1.
One of the biggest self-delusions in amateur musicians is the idea that its not having a magical piece of equipment thats holding you back. We've (nearly) all done it---spending hours drooling over the "perfect" piece of gear because its the missing piece of the puzzle when actually the missing piece is (nearly always) just practice.
This is true and the psychology is complex and a bit sad. Uncle - where did this quote come from?
"The vibes comin' offa Sly and Robbie was terrible...pure terror, the other studios running for cover as Channel One rockers' sound rule the whole scene in Kingston..."
2. My band has made 4 albums so far, we record and produce them at home for minimal cost so we don't have to recoup much outlay. We burn and print a few CDs to sell at gigs and occasionally by post - we sell them for £2.00 each or a fiver for all 4. They are all available for free download and streaming on soundcloud, Spotify and mixcloud. They are also available on i-tunes, CD Baby etc. to buy at the standard rate. We don't sell many in any format, because fewer people want to own music these days.
  3. Some here - can't vouch for their accuracy - http://www.bigbassta..._bass_tabs.html .
  4.
We are looking for a “Bad Ass Rockin Bass Player
Who talks like that
in the Milwaukee area
OK
The format is mostly 80's metal
Oh dear
We are not concerned with playing dance music
Shame
Give me a call and let's set something before you say no
No
  5. Nice pics Dave - what a jolly bunch you look That Peavey PJ looks a lot like an Ibanez...
  6. I sold Mark a pick up and he was great to deal with - prompt payment, good comms, nice bloke etc. etc.
  7. It's the only cab I've played through that sounded perfect with my amp EQ flat.
  8. I'm imagining..............
  9.
I would love a go on one of these
So would I - your 1x12" ACME has spoiled me for proper deep bass extension, nothing else comes close
  10. I think they are easier to adapt to if you're used to round wounds. They are very different to heavy steel flats, with much less tension and a quite different tone.
  11. Thanks JTUK. I have been in contact with Tommy at TKS and he agrees with your analysis that the 1126 would be best suited to my requirements. He suggested that I don't need the 6" driver, which would save something on the price. I only keep coming back to the S112 because it is so much cheaper, lighter and smaller. And it gets such good reviews on here I currently use a pair of small lightweight 15s and they are fine really. I have tried lots of 12" cabs including Berg and Aguilar and I haven't liked any of them as much as my 15s. It was trying an ACME low B 12" cab that started me thinking of changing, it sounded so deep and smooth. But the ACME isn't available in the UK, it's heavier and very expensive with import duty etc.
  12. Thanks Tommy. I need to compare the 1126 with the S112 - the former being more than double the price of the latter. I like the idea of the smaller, lighter and cheaper S112, but I'm concerned it may not be suitable for my reggae needs. Tone is so subjective and I may not need the extra depth of the 1126. I don't add any bass EQ on my amp (Markbass LM11) with my current 15" Flite cabs. Steve.
  13.
Oh no, I'm going to have to get some now aren't I? (thanks though! )
I found them very similar in tone and feel, with a slightly higher tension and higher gauge.
  14.
I've spent a bit of time with both.... this is all in IMO / IME:
Thanks, I would love to try the 1126, it sounds ideal for my needs and 2 should cover me for all venues. They are considerably more expensive than the S112, but I need clean, deep bass at volume. It's a shame Bassgear is so far away, maybe Tommy will find someone further north to also stock some demos - Eg. http://greatbritishbasslounge.com/ (hint hint) .
  15. Thanks for the reviews - TKS seem to be the new benchmark for 12" cabs I would like to know how the 1126 compares to the S112, particularly in it's deep bass performance. I'm considering a pair for my dub reggae band and I don't need any treble or upper mids.
  16.
I really like them, but sometimes I wish they came in different gauges so I could move up to some with the same tone and feel, but slightly more tension.
Pyramid Golds might answer that problem for you
  17. SOLD. Brandoni Cool Rails pick up, perfect condition, complete and hardly used. Ideal replacement for Fender Musicmaster and Squier Bronco basses. Simple to fit, sounds great. 18. I'd love to hear the 55, having never played a CS model. I have a 'customised' 63 jazz that sounds immense and I know what you mean about filling the room. I've been unsuccessfully trying to find that huge tone in a lighter weight bass for years - even other pre CBS Js don't have it IME. I don't like the tone from split coil Precisions and I wonder if the single coil 55 would sound closer to my Jazz's neck pick up. Your 55 is absolutely gorgeous in my eyes and if it sounds as special as you say, I hope you keep it.... Otherwise I might not be able to resist
  19.
I could sell them both and buy a Mike Lull P Bass that is available. Super light weight, amazing tone and black! Could I turn this negative experience of possibly needing to sell a bass into a fun NBD experience that softens the blow?
This makes sense if you can cope without the 55. How does the sound of the 55 compare with your 64 Precision and Jazz basses? Is the tone similar to the neck pick up on the Jazz, or more like the Precision? Or is it so different that you cannot get close with a J or split coil P bass?
  20. I prefer the sound of my cabs from the back, (I like deep bass without too much mid range). Somehow, I can't set them up that way at a gig because it just looks wrong.
