1. The wattage thing does show that watts have not a lot to do with how many decibels you can make.
2. The downside that I had with a compressor sustainer was the increased noise floor. You need a clean set up, which might involve spending a bit on good patch leads & PSU & making sure that your shielding is good too.
3. Now I know why some players wear silk gloves!
4.
I've never been able to get my Ebow to work reliably on a bass.
I couldn't either, but one of my friends uses his efficiently (I suppose it's practice & patience).
Thanks for the steer, but I live in the 'frozen north', and opportunities to try stuff just don't come up. I may need to take a punt on a Soul Preacher. RK
Might be worth trying the second hand effects forum on here, that way you wont lose money if it's not what you want.
5. Try a compressor (or ten) before you buy one. Your other option is an Ebow,
6. It would most probably be cheaper to replace the EQ unit with a better quality one (depending on how much the EQ unit costs, of course). Preamp idea sounds like a good call, but if you like the sound you have/had, then it's not gonna be the same. It would give you a wider range of tones, but how often are you gonna change the amp settings at a gig?
7. What about the MarkBass TTE or the Multimark? I've never tried either, but worth chucking in the pot of gear to try. The LM II/III are great amps too.

loud enough?
Many thanks for all of your advice. It's my 1st gig and I guess that it's just nerves and me worrying. I will probably see how it goes before upgrading. Being a tightarse I could try and talk the band into upgrading the PA.
Don't worry about it & enjoy the gig. My first gig was through a Carlsbro 90 watt head into an unknown 15" cab & it was fun (that was about 30 years ago ). I now gig with a 2x10 combo & have no probs being heard.
9. This thread might be of interest to you... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/230948-ios-for-the-gigging-bassist/
10.
thanks! really appreciate it.
I've had a look... There's not a trim pot inside. It would be worth finding someone else with one (even a shop) & comparing yours along side to see if there's a volume difference as I've not had any volume issues. Have you tried it on its own?
11. What he says ^ You're not gonna want a high gain dirtbox for most of that stuff. I'm auditioning for a Funk/RnB/Soul band tonight & I'm using a Moog for some low overdrive (I've got a high gain & filter for when I want to drop some dubstep in the middle of I'll Be Around ) I've heard good things about the VT Bass (& the Behringer copy).
12. You can put it in my house if you like? Sorry.
13. There's every chance it could be the 2 8x10s were causing the problem, cancelling each other out maybe?
14. If there's pro bassists using them live for amp modelling & effects, it shows that the reliability is pretty good. I had 1 issue after upgrading to ios7 where the iPad would restart randomly, but that was rectified with an update.
15.
did you manage to check the moog mate?
Sorry, I never got a chance. I'll have a look tomorrow if I can.
16. Funny you should say that, as that's what I do. The leads to my bass are permanently plugged in to the pedals & I just take one out the back of the last pedal to the amp. My board looks like someone spilled coloured udon all over it though.
17. Quicker & tidier to set up.
18. It is 10x the watts to get twice the volume. That's going on using the same spec'd cab though Watts means very little on its own in relation to volume (decibels). How much air the speakers can move & how well the cab around them has been designed are the important factors.
19. The "Effects" section might help you narrow things down to just a few dozen pedals.
20. Time signatures such as 6+6+5/8 can be interpreted as 17/4 if you struggle with reading it. I love this song... http://youtu.be/br2s0xJyFEM
21. What sort of sound are you after? The only "right" order is the one that makes the sound you like. I was octave> dirt> filter> chorus, but I changed the last 2 around a couple of weeks ago. However, I'll probably change that again soon & try the chorus on the <110hz channel to see if I like it. My sound is dub, wub, techno electronica.
22. There isn't another filter that sounds like the moog. It's straight out the model D minimoog (which is part of what gives moog it's sound. Shep's closest alternative that sounded similar was the Iron Ether filter, but he still uses the Moog.

Try these guys... http://www.effectpowersupplies.com
24. That's a good point about the MB filters. I've turned both filters up (the VPF increases the lows & top & cuts the mids) & then turned the treble down too & got some wonderfully subby sounds (I have a LMII). It is different from the moog though, but might be worth a try.
25. It does seem odd that you need to have the drive up that high. I can't recall if there's a trim pot in it for the input. I'll have a look on Tuesday & let you know.
