1.
That would be me, I`m presenting the session, and my trusty black/black/maple `78 is going to make an appearance.
Set of New Rotosound swing bass, 100w valve head and thats that won then.
2. If someone turns up with a 76-78 maple board USA and plugs it in I think everyone else will just go home to avoid the embarrsment.
3. They went through a period of bad reliability, had a few and they never could keep working, shame sounded good, just did not lpike the built in smoke machine.
4. Lilly allen did herself no favours by taking out injunctions on photographers that basically criminlised anyone photographing her, be it at a gig, on the street, at a promotion event, hence her face vanished from the media and her sales with it.
5. Had a play on a Walnut, yes they do have a harder brighter tone to my ear, just need a gloss one now.
6. Once stood there and thought... what this band needs is a bass player ! Yes a bass player, all twang slap and pop and no real bass under the songs.
7. They are to me, the greedy old men that killed napster and would have killed MP3 had they got thier full way. They were filthy rich and thier was little need for them to do what they did. They even boast about it. Hence why they have to play over here, in America, people have longer memories.
8. I do know the band did not play the track, they had session players do it from the record company, so, they never got paid royalities.
9. The local group is known on facebook as "rock of the north" on there you will; find dozens looking for prog gigs.
10. Nowhere near enough pay. Probally why they are advertising.
11. Glad to see the childish discussions over these fine basses is subsiding.
12. Fender are now enforcing patents, wonder if the same ban will be applied.
13. On amps we were still pre- trace elliot, it was valve amps if you wanted volume. In those days bass amps really sucked
14. I think the fact they went pop, like the best light bulb you have ever had is what made them legendary. They will never reform, make no mistake about that, the legend will stay where it ended, right at the top of the game and they stopped and got off. I wonder how many other bands wish they had done the same.
15. I found the TCbg 500 lost tone and volume halfway through the gig, put it down to speakers getting hot and amp running flat out. Headroom is king.
16. The main trick is get the cab off the floor, I find casters work well, you may get less resonant bass around the amp but as that is energy getting absorbed, lifting the cab, even on a crate throws more down the room than around it. Other than this, keyboard player's are usually moaning knobs that think bass players are not real musco's . Only had one scrap in a band, well I call it a scrap, ended with the keyboard player outside by the throat and in the canal to cool his mouth off Every gig he would mouth off, turning a blind eye made it worse until one day he decided to throw his drink over me for been too loud on a stage about the size of a stamp, as the bass was not allowed through the PA, you do have to be heard... Anyway, got the sack, but watching him swim was worth it.
17. You can hear it recorded on the Jams version of Solid bond, certainly sounds like it. Later features on solo Freak Album As I understand it, Paul was looking for a drastic change in sound and Bruce tried a more modern bass to get more punch. However, what ever he played, he was still Bruce and sounded like Bruce and why not. If the truth be told I think Polydoor had more to do with the break up by criticizing the new work they were producing so Paul pulled the plug on the Jam using the new material for the style council, Solid Bond, speak like a child, shout to the top and walls come tumbling down were all really Jam tracks that he took with him. They were contracted to 2 more albums with Snap and Dig the new breed killing off the contract.
18. Smart phone apps and Buetooth speakers are getting used by some of the more serious buskers these days. Anyone know anytjing about them ?
19. For years bass players have been trying to get foxtons Rick sound from those years, well the secret is out.
20. Having had a run of bad luck with the SVT 7pro I would say stick with the 3, far better quality, the 7 cuts out mid gig like clockwork, so did the replacment they sent and I even tried a new cab with it, still the same, gets very hot and click. The 3 is the epitaph IMO, it just fking works !
21. Whilst we are on it here is the 4001 a lot of stuff was recorded with. Note the pick up ! Now then who knew that the sneaky devil. And all the folk trying to capture his kicking sound on classics like Eton rifles and going underground all face palm... Darn you knew it as well, had to be !... 22. You mean this one I was "on about" http://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/the-jam:-bruce-foxton-s-fender-precision-bass-gui-292-c-dae2ccaad3
23. Even a lot of these "charity fund raisers" need some careful thought. Chugging musicians wages appears to be the latest thing for some of these charities. On Exposure, ask for an add for the band in each of the magazines they publish, at £1200 a pop for an add, it sounds a fair trade off. Bet they refuse...
24. I do know he had his Black precision he played for most of the Jam years sold at auction for charity.
