Depends on the sensitivity of the speakers being used & many other factors. What can you get for £xxx to play with a drummer would be a better question to ask. Does your drummer use sticks, hotrods or brushes? So how much are you looking to spend? £500 will get you a small light rig that would be most capable.

Download WinISD. It will give you cab specifics for whatever driver you are using.

Like icastle says, find something to latch on to or become the metronome. Could be the tapping of someone's foot or the vocal melody. That's how it works in my band. We're a 3 piece with singer/guitar/banjo mandolin/whistle/cutlery & me on bass, though I don't know for sure that you'd class us as a trad folk band. The singer plays Canadian folk (AKA Americana, Country & such stuff), the mandolinist is a Scottish folkie through & through & I play Electronica/Breakbeat/techno style basslines. Oddly enough, it kinda works!

I don't watch telly or read "celebrity gossip" stuff, so I have not a scooby about Lana Del Rey's life other than that she sings. I like her songs & I like her voice. I even bought her album (the 1st album I've bought this year) & I like it. I wouldn't say she sounds like Nancy Sinatra, more like a female Chris Isaac. If you want my honest opinion on it, I'd actually give it 7/10. It's not a musicians album, but it is good for listening to in bed or in the car (I'm listening to it whilst stripping the plaster & lathe out of the pantry). Combo or Head & Cab, it's up to you. I chose combo because it takes 5 mins less to set up & if you're doing a set where there's other artists on & you need to move your gear quick, then you can. Don't get caught up in "how many watts is it". It's all down to how much air you're able to move & that's done by speakers & good cab design. I've gigged with a head that didn't put out 100 watts & had no trouble being heard (it was into 2 15" cabs). The min 300w can be taken as a "rough" guide, but it's not the law. Markbass & Eden will probably be out of budget, but Ashdown are worth looking at in your budget, as is Hartke & also that GK head that Truckstop mentions. The Roland D-Bass combos are really good & I nearly got one, so well worth checking out. Also worth noting that different sized speaker drivers do not equate to how much bass or top end you'll get. You can get as much bass & top end from either a 15 or 10. More speaker area being covered = more air being moved = more loudness. 2nd hand is a good way to go as you'll get more for your money & won't lose much (if anything) when you decide to change. I know that the hothand itself will only work with Source Audio products. They do something claled the [url="http://www.sourceaudio.net/products/hothand/midi_exp.php"]Hot Hand Midi Exp Controller[/url] that might be of use with a MIDI-CV convertor & I'd considered it, but for the price you could get a BEF & use it along with the Moog LPF (not controlling one another though).

I've heard a few Uprights played through these & I've been impressed. If you've already got the 15, get another 15. If you're not going through the PA, then more of your audience will hear you than they would a 2x10+4x10 config. Don't get sucked in to the nonsense that 15's have no top end. Phil Starr gives a good point if you use PA.

So if you go for the 15, get another 15. If you go for the 2x10, get another 2x10. & so on.

If you can solder, buy a length of instrument cable & chop it in 1/2 & buy 2 mono jacks & 2 stereo jacks. this way if the stereo to 2 mono's don't work, you can make a stereo-stereo with 1/2 (1/2d again) & a mono to mono lead for whatever else. The difference the pot will make is how far it will affect the parameter by, which if you're using it to control the Cut Off, probably wont be an issue. The Moog EP-2 Exp pedal has a pot at the side to adjust the resistance & I usually have this turned back a bit so I have more control over a narrower frequency.

Well I asked Nathan if he had any info besides what he says in the video & he's said "The expression pedal has two 1/4" outputs and one 1/8" for other SA pedals. For other info, I'm sure SA will be posting stuff on their website soon". I don't think it's been released just as yet.

But when a compressor is on, you shouldn't be able to tell it is until you turn it off.

I think it depends on what style of music you're playing. If you play dubstep/DnB/breakbeat/house then you might find it improves your bassline dramatically to have some well chosen fx. I use all my fx in my current band (which is Singer/guitarist, Mandolin/tinwhistle/spoons/bodhran, sometimes a drummer & me on bass/guitar). I use Octave, Bass Murf with tap tempo, Distortion, Chorus & Low Pass Filter with expression pedal & will happily switch between sounds throughout a song. I play in a folk band! So the answer is "Why not?"
