1. You are allowed to look up from the fretboard during the gig.....after all you have practiced long and hard enough to know what you are doing Good luck and enjoy it......recording it can be fun as well, we recorded our first gig...came off stage and talked about how great we were, listened to the recoding the following day and realised we could only get better!
2. unique voice and general sound, I love the single Country Club
3.
You turn up until the guitarist complains, then pretend to turn it down.
I turn up until I can't even hear the guitarist complain
4. Nice! are they definitely P90's? Mine had P100's in, which I swapped for P90's
5. I have a lovely 50's classic Precision which is perfect other than the bloody awful reverse wind tuners, the bass was one of the very first lot built and I have had it from new, the tuners were always really stiff but I thought they would free up over time....now five years down the line they are still as stiff and unfriendly as ever.....I have tried loosening the screw on the back, no difference, I have tried greasing the cog and winder....no difference....I have come to the conclusion they are just crap! Can anyone suggest anything else I could try to make them smoother and easier? If not can anyone recommend a replacement set? The base plate on these reverse wind set are a bit larger than any normal base plates so I am going to end up drilling new holes but the American vintage tuners holes are too close to the current ones that I would have to fill the existing holes to drill new ones...which I don't want to do. I see a set of Schaller M4SL tuners are for sale on here somewhere, they look nice but would they be an easy fit?..They don't seem to have any screw mounts on the back so I assume they are held in some way by the bush at the front? Any advice gladly received Rog
6.
A lot of Oly white Fenders turned creamy over the years, like mine did. It's degradation of the poly coat.
Mine is exactly the same, it's weird I always wanted an Olympic White Precision with black pick guard and a maple neck, so I wind up with what is now a banana yellow bass....still love it though
7. Passive, I totally agree with the above post regarding power cables and weight on speaker poles, I am also not overly convinced with the sound and quality of active speakers, I see loads of faulty ones for sale on Evilbay and I have yet to hear active speakers that have impressed me. My brother uses an active Opera speaker set up with his band, it was the best part of £1200 and the sound really doesn't impress
8.
Agreed, just not for £1500
I don't know, I guess I would expect to pay at least £1500 for any new real pro quality bass and even then you wouldn't guarantee it would be a really good player
9. Far Heath in Guilsborough Northants, Angus runs it, Bauhaus recoded some stuff there years back, we recorded our first album there, it is set in the countryside overlooking a reservoir (hopefully not actually in it at the moment!) really relaxed environment and nice results. The other one would be the Lodge Studio in Abington Square, Northampton, I think it is still owned by Robert John Godfrey (The Enid) it has really high quality vintage gear (Cadac desk and Studer recorder (at least it did last time I was there)) it is excellent for getting a really good vocal performance especially if Robert gets involved! We recorded some of our second album there with as good results as the rest of the album recorded at Whitfield Street (Sony's old studio) in London
10. Some on the walls, some on stands, some in cases, some under the bed....a couple in the wardrobe....I need help
11.
Ok, aside from the tuners, bridge, pickup(s?), extra string tree, scratchplate, electronics, extra body routing, wood filler in the headstock and paint job - is it a 1963 body? Have the ashtray holes been filled?
All that said, if it has been a pukka touring bass for a pro bassist it probably sounds and plays pretty good
12. Does he actually practice between gigs or is he so good he doesn't need to Our original bass player was so good he didn't need to practice between gigs so good in fact that he is now our ex bass player purely down to the number of mistakes he made every gig
13. Ok, following on from my last post, I have now managed to get Amplitube to fire up with Cubase so I can record some guitar tracks, I can record the guitar to Cubase easily enough but I cannot hear the plugin whilst I am recording (Amplitube is giving me my guitar amp drive and a bit of reverb etc) all I am hearing whilst recording is the clean guitar sound.....once recorded I can play it back and can hear the plugin working fine....is there a way to record the guitar and hear the plugin at the same time? I hope that makes sense!
14. Spent an hour or so re-soldering connections and rebuilding an old Precision over the weekend....burnt my finger, got smoke in my eye and generally got stressed with the whole process.....I hate messing about with guitars and basses
15. I have Fender 45-105 flats on both fretless basses I can't really say I have noticed increased string tension, the only thing that concerns me with flats is I feel I am going to burn the tip of my finger if I slide too much on them.....which may beggar the question as to why have I put them on a fretless.......Hadn't really thought that one through properly!
16. Yamaha BB of some kind
17. I brought something or other a while back and Amplitube Custom Shop and T Racks came as part of the bundle, I installed both on my PC, however when I fire up Cubase T racks is in my effects folder but Amplitube is not, I have tried dropping Amplitube into my VST folder with no success, I have done a search for any files associated and found the DLL file which again I have put in the VST folder and still nothing.....I have run out of ideas. Amplitube opens as a stand alone device but not in Cubase Can anyone advise please
18. It's funny, I decided to dig mine out last week and play it again, I used to play fretless exclusively, I have had a few nights practice with it again and I am going to take it as my only bass to rehearsal tomorrow. I would like to see it come back into fashion a bit they do have a wonderful sound
19. I agree with the above, try and pick up another neck either a fretless or a fretted one and have the frets removed, then effectively you have two basses, I owned a Rockbass $$ Corvette and although I hated the bass the neck was by far the best thing about the bass
20. If I hadn't already got a Thunder III fretless I would have had his hand off by now.....fantastic bass
21. You could get lucky and pick up a prototype Rega Planet turntable at a car boot for £15.00
22. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1c3c213364 This has to be the worst twin neck guitar body in existence, I am tempted to buy it and ask him to burn it rather than post it!
23. Sorry, I just popped in the shop yesterday and saw it hanging there, it is called Cash Generator in Stephenson Place, it's in the town centre near where the buses congregate!
24. I don't know if it is of interest to anyone on here but crack exchange in Chesterfield have a nice looking, set neck Ibanez Les Paul bass in black with 3 controls rather than the usual 4 on sale for £199.00 I have no idea if it is good value but it looks a good few years old but a well built bass, I was going to attach a picture but the Bass Chat gods wouldn't allow it!
