1. There's been a few boards that's had lighting on/under/in them on here & I've not heard of any issues. Copper tape/shielding should be able to sort out any issues from it though. I had an issue with noise from one of my moog pedals. I took the sides off & shielded them & had no issues since. As for your UV idea, that would work. Haptix have taken it a step past their pedal board... http://haptix-music.com
2. That is good news. Now the hard bit.... Finding a decent singer that'll be a good front man & not want to take control. The hard bit is that there's loads of shower singers & not many whom are actual vocalists. So lots of sifting. Best place might be open mic or karaoke.
3. If you like the sound of your GK 15", then add another GK 15". Adding an EBS cab is like putting sugar in your coffee, you might like it, you might not, but it's gonna sound different. Mixing driver sizes is the same, but can also be unpredictable from venue to venue. If you're not happy with the GK sound, try some cabs out until you find the one that you do like & then sell the GK.
4. Following on from Bert's post, forget what you look at the bass as. It's Not a root note instrument unless you make it one. I listen to the melodies & play things that work in the scale being used. Harmonising or playing unison with a vocal part here & there is also a good place to get the creative vibe flowing.
5.
I like it! So if I wanted to explore this sort of genre further, what would I look for? Electronica is a big umbrella. How do you describe your band?
That's a good question. I've no idea. There's a few bands that have a similar(ish) sound that I can think of, but not quite the same. Ultraista, Bjork & Modeselektor are 3 that come to mind. Maybe Prog Rock Electronica?
Sorry, slight derail, but you get a rather unexpected set of related youtube videos for yours Love the track.
Haha! I never noticed that! We better hurry up on getting a decent set of songs finished to change that. Thanks. I'm looking forward to sharing the full track soon.
6. Excellent stuff! It's good to get out of the kitchen & into a room with some space. I started one of the "quit my band" threads, but it's all positive & although I've quit, I've joined another 2! lol The important part of a band is to have fun. So may you be blessed with loads of it.
7. Q tron & Q Balls are filters (auto wah type thingys). BMS is an octaver, distortion (square wave) & filter all in one, hence being bigger, with more controls & costing considerably more. So it depends if it's gonna be your only pedal... Do you want to play funk & have your bass' tone with a wah on it, or do you want to play synth sounds? There are better filters than the EH ones (subject to taste of course). My choice is the Moog MF-101. It's big, it isn't cheap, but it does sound awesome.
8. Update time... We've already made a start on the first song & it's almost finished. There's a change in the song where the bass is more synth sounding that I've yet to record & the vocalist is working on her parts to go with it. Should be finished before the end of May. Here's a taster... http://youtu.be/6zGKAbhyDw8
9. As some of you might know, I had been trying to start a band playing breakbeat, electronica, house, acid jazz & such stuff but getting stuck with folk who want to play pop rock. Finally I found a chap starting a band that was so far, him on keys & guitar & a drummer. I joined last month & just over a week ago we got completed with a vocalist. Now we have our first track almost finished (I'm still working on a more synth dubstep sound for some parts in it & there's another vocal part being worked on), but here's what we have so far... http://youtu.be/6zGKAbhyDw8
10. That's not slowed down to 33.3, that's what she sounds like now she's older.
11. Rehearsal is the best time to get the sound you want (unless you take the band home with you). Most find in a band, it requires a different sound. Teach your band mates this (especially guitarists & keys players).
12. Have you got his email? Send him a virus & see how he likes to have things complicated.
13. I think the "cutting through" definition depends on the band. If there's guitarists, you're gonna have to do one of 2 things. 1- turn the bass down on their rigs so they're not playing bass, or 2- turn up your mids & play guitar.
14. Isn't Bugera Behringer? Open things up & have a look at the drivers, see what's on them. You could then buy a couple of 16Ω drivers to suit the cab volume & put them in. Or maybe a better idea, flog it & get a matching 15 to the one you have (that's if you like the sound of it, of course).
15.
No idea. The guy who bodged some random driver into the cab ssaid it's now 6ohm B-)
Fixed for you
16.
So if I were to go, other than join my band and the open mic nights, where else can I find other musos?!
Bandmix, Gumtree, the local music shops & work have always provided. My band took a change in genre from what I started it as. I called a pub meeting & they all wanted to play rock covers. Not my thing, so I left. Within 4 days I had 2 bands vying for me. One an RnB/Soul band, the other an Electronica band. The best bit was that they both got me through 2 year old adverts.
17. It's a bit like changing strings on your bass. Put the same ones on & they sound & perform the same, put different ones on & it might be better, it might be worse. You'd need to look into details of the drivers that you would choose. If you put in the same spec'd drivers as the originals, but with a higher thermal rating, then you could maybe expect them to sound very similar or even the same.
18. No. The cabinet doesn't have any power. If you're replacing drivers, make sure that the cab is of a suitable volume (litres) for the drivers you intend on putting into it. Why would you blow up your 2x12? C4?
19. The wattage of an amp doesn't mean very much on its own. There's been many bands gigging with a 200w amp on big stages throught an 8x10 & I've gigged with 30 watts at my disposal in vlage halls. As long as you can move enough air & get a sound that you like.
20.
I do find it bizarre really, when I started I thought about 200 trace elliot watts would be all I would ever need.
It probably was & still is, had it not been for that damned gas!
21. What Jack says. That way you get a driver closer to your ear & better dispersion for the rest to hear you.
22. I was looking at the CZ synths last month. They bring back my teenage memories. The 101/1000 was the same synth, just small/full key versions. Cheers. Now I'm gassing for a CZ.
23. I've got the 2x10 version. I made a top for the amp so I can slide the amp out & use it on its own.
24. 2nd hand iPad?
25.
here's the proof it was only 5 years ago I fixed it up... http://www.talkbass....o-watch.558473/
That manky in just 5 years??? You're only digging a hole for yourself!
