  1. I decided to buy the driver for the extension from Ashdown. Contacted them on the 9th of March and today I got a reply - Hi8 Duncan, I have looked into this for you. Unfortunately we can only supply from stock a Celestion pulse 10 bass speaker this is a 200w unit. Since you are going to use it in the extension cabinet together with the combo it should be fine Price is 25.13 + shipping @ 5.30 and VAT . call me if you wish to order it I can appreciate that a 200w will do the job but after the initial cause of the problem, I suppose I expected a bit better from Ashdown. Surely they could at least supply a larger wattage driver for the original price considering the circumstances? I even mentioned if they had any covers knocking about could I get one 'preferably' free (I can't see why not after all the problem was their fault and I'm having to pay to rectify it) but as you can see by the reply, there's no mention. A bit of me wants to ditch all my Ashdown gear and go with a firm with a decent customer service. I've had a lot of new gear from them over the years but that's now definitely come to an end.
  2. On the rare occasion playing without PA support, I've done it with a 1x10 combo. Don't expect Jah Wobble bass but some of the little combos are more than capable. Ibanez Promethean P5110 and all the other models of the same Beta Avlin who made the Promethean, Redsub, Harley Benton, White Horse (there's loads of info on here about them and a Promethean for sale). I've got an Ashdown Mibass 400w 1x10 that is capable of pub gigs. AER Amp One, Two and Three also. I'm sure there's countless more. Try a tad through the rig too if needs be. Or, as above, ditch the backline bass altogether and go in ears.
  3. Yes always check the small print. I'd posted many basses and paid insurance when they weren't actually insured. One company used to insure guitars but then if you checked the parcel length limitations, it had to be under a certain size? A 34"" scale bass would have been too long to be insured?
  4. That's one of the reasons I now ask buyers to arrange their own courier, meet or collect in person. I'm very reluctant to post and won't now accept responsibility for items after they have left my possession. I know it sounds a bit off and deters some buyers but I've had scenario's where things have been lost or damaged in the post. I really can do without that hassle of sorting all that out, refunding and losing out financially. I've even had folk (not on BC) claim they hadn't received items although signatures were supplied from the correct address (paypal refunded them their money too). Don't do paypal as a result either. Looks like you may have to call them again (if their website doesn't give you an option) about their complaints procedure. I wouldn't expect much to happen about it though. Was the bass insured?
  5. Viable option. Looks like wallpaper. She'll never know.
  6. What a sight to behold!
  7. Our drummer, has been a pro but now semi pro, he always pays his own way, generous, drives himself and his kit everywhere, doesn't expect a lift or hand , helpful with setup and plays in time! He is a definite keeper! You can all fek off, you are NOT having him. He's all mine mine mine!
  8. Everybody in the band has a car. Two members have stopped drinking. This helps me immensely. Not only can I now get bladdered but I get a lift with the PA too! Only took 40 years to get this far!
  9. Drummer's picking me up...
  10. But the sellers name is Bo Derek.
  11. Sticker books become art! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ORIGINAL-GUVNOR-SUNBURST-ELECTRIC-GUITAR-WITH-ORIGINAL-ARTWORK/132542271588?hash=item1edc229064:g:rhUAAOSwWbRarX03
  12. Thanks for the input. I've not been impressed with what I've read about Mackie Thump but can't actually remember if I've heard them? Consensus says that they are not a very good range, so I'd avoid them. The DLM series however seem to get good reviews (good sound, light, loud and tiny) but an online review can be taken with a pinch of salt I suppose.
  13. Just wondering if the tops and subs could handle a 5 piece band. Drums, guitar, bass mic'd etc. Audience up to 200 max. Also, for monitoring purposes, any good? Was hoping we could keep on topic and just discuss the Mackies but I'm kidding myself. It's Basschat!
  14. I'd be looking at getting some decent packaging. Halfords etc have large boxes. Get a few and make a decent box if needs be. Bubble wrap it, put it in the box and send it to Alex. I would think he would be keen to investigate anyway.
  15. Quite, restoring this bass to it's former glory could dramatically reduce it's value. The bass world is going through a "dragged down the canal" period at the moment. On a more sensible note -
  16. Well, if you don't really want the redundant 4 strings, I suppose I could look after them. I'll even half you on postage!
  17. Had a look at them last night. They look promising - http://www.markaudio.it/products/
  18. Just saw this reply! He uses different rigs (not all on the same night but sometimes links two together), Marshall, Orange, Fender heads, cabs and combos. Great sound but blummun loud! Cabs aimed at his calves and he is about 6' 2. Did a PA for his other band and had the same problem. Ended up that the PA was so loud folk were at the point of leaving leaving (including myself). Funnily enough, recently he has turned down. Went to see his band at the same venue with another bloke doing the PA using subs. Volume wise everything was fine. He also had put his setup as far back in the room as possible. I must say that the rig used that night sounded very tame, mellow and wooly in comparison the the Fr800's. All the live sound seemed to have been removed. I'm not very keen on subs for that very reason. I know the guy who did the PA and he is very laid back and it showed with the sound he produced. Fair play to him for getting the onstage sound level down on the night. Many have tried and failed! Hopefully, next time we gig together the problem may be solved!
  19. My lovely old Selmer Treble n Bass 50. Loud as a loud thing.
  20. My JV57 Precision is very shallow front to back. Standard nut width I believe but the depth certainly makes it feel slimmer. Westone Thunder 3 or T2 MK 2 have a nice slim neck too.
  21. Just tried Reaper on the Mac A1181 and after a bit of meddling it worked fine. Recorded 16 tracks simultaneously then exported the stems and imported them into Logic X and all is well. Hopefully, problem solved!
  22. Nice one, I'd forgotten about Reaper! That's another one to try. Thanks!
  23. Similar to the one in the link. Bought this a wile back and used it as a bag rather than a trolley but it's a bit too big for my needs really. The extending handle has come off and may well be in the land of missing socks but I'll have a look. It has wear but is still useful. I wouldn't use it as a speaker case unless the cab was lightweight (BF etc). Due to the retail price, postage is not really an option so, free to anyone who can collect from Blackburn, BB22SH. https://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_speaker_trolly.htm
