venue. Also, I'd not go with the 6x10 (or 4x10) unless you normally use PA & just want the rig for your own monitor as it has a lower diepersion than 2 2x10s (or 2x12s) stacked vertically.
Best of luck mate!
Cheers. It went well. Had a really good sound too! We recorded some of the pre rehearsal, so if it's came out ok, I'll post it.

First gig last night with my Auralex Gramma Pad
Anyone ever had a go at making a wedge shaped one of these, allowing the cab to tilt back a bit so you can hear it better? I feel a project coming on! Keep your eye on the amps for sale section - expect one LM2, slightly dented where it fell of the cab!
Velcro? Hook side on bottom of amp. Tolex cab = Furry velcro on top. Carpet cab = Sorted! I used my 2 strips of platfoam on Saturday. Made a big difference. Still a crappy stage that sucks the bass away, but massive improvement on what it was! -
I haven't got a fretless (though it's on my list of "to gets" & a fretless 5 is at the top), but I hate that traditional 80s chorused fretless. Saying that, there's nowt wrong with some reverb & if the chorus is done right, then yeah. Maybe a delay & a filter would be good choices. But it depends what you're after. Mine's would go through octave, fuzz, filter, LPF & chorus & sound more like a synth.

Do you have a budget? If I had the money, I'd try a Moog Cluster Flux. Waiting for Shep to get some demos up.

I'd looked at the Marshall combo about 3-4 years ago, but I heard a lot of reports that it was unreliable (though Lozz never reported any troubles with his) & that it weighs more than my house does. I ended up spending a good bit more on a Markbass combo. I'd keep an eye on the 2nd hand section on here & gather as much info as you can. Just re read, has to be new Mine did too. 2nd hand does give you much better bang for your buck. Have a word with the Bass Merchant, they're closing down at the end of the month (unfortunately ) & they're very helpful.
I didn't mean to accuse you. You let me know publicly when we disagree As I think it should be.
I never thought that you was accusing me, I was merely having a jest I have a lot of time for you on here.
I think reasonable people use it for reasonable purposes and non reasonable people for their own reasons. IME it's a tool for the polar extremes at the expense of the others. By the way I had a very high like ratio but that has plummeted since the dislike button. Some will see that as a good thing but I expect most of those would not be able to argue that point eloquently.
It wasn't me (said in best Shaggy voice). Have one back.
The like system is wicked. The dislike system on the other hand enforces negative thought.
I suppose it depends on how it gets used. I wouldn't use it just because I didn't fully agree with something (infact, I probably wouldn't use it at all), but i can see it being used for "nonsense" posts (if you know what I mean). Such as bad advice.

My band "BigRoom" played the Victoria Hall in Dunblane last night with another band called "Main Street Blues". Turnout was quite low with @50 folk turning up, but we & the other band had a great time! We threw a couple of covers in there too. We did a rather slow spaced out version of Gnarles Barklay's Crazy, a Rockin version of Sunshine of your love & a funky version of Take me to the river & a whole load of originals too. Had some dancers & a good sound too (for being on a big wooden stage).

If you hover over someone's name above their avatar, you can see how many total likes they have. I can see Monckeyman has 36 likes & daz has 14. I think the like system is fun & if anyone takes it serious, then a life would be required
