1. Every play for free band I have seen always look and sound like something the council made up. No dis-respect but they are far more likely to empty the pub than fill it. I would liken them to having your local punters decorate the pub with left over paint. Quite sure they would have a great time, but at the same time you will get exactly what you pay for. Someone indulging their hobby. Good bands, get paid good money for a very good reason.
2. http://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/usa-blowtorched-fender-hand-stained-ash-jazz-bass./1089073632 This has to be the daftest hatchet job yet ?
3. I looked at some ledj 7q5 at venue, see my lights he said, here we go I thought, more dull LED lighting and jesus when he powered them up, they really do chuck some light out for the money, they are better side of stage as they are a bit bright to look at, but thats output, if you think normal LED you get in cheap cans are 300mw at best, these have 5 watt LED, 16x the output and they have some range to the beam as well. Probably the best new lighting product in a lot of years.

New Bowie

Sounds like the Trolololololol song
5. The Old School peavey gear, like u15/ ul15 with Black widow drivers can give anything similar a run for its money for a fraction of trend names. At the end of day behind fancy brands lies speakers in wooden boxes. What I like about Peavey BW gear is it is serviceable, the drivers can be stripped and cleaned to solve most rattles, a new basket bolts on so no re-cones and the horns have replaceable coils.
6. Playing general "rock covers" has always been the worst pay, same old tunes week in week out. I gave up on rock music years ago and now stick to genres that pay more and are more in demand.
7. There is a new boy about town, the Ledj 7q5, these LED cans pack some very serious punch, not talking those led cans you need two inch from your face, these things knock out a right beam for the money. You can put them on stands at the side of stage like old par 56 cans, they really are that good. Check em out, you can get foot controllers as well and the chain together with DMX Two each side is enough for the full stage. Seen some in action at a venue and I was most impressed, as up to now LED lighting has always seemed a bit far away and dull to me, but these really do crack some light out and the colours are very strong as well.
8. There is a limit to how much you are prepared to fund someone's hobby. As to getting paid, it has little to do with how good anybody is and more to do with how much value they place on themselves.
9. Foxton in Eton Rifles,Rickenbacker 4001 with Jazz bass pick under the Bridge. Thats a bass sound.
10. Cruise work is fine if you live with mum and dad. You still have the home at home to run and the bills to pay. Unless your a bit of a bum, the free accommodation free food but low pay soon gets a bit of a drag. Then you have to be able to all get along like a house on fire, same sets, same routines, night and day in and out, 3 shifts on some cross channel jobs ! There is not that much trouble getting this kind of work as most only ever do it once.
11. Looks expensive to me. Must be end of life period for such an old amp as well. My £699 would be going on a new amp.
12. Hope someone grabbed it, one of the hidden gems in the Squire line up, very well made bass compared to a Mex Fender.
13. 05/6 Squire PJ on Gumtree liverpool area £100 http://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/fender-squier-precision-bass-special-with-padded-gig-bag-mint-condition/1086613725 They had really nice solid bodies, jazz profile necks and good pick ups, far better than the later 08 basses Those that know their squires will know this bass, hope some grabs a bargain . Post it up if you grab it.
14. Remember going in to town to see the USA Fenders and dreaming of owning one, left school got a job and bought one on HP. Spent many a night with the polishing cloth, it was a very proud instrument to own. These days, you dont know if its a sweat shop chinese knock out or a USA bass. The brand has become the Netto of basses, they do good stuff and they also do far more cheap tat. The brand just has no value any more. At Least Rickenbacker have stuck firmly to their guns and refused to make cheap knock off replicas. Can it ever be brought back ? I doubt it unless they start a trade in scheme giving the Chinese instrument owners a big discount on the real Mcoy. Had one of those modern player Chinese Jaguars to fix, strap button would not stay on. The wood a few MM was like balsa wood, had to drill a two inch hole and epoxy resin the screw in just get get it to stay in. Sold it on rather quickly...
15. Once had to be smart as the dogs dinner for a posh do involving some local council big wigs. Only suit I had was a bit tight, but it will do..... Last song of the first set and I used to do a little jump, here goes, up whiiiiiiip arse hanging out of my kegs right down to the knee. The audience thought it was part of the show and howls of hysterical laughter ensured.
16. As with any insurance, you need to hold the actual certificate with a signature. Do MU provide an actual signed certificate of insurance or just a letter saying you are covered by some scheme somewhere. The two are a world apart, a legal certificate of insurance is a bond certificate, with two named parties and a signature of the entity underwriting that bond to its liability value. If you hold the actual certificate you have something to stick down in front of a judge as to who will be Liable for the loss. Anyone confirm if MU issue an actual certificate of insurance as a separate document ?
17. The line 6 wifi ones are a crystal clear, miles ahead of anything else IMO and I have tried a fair few out
18. Hohner early 90's before headstock re-shape
19. Chopping my middle finger off on my fretting hand kind of put a dampener on things for me...
20. Anyone know a good PA firm around Bridlington / East Coast of Yorkshire, about 6k of good gear should do. Any suggestions most gratefully received .
21. If I had to pick two lost Gems in the branding mess over the years, it was the Squire Mex jazz bass 70' reissue(poor pic ups excused) . Proof they can make nice stuff if allowed and the Squire Mat Freeman precision , which could have easily worn the Fender Logo with pride. When they get it right they do and well ! People will pay for quality stuff, that is what they have lost focus of. Personally, as i re-iterate I hope they go down and the Fender brand is bought by a bespoke maker of quality who starts putting out what they should have been making years ago. Quality, hand checked instruments that are worth paying a premium for. Be happy to pay the staff a living wage, make a reasonable return and stop trying to take over the world with cloned instruments.
22. Making basses in China with the Fender Logo was to me the biggest mistake ever in devaluing the brand. The Mex instruments are much worse than the Squire special series basses in quality, the whole range is just a complete mess. USA basses with neck pockets you can put plectrums in !. The Fender Logo should in my opinion only be used on the very best USA instruments and use Squire for everything else. The brand has lost its Kudos, it's no longer a premium instrument brand, you can buy Fender branded Chinese basses ? WTF, sorry, but I really do hope they sell up and someone takes over and puts the Fender brand back where it belongs. Chasing the sub prime instrument market has not done them any favours.
23.
MU advantages... Partial extract...
So nothing people have managed without then for years upon years.
24. The top and bottom is, No win no fee is over. You now have what is called a conditional fee agreement. Now walk in to any solicitors office and ask if you have a case to sue. The first thing any solicitor will want to know is who is paying and how. If the people you are trying to sue have no insurance, then you will now be asked to stick £5000 bond down just to investigate the claim. Then it gets expensive, the chances of getting awarded less than your legal fees are now huge. The bonus of this is PLI insurance has got very cheap now that you pay your own legal fees for suing. Solicitors are not interested in the work as there is no guaranteed money in it.
