1. Phil Jones likes the trouser flapping ability of 5" speakers. If you're finding smaller speakers a bit gutless, I'd suggest you stop trying cheap/old/rubbish cabs & try out some decent cabs instead.
EA with 12 or 10 speaker? Even Glock attracts me a lot.
IIRC it was a 10. I've never tried a Glockenklang, but the name itself has always made me want to have a go on one.
  3. Just having a wee look & Russ Andrews actually have a 3/4 mitre HDMI cable for £216 (or 20m for just £1592) & a 1/2 mitre USB cable for just £686. I think their customers probably have nothing else to spend their money on.
  4.
I can see how the analog connection thing could make a difference, especially if you're replacing the often crappy leads that come with PC speakers etc. But for USB and other digital cables, it's not just some kind of subjective opinion about sound quality-it's that digital connections fundamentally don't work that way. The data you receive will be exactly the same each time, otherwise computers, the internet etc just wouldn't work. When you buy an album from iTunes, your copy of it is identical to mine even though both sets of data have taken completely different paths to our computers. The only time this isn't true is when something goes wrong, in which case the errors aren't a simple issue with sound quality, but are usually much more serious, like a completely unplayable file. Sorry, IT lecture over. ....my inner geek gets annoyed when people who write for hi-fi mags don't take the time to learn the basics of the technology that they get paid to write about.
Codswallop! My Monster HDMI cable makes the 1s much more aligned & stops them curving with the 0s.

    New Amp Set

Before I got my Markbass gear I tried an EA combo, which was nice, but rather heavy. I tried a PJB Suitcase, which sounded nice at low volume, but groaned & let out a fart when I turned it up. I've never tried the other brands you mention though.

That's a very nice wee rig. Maybe have a look at MarkBass. I've been very pleased with my rig.
  7.
I bet Virgin were expecting you to buy £3 lead. Did they reimburse you the £80?
They did indeed. I'd been chasing them for a good few months & they kept giving false promises, so as I wasn't getting the use of the HD side that I was paying for, I thought it would be an apt rebuke. I hoped by doing that, that they would always make sure the HD boxes come with an HDMI cable & not mess other people about.
  8. I struggle to make the monthly one, let alone a weekly thing. Every month I see the pic & come up with an idea, often getting the basic idea recorded too, but rarely do I get something to post. Damn life gets in the way of all these things that I want to do. Great pic. I used to do a bit of freehand climbing up structures & rocks like quarry walls or cliffs, but never hung off any with one hand (well, not intentionally). That was when I was in my teens & 20s, now I climb stairs instead. I'll try again for this month.
  9.
I'm not that bleedin' daft! ( or indeed that bleedin' rich). I have got some very modest but well-chosen cables in my hifi , but I don't have any fancy power cables. I do have a fairly inexpensive power conditioner, though. Does that make me an eccentric? Probably.
A power conditioner isn't a bad thing to have, nor is decent audio cables. When I had an HD V+ box, Virgin never supplied an HDMI lead. I called them a few times, each time they promised to post one. Eventually they told me to buy one & they'd reimburse me. Off I went & spent £80 on a monster lead. When I A/B that next to my £3 HDMI lead I see no difference, though my wife swears that the 0s are a bit more O.
  10. Dingus, did you spend £2k on a nice shiny kettle lead?
  11. Wikiloops is also a good place to get lots of good loops for various instruments (& even submit your own).
  12.
At the current retail prices, I would think long and hard before actually peeing on any German-made Warwick. Maybe start off peeing on a Rockbass or,at most, a Pro Series one and see how you go on. Those Made in Korea Warwicks are very good quality and you probably wouldn't notice much difference between peeing on one of them and a proper German one, anyway .
I played a German made Warwick $$ a few years ago & it was a lovely instrument, would have one anytime. A with months after, I played a Rockbass Corvette, I wouldn't pee on it if it were on fire.
  13.
No but I have tried to put the butter into the dish washer.
Haha! That's probably gonna be my next effort.
  14. Has anyone successfully put the kettle in the fridge yet? You know, you get up in the morning, make a cuppa & get the milk out the fridge whilst you wait on the kettle boiling. Pour the water in the cup & walk to the fridge to put the milk back. I haven't as yet, but I've looked at the fridge door a couple of times with kettle in hand.
  15.
Oh dear. Their gain seems to increase too. And less headroom...
Less headroom! As someone said to me... "Getting lucky at my age means remembering what you went into the fridge for".
  16.
My hearing's somewhat buggered anyway; I needed myringoplasty operations for both ears after repeated infections (from my earlier years) gave me perforated eardrums and I have tinnitus in the right ear. I haven't a clue what the highest frequency is I'm able to reliably perceive but I suspect it's maybe only up to around 12 KHz these days (additionally, it's already well known that men lose more high frequencies than women as they age).
Trust someone to mention tinnitus & all I now hear in my left ear is "weeeeeeeeee"! My top end must be about 1khz in there.
additionally, it's already well known that men lose more high frequencies than women as they age
That would be due to women increasing their high frequencies with age.
  17. Anytime I have to play with guitarists, I have to ask them to roll off the bass. If you're still not cutting through, increase your mids a touch & roll off your lows & put your rig close to a wall (a corner is better still). This should give a significant increase in how loud you are, though it might not have all the lows that you may want.
  18. You could buy or make an A/B switch that has a 2 channel mixer on one side so you can switch between the EUB & the Bass. Wouldn't cost much & you get to use any amp you want.
  19. I've a funny feeling that no 2 Fenders have the same QC regardless of where they're made. I found the Squier Jazz superior to the MIM, but the MIA was far better (it was a very nice instrument to play). The Jaco was slightly better, but not warranting the extra £500.
  20.
Why do you ask?
So you can plug 2 basses in at once, of course!
  21.
BGM tested the RC cabs and found the 2x10 to be about 10ohms and the 2x12 to be around 11ohms. No magic involved, just TC playing around with numbers in order to sell stuff again.
That makes sense. Cheers for clarifying.
  22. I'd try it in different configuration & use your ears. Why don't you think stereo mode would compete with your drummer?
  23. I have chorus at the end, but try it in various positions as it might have a cool effect on how the different drives react to it.
  24.
But palm muting on the bridge is a perfectly valid technique. So why limit yourself when it is possible to either buy a bridge or alter one to be comfortable. I am a pick player and move around between the bridge and neck a lot, I wouldn't like to have the option of resting on the bridge taken away.
I agree, I use palm muting too. I'm not suggesting taking anything away or limiting yourself, just adding the ability to play with your hand over the bridge without getting it shredded on a Badass. Why alter or change the bridge when a slight change in technique can improve everything?
  25.
Well it is - but I can only refer to my own, which is to rest my palm on the bridge when using a pick. Even for the E string.
Which is why I suggest moving your pick hand nearer the neck (even just a few cm). My playing is similar to when I use a keyboard. Keep the wrist up. The forearm leaning on the body can give you ample stability.
