1. The basslines taht got me into bass are rather well known: 2nd half of "The Chain" - Fleetwood Mac New Years Day - U2 The Void - The Beatles Oh, & loads of Talking Heads!
2.
Never stopped Bob Dylan ...
Exactly! Though I can empty a full venue in less than 3 minutes.
3. I don't mean to Pee on the SFT, as I'm sure it's a very good pedal, but that video does zilch for it. If you listen to the Ampeg & then click near the end & listen to the SFT/TE, they sound about as similar as Motown to Mark King! & I'm deaf & can hear that. You could probably get that sound that the SFT is doing by fiddling with the EQ on the TE & rolling off some top end (Maybe leaving something near the 3khz up to give that "click" that the Ampeg has). I don't know

5. Or you could learn songwriting & try finding a good singer. I can't sing a note in tune, but that doesn't stop me writing songs. Funny.... I'm trying to give you encouragement yet considering doing the same as you (but for different reasons).
6. Haha! Snap.
7. I think that's more to do with the amp & the recording, rather than a particular effect. But something like a BDDI or other preamp may get you close with your jazz on the bridge pick up.
8. It's the only downside of my MB combo. Cats love it.
9. Just fill it with cotton wool. That way it's easy to revert if needed!
10.
That's cos you live in Perth
Don't remind me! It's Perthetic.
11.
I know who you are.
Shhhhh.....
12. Where are you? I know a few folk looking for bassists up here (I keep getting offers & knocking them back). I do know how you feel though. I get to practice with my band once every 2-3 months, the rest of the time is p!ssing about cause the Mrs has a moan every time I mention "band". Seriously thinking about packing it in myself as I can't be bothered with the grief anymore. Last week I managed to arrange a band practice for tonight & checked with the Mrs & she was happy with it, then tonight when I get back she gives it "I'm not happy about you going tonight, there's a pantry needing finished".
13. I'm on here too, but not many know who I am.
14. What's the bets that your Ricky was stolen 33 years ago?
15. Hmmm. Muff sucks bottom?
16. Boiler suit, Deerhunter hat & sandals (well it is a folk band & you get to wear what the folk you like).
17. If you have no idea what effects you want, then I'd always suggest getting a multi FX unit. It'll save you a fortune in light up bricks.
18.
To wide your staff possibility: Personal regulator of timbre that is always with you
Is vat the fock you have werking for you or the big stik thing vat you carey? Sorry, just re read it. It' the big stick thing "Personal regulator of timber that is always with you".

I will do.
20.
Bass and folk is always a problem. For dancing it's not a problem as dancers want a steady beat and (usually) that's what the band plays. Songs are a different issue, as a general rule, if there's no drummer, ignore playing root and five, it's boring and it won't work because they'll always be ahead or behind you. This is one of the few chances you'll get to play a bass melody and not get yelled at! Embrace it! It's fun! All that cool stuff that jazz bassists seem to get to do, you can do it in folk! Mind you I'm the sort of idjit that plays jigs on bass so maybe I'm biased Steve
Nope, you're pretty much spot on. My band rarely plays with a drummer & I get to play most of the melodies with the other instruments providing the rhythm section. It's a nice refreshing change.

Cheers Al, very much appreciated. Hope I can return the favour some time.

The resistors I got are 2kΩ, any good? The chap in Maplin seemed to know less about electronics than my cats do.
23. It'd be fine. The cab should comfortably take up to 250 watts, the amp will put a maximum of 140 out. Think of the cab like having a container with some liquid in it & there's enough room for a further 250ml, now our amp is an object that would take up 140ml of that space when put into it, it's not going to overflow whether you put it in to take up 20ml (turned to a low volume) or all the way in (turned right up). BUT.... Don't get caught up on watts. If it starts to sound bad, turn it down. There's many other factors besides watts. You could safely put your 1001 into your MAG cab, just listen to how it's sounding & if it farts, back off on the bass or turn it down.

Ah, cheers Al. I'm new to electronics of this nature, though I used to install lighting systems & car media/security systems. If I put the 2 superbrights in series, would I get away with no resistor? My initial concern was that on Maplin's website, the specs say they're 2.5v (reverse max 5v, whatever that means). The pedal's on a 9v PSU, so battery life isn't an issue.
25. If you like your GK gear, why not try out a MB200? They're @ £200 & probably make a decent wee rig. Never quite understood practising with different gear from what you'd play live with though?
